I was going to say that I don't know how I know to get the spell to work, it's just something I've always known... Well, I know how I know: I played these games with my brothers and friends, and they knew. I don't know how they knew... And that's the case with many older games, most of the secrets from Final Fantasy 6 I knew; before I ever played the game once I knew how to do all of Sabin's blitzes. It's almost like I was born with the knowledge...

So yeah, it's a valid criticism, and one of many for the game.

It's kind of like the battle with Giygas in EB, you're supposed to pray in the final battle, but there's like three sections and praying in the one doesn't do anything other than what prayer normally does, and if you're in the third section but aren't sure if there's a fourth section you might keep whacking away forever and not know you're supposed to pray, and technically I don't think there's EVER a hint you're supposed to pray in-game, I was just told that was what you're supposed to do eventually.

Not to mention that Giygas takes that opportunity to kick your ass so if you didn't pay attention to what Pokey said and forgot about Pray altogether ("Why not call your mommy, Ness? Say, 'mommy, daddy, I'm so frightened! I think I'm gonna wet my pants!' I know you have telepathy or something, so just try and call for help, you pathetically weak heroes of so-called justice!") you pretty much end up getting spanked around for a few rounds.

I just figured it out because I ran out of pp and started praying in a last ditch effort to get heals.

Luckily I survived long enough to pull it off. Not sure how long the battle went for before that. Way too long ago to remember.

I do, however, also remember an hour's long battle with the mana beast. I think I was using the spear or some shit and hadn't bothered getting my sword skill up with anyone on my first play through.

Secret of Mana was the world's champion of requiring you to find some fucking switch somewhere that was indistinguishable from anything else in the dungeon.

I have a love/hate thing with Secret of Mana mainly because of that one mini-arc with the witch. The dungeon, the tiger, and those fucking chairs.

Wait, that third dungeon where the game said "Now we're getting into the SERIOUS BUSINESS zone?"
