That's exactly why not all my games are on Steam and, I'll get the DRM free version over the Steam one any day (unless the Steam version is on a huge sale).

This goes the other way too as, Steam replaces some games' DRM (securom and others) with the DRM that comes with Steam.

Gotta say I can't even really think of Steam as DRM since I'd be running the bloody thing even if I didn't have to. The friends list and screenshot sharing systemare Fuckin' A+.

Yeah, Steam better is than most DRM methods, the only issue I see in it as DRM is what just happened to Snake (which also happened once to me). Also, the inability to have more than one instance of a game running so, you cannot have LAN parties. Other than that, I don't really mind steam.

I'm playing recettear, and i go adventuring, and I get all this sweet loot, and then I get back to my shop and... I don't have any of it, I have none of the fucking loot I collected, what the fuck is going on here.

Not entirely sure what is going on.
I may be wrong, but I think you have two inventories? One for adventuring and one for the store.
You need to transfer those between if you want to sell the loot.

It's been a while since I last played, though, so I could be entirely wrong.
But if the above doesn't "fix" it, I'm entirely stumped myself.

If by "get back to my shop" you mean "kill Louis horribly" then that might be the answer. You only get the loot if you exit through a door every 5 levels. If not then vOv
