Are they worth millions of other lives though?
We not talking about my life.

What, pray tell, is the correct way? We're never going to get a perfect reform of this country's shitty health care system, best we can hope for are a series of stop-gap reforms until we hit something close.

And in another thread you remarked:

It's not a human right to health care...

Please refer to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to a line that I believe was added at the behest of the US.

* (2) Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born in or out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.

Things I notice about this commercial...

1. The overwhelming majority of the people in it are white, which seems more likely to prove the point than disprove it.

2. The quote they use says that the majority of the intensely demonstrated animosity towards Obama is due to him being black. I think this is largely true. They're trying to play it off like all liberals think all conservatives are racists.

3. It's just... arghfrgleblergh.

Anyone else want to make fun of it?

This commercial is exactly what every racist says when you call them out on being racist so good job guys making a commercial that makes you look like a bunch of racists.

Harsher than I'd put it but anyone who isn't against universal health care because they're racist is against it because they're misogynist or whatever "ist" means "I hate poor people" (*waits for someone to inform him that letting people die preventable deaths for not having enough money isn't really hate-hating somebody).

Donomni 12-07-2009 02:58 PM

Fuck, this ain't a parody.

Seriously, I mean, wow.

I just hope my grandpa never sees this commercial, or I'll never hear the end of it.

Fifthfiend 12-07-2009 03:08 PM

PS Darkchocobo I also care about your children which is why I think you shouldn't be forced to choose between bankrupcy and letting them die if they contract an expensive-to-treat disease and I'm happy to contribute to that goal with my own tax dollars, sorry you hate other people's kids so much that you're not willing to do the same.

Funka Genocide 12-07-2009 03:27 PM

yeah like I don't personally care about your children, I mean I've never met them (and most kids suck.) but in the general sense I feel it's worth a few extra tax dollars to help them out with government funded health care because even though little kids mostly suck, they do eventually grow up and, I don't know maybe 25% of them stop sucking?

That's not an accurate statistic fyi.

also, there's that whole "don't have kids if you can't afford them blah blah blah" whatever, point is that if you're against public funded health care because it's "moeny out your pocket and food out your children's mouths" then I think you're missing the point.

Personally I pay like 150 bucks a month for my health insurance, just me. A perfectly healthy 25 year old male. Now if you're a single income family with say 2 kids and a non-working adult (which is also not the smartest decision in this economy) I can only guess at how outrageous insurance costs must be for the lot of them. So do you honestly think they're going to raise your taxes the 500 or so dollars you pay for insurance to fund this?

really?

Basically, it's a plan for low income families that most low income families despise because they are racist and ignorant.

you know what?

fuck 'em. I can afford insurance.

Seriously, the government all ready takes a huge soaking wet bite out of my ass every two weeks, am I really going to miss a few extra bucks to maybe save underpriviliged children from dying of neglect? No, no I am not. But the whole issue is so ass-backwards and the sheer ignorance of the populace is such that I seriously don't give a shit anymore. Pass the bill or don't, it doesn't really concern me and honestly, if people can't be arsed to do what's in the ebst interest of their children I'm not going to waste my breath trying to convince them to do so.

Fifth you know being A-Okay with somebody starving to death or dying of scurvy or whatever doesn't mean you Hate hate them it just means that they're poor and deserve to die. If they didn't deserve to die they would have made themselves not poor before it became an issue, wouldn't they? Hmm, yes. Quid Quo Pro.

heh, scurvy.

I find it all the more tragic that the people fighting public health care are priviliged Americans that stand to benefit from it. Like ok, refugees in rural Africa might be super ignorant and racist, but I mean fuck they live in rural Africa. There's some leeway there.

People from America do not have that same leeway. We all went to high school (even if it is pretty shitty comparatively speaking you CAN learn enough to not be an idiot there.) and we all have cable TV and eat big macs. We're the prince's of the universe and still people are going to argue against free health care?

Yeah, I kind of do hate them, to be honest.
