I doubt it. There isn't enough shown for that to be the reason behind naming them that.

More then likely. They were named X and Y for the sake of sounding cool.

Probably but that's only if a third version is made. Which is unlikely seeing as Nintendo decided to drop the whole 3rd version thing altogether in favor of mid gen sequals.

Well it seems that the adopted names so far are Xander (Boy) and Yander (Girl); XX is girl and XY is boy, right?

So at least /vg/ and tumblr isn't subscribing to the whole Chromosomes arguement in the names.
