Yeah, the absence of either a save feature or, at the very least, a password system like NEARLY EVERY OTHER MEGA MAN GAME EVER MADE is kind of a deal breaker. I got all the way up to Vega before having to throw in the towel, and the fact that I have to fight my way all the way back to him if I attempt it again (since I have no intention of leaving the game running forever until I do) makes me a little unwilling to even bother playing again.
The fanwank tribute stuff like the music, sprites, sound effects, and attacks is wonderfully well done, but I feel like certain flaws in the core gameplay mechanics just drag the enjoyment down too much. The game is programmed to recognize only the left analog stick on a gamepad with no way to set it to the D-pad, so navigating menus is an exercise in frustration. This is especially compounded on the skill select menu, where the E-tank is hard enough to select as it is without the analog stick sending you all over the damn place. I was able to get around this on my fightpad, since you can flip a switch to make the D-Pad on it be recognized as the left stick, but the SF4 fightpad is an uncomfortable, oversized mess of a controller anyway, so I just ended up having to suffer through with the stock 360 controller.
Still, the chiptune SF character theme remixes were worth the download. Hopefully, they'll show up on mp3 somewhere down the road.
