Like that they're chosen by the espers, which would make sense since the espers are obviously more than just a gameplay mechanic in this one.

Actually, my understanding is that the fal'Cie are a different race than humans, because it seems that Cocoon was made by a fal'Cie FOR humans. You also get the idea they have some sort of magic, given that they're considered somehow superior and have the ability to turn humans in l'Cie, which is both a blessing and a curse in that they gain magic and the ability to summon an Eidolon and that if they die before accomplishing their Focus (aka the task for which they were turned int l'Cie), they turn into horrible undead monsters, respectively. The party members are all human before that change occurs.
Also, there are fal'Cie outside of Cocoon, which may or may not be the ones who turn the party into l'Cie. Either that, or the party is transformed inside Cocoon to try to stop the human ruling party from messing stuff up. Things really aren't very clear in that regard at this point.
Also, is glasses chick giving anyone else a heavy Nooj vibe? She really strikes me as being like Nooj from FFX-2 for some reason, and I don't know if it's body language, personality, or bearing.
Edit: Also, fuck their atrocious grammar! Seriously, I think whoever started naming stuff just wanted to make life miserable for people debating the game on the Internet with their lower-case-apostrophe-capitalized naming conventions. Or maybe they wanted people to have to slow down as they typed in hopes it would make them think more about what they were typing, but seriously, that is the worst, most awkward use of phonetic apostrophes I've ever dealt with and I hope they're happy with themselves!
