One Piece: Great Pirate Age RP: Sign-ups
For those of you that dont know the setting
None of this is needed for game play. Its just information on the setting, major faction, and lexicon. Pretty much everything not there will either be information thats different in my game and you shouldn't know, like who the seven warlords are, or stuff you should already know, pirate ships have cannons, and an admiral is a high ranking navy officer. Technology I intentionally did not mention. Mostly its what you expect. Wooden ships, flint-lock guns, swords, ect. But there are alot of strange examples so not gonna try and classify it. RP Story You and your crew have just crossed reverse mountain and entered the Grand Line from the East Blue with your Logpose set for the first island. Your ship is designed for a crew of 10, with a single main mast and three cannons, one in the front and one on each side. With plenty of food to last several weeks and a million beri worth of treasure. However every member of your crew has so far avoided the Navy's attention and thus no one currently has a bounty placed on them. There are no immediate concerns, but danger is ever present on the Grand Line. Devil Fruit I want to clearify the pros and cons of them. General: Devil Fruit, are just that, fruit, all unique and one of a kind and all with the same universal weakness, water. Those that have eaten it can never swim, sinking like a rock. If more then 50% of their body is in water they lose the strength to even stand let alone use their powers. Rain does not have this effect but the resulting standing water will. Sea Prism Stone has simular effect. Always negating the power and enough can leave them just as weak and helpless. Names of fruits always have a single repeated word as their name. Gum-Gum, Sand-Sand, Mutt-Mutt, ect The three main types. Logia: rarest and considered the most powerful of the three types. Granting the user the ability to turn into, generate, and manipulate a given element. Greatest strength is their nigh-invulnerability. However it does have limits. They suffer from elements natural limits, wet sand can be hit, becoming lightning not helping against a rubber fist, lava burning fire, ect. Also unless trained (meaning no starting character) it is a conscious effect to negate damage and doesn't help against suprise attacks. Final drawback is logia users are used to being indestructable, if their powers are negated they have poor defensive skills and aren't too good at taking a hit. Zoan: Allows the user to become an animal, or a hybrid version. Known for granting a great boost to physical power, speed, and stamina and any additional advantages of that animal. Such as claws, or wings. Those of carnivous animals are known to have the side effect increased blood-lust when outside of their natural form. A user can also become awakened, going beyond animals usual physical limits (not for starting characters) Ancient: A rare sud-type, animals that are now extinct. Mythical: even rarer the logia, allows transformation into creatures of legend. Paramecia: The most common type and a total crapshoot. Can get anything from turning body parts to wheels to being able to create quakes in space itself. Pretty much if any power you can think of that doesn't fall into the other two. Note: power level will remain about the same even if you do not have these powers. While they will have an edge make no mistake, I will exploit their weaknesses. Character Sheet Name: Age: Appearance: Position: captain, navigator, doctor, ect Weapons: if any Devil Fruit: if any, include type, power, and name Techniques: List any attacks your character has developed Bio: Finally you guys will need a name for your pirate group, and if you want, your ship. If you guys cant decide we'll just see what people start calling you. Oh and I will run this RP as long as I get atleast three players. Ten will be the limit however |
Do we all need to have a tragic backstory?
|
no, I mean Luffy's backstory wasn't all that tragic, Garps "toughening up" excluded. But wont it make things so much more interesting if you do ;)
|
I dunno, man, the comic's in flashback mode right now and it's about Luffy; I'm expecting some tragedy.
But that's beside the point, and I won't give in to my temptation to turn this thread into a One Piece discussion thread. Gotta think up a dude instead. |
One of the major aspect of the One Piece story is exploration (politics and such aside). Will there be significant benefit from building a character around that? (sailing a ship is gonna require navational skills, and a good deal of islands are uncivilized and sometimes crazy with their own rules of phsyics) Or will it more about combat and such?
Also, you went into a fair bit of detail about devil fruit users, but what about the ones who don't use it, like merfolks, Haki (type of chi) users, and technology users like the sniper or the android? Aside from super-powered melee types like sword and martial art style (although that falls somewhat under Haki) |
I'd say its about adventuring. So yes, a good focus on exploration, and I'd like to try RPing non-combat threats like storms. Still expect alot of combat though as this is a hostile world. There will be non-combat stuff to do. I mean someone needs to figure out the treasure map.
Covered stuff like haki in the interest thread, which was basically, yes, but you should work towards them not start with them. Haki is a high level technique after all. Technology would be listed under weapons, and will grant it as much freedom as devil fruits. You want to be a cyborg with a ham cannon, go for it. Merfolk, I'm iffy on even allowing as PCs. Though if you REALLY want to, when you get down to it they are basically fish mobel zoan users, just always in hybrid and able to swim. |
Cool. I'll do that then. I wasn't planning on making it like that Merfolk Warlord of the Seven Seas who could grab and shape water itself. More a melee type.
Name: Cyrano Zakath Age: 29 Appearance: Human-ish but with blue skin, an obvious upturned nose, and rows of sharp teeth. Position: Combatant. During ship travel, he also keeps an eye out on the devil fruit users to save them if they fall overboard. Weapons: Large SeaPrism stone sword. Simple, practical, but powerful and sharp. Serated on one edge, which has combat purpose and practical utility (use like a saw to cut trees finely to repair ship). Heavy for just about anyone who doesn't possess immensely brute strength like he does. Negates the bodily defenses of devil fruit users and robs them of their power if he maintain its contact on them. The sword has a fairly simple but strong band attached to the hilt to help prevent dropping it or getting disarmed. Devil Fruit: No actual Devil Fruit Power. Fishmen trait gives him Shark Zoan-like ability that can't be turned off ever, whether intentionally or sea or seastone. Ability to swim and fight with incredible ease both on land and underwater. Can leap high high from the ocean water upon the crew's ship while carrying heavy loads (Such as the bodies of fellow crew-members who fall off during a heavy storm). Can breathe underwater practically indefinately. Good sense of smell, especially for blood, as per the shark trait. Technique: Shark Charge: Simple but effective. A straight line dash with immense speed but somewhat limited ability to turn more than 45 degrees and only about once or twice either way although he can jump forward without losing momentum. His sword can be held so that his blade slices through just about anything it would impact and continue slicing through. When this move is used in the water, Cyrano barely have to use his legs, so he has near perfect mobility and freedom in his approach (although he still have trouble suddenly going backward), as well as the option to ascend or dive. His speed is improved and his power not reduced when fighting in the water. The technique is scarier if the blade is held so as to pierce when approaching such speed. Cyrano Cylone: A combination of offense and defence. Cyrano jump spins with his sword and practically bounces back and forth between hits as he blungeons and slices repeatably in the air for somewhat weaker but repeated damage, except for if Cyrano extends the final overhead swing for high damage. The spinning movement thus protects him from attacks that come from above, front, below or behind (weak to side attacks) Typically most useful when facing something very large size or when dealing with multiple foes and when in a clustered location where there are lots of things to bounce off of. When used in or above the water, his spin doesn't require any bouncing, but is utterly controlled like a mobile buzzsaw which can be either vertical or horzonital. In addition, water starts spinning in a fairly strong current which hampers with those who attempt to swim or fight underwater. While somewhat weaker than his other attacks, the numberous hits, the stunning of the heavy sword, and the almost unpredictable and fast paced movement makes this a lifesaver in the appropriate situation. Rough example here starting at 0:32 seconds. Backstory: Cyrano is a soul of practical realistic endeavor. In the sea where pirates fight for power, wealth and fame... in the lands where the Navy fight for power, law and order at all cost... in a world where politics run rampants, beasts and freaks of nature enforce dominion over civilians... it was fool hardy to think the world gives its gifts equally. Power rewards those who possess power. Those with power shape their destiny and the destiny of others. Those with the gift of physical strength save themselves from battle. Those with the gift of charm and tongue save themselves from malipulation. Those with the gift of wealth hold influence and sway. None is without use and none is supreme above all. Power is power regardless of its forms. The strong believe in their strength, and because they are strong, they believe that everything that had brought them to that point without delay is right. To the unshamingly hard-hearted, cruelty and savagery went hand in hand with superiority and power. To those who think themselves virtuous, friendship and courage was where a person gained true strength. Cyrano has seen them both. He rejects neither one, for strength is not exclusive to any moral viewpoint. For as long as one believes that their strength will not fail them, his willpower and viewpoint will be tempered with it. Conviction is a side-effect of reward and power. Cyrano is a man of simple hedonism. He enjoys rich food, luxurious beds, lavish entertainment. When he has money, he enjoys himself greatly. When his supply runs low, he works again until he has more to spare. A simple life, void of any great destiny or idealism. But for now, he's not left wanting. To the kind, he may be generous in turn. To the haughty, he breaks their bones. Cyrano the practical. Cyrano the pleasure-seeker. Cyrano the powerful. Cyrano is a mercenary and a bodyguard. In the employ of simple unknown communities away from the marines, he guards against wild beasts and pirate attacks. In the employ of simple pirates themselves, he accompany them and protect those who fall overboard, including devil fruit users. For the even more ruthless of those pirates, he would swim toward opposing pirate ships, and threathen to burst holes in their hulls unless they surrender. Those employers who would attempt to cheat them of his reward would be wise to know that at a moment notice, he could sink the very ship he's riding on when nowhere in sight of civilization, leave the crew to drown, the power users unable to survive admist the power of the sea, while he picks the ship of its treasures and swims his way to wherever he may wish. A simple but very effective system. Now, he is with a new crew with a goal for greater things. A chance for new pleasures, more rewards in a land far from the simple life. The fishman, Cyrano, holds power in his own hands. |
Come on, let me be a fishman. You'll like him, he's a pearlfish. Scrawny little guy like that, he should fit in with a human crew. Besides, being born ten times stronger than humans shouldn't make much of a difference on the Grand Line.
Also, you know merfolk and fishmen are different, right? One has a tail, the other is a humanoid fish. Edit: Me and Mern get to be buddies again, yay! Another Edit: Also, calling medic. I got dibs. |
Question, what if someone wanted to play as a Marine?
Though I'm interested more in the sharpshooter position of a pirate ship, I'd love to see what would happen from other's view. Also, technology? Best to describe it as steampunk meets modern. |
ah see this was my concern that people would jump on the merfolk bandwagon. But I'll roll with it.
past has shown me having multiple groups for this kind of thing is a bad idea so no marines |
Ooh, cool. I haven't watched the show in ages, but I know enough about the setting and storyline to know what's going on. Is that okay? I'd like to give this a shot, but if my lack of detailed knowledge on the show will be a setback, I don't want to get everybody's way.
|
dont worry about it. This is One Piece setting, not One Piece RP. all the big names and events will either not be here or be changed. Plus all of thats way down the road. you are starting off fresh into the Grand Line which should mostly be unknown to your characters anyways
|
I read all of One Piece manga thus far, so if there is any questions, I'm pretty willing to help with the details anyhow.
Well, we (hopefully) got 2 merfolks (good in case our devil fruit users fall overboard or get caught in seastone), and a potential sharpshooter. We could actually start getting some devil fruit users now without a problem. ^^ Logia or Parmencia types would be great since merfolks are somewhat like Zoan users. |
Putting my hat in, will figure out character later.
|
I wonder how we're going to determine who is the captain. :3
It's not exactly something one just "trains in, get expertise and get hired for" Of course, the easy way is to have an extra NPC who is nigh useless, but decides he/she/it is the captain because the ship is their ship. Cue a death of said NPC shortly after (like maybe after the first town or battle or heck, a mutiny!) and we can work out who is the captain based on the personality we see thus far. :3 BTW: (I doubt my character would be any good as a captain.) EDIT: Good to see you too, Phil. ^^ EDIT: Also, for those of you intending to be Devil Fruit Users, you can only have 1 power via eating a devil fruit. In the One Piece story, only one is possible and anyone who tries to eat a second fruit dies. |
Name: Carapi
Age: 20 Appearance: Carapi is tall and bony, with pale, translucent skin, making him look perpetually unwell. His long, black hair trails down his spine in a ponytail, interspersed with red beads. He usually wears a doctor's coat with karate pants and no shirt, which is kinda gross with his ribs showing. He wears a red bandanna tied around his left arm to show his affiliation to the Red Band Pirates. Position: Doctor and night Weapons: if any indeed. Devil Fruit: if any indeed Techniques: Pirate Smashing Sacred Fist: Butt Punch: Carapi delivers a devastating blow to the opponent's butt. A man can train his muscles to be hard as steel, but no man can train his butt. Pirate Smashing Sacred Fist: Butt Punch: Carapi slams his butt into the opponent, focusing his entire weight and strength into a single point. The point is his butt. Its sharing a name with another attack is completely unimportant. Pirate Smashing Sacred Fist: Soothing Poke: A move developed by Tock. Carapi relieves minor aches and pains by poking pressure points. It has nothing to do with butts. Tock uses it much better. Bio: Silly, tragic backstory God, that's a long story for a joke only I'll get. Anyway, these days, Carapi is a more or less competent doctor who also happens to know a secret martial art. He's a nightowl and often has to be woken up when needed. He likes round things and his favorite food is sea cucumbers. |
Name: Dorian Soro
Age: 23 Appearance: A tall, Muscular man with a dark tan and shoulder-length wavy brown hair. He wears a red bandanna over his head, a short-sleeved black shirt, and brown pants. He keeps a pistol and a cutlass tucked into his belt most of the time, and a Grappling hook tied around his waist. He also keeps a large messenger bag with him with the pirate-crew's mark bearing a cross symbol on it's forehead. Position: Doctor Weapons: Cutlass, Flintlock Pistol, He also keeps a grappling hook on him at all times, though it's mostly a tool to reel himself back in if he strays too far from the ship in the air. Devil Fruit: Paramecia: Power: Grants the ability to instantly make himself as light as air and back again. Name: Float-Float Fruit Bio: Dorian is a master of medicinal herbs and healing from his old island. A young hoodlum envied the popularity he garnered from helping the locals and tricked him into eating the Devil Fruit by telling him it would grant him magical healing abilities. After delivering one HELL of an asshuping to said trickster, he set off to the Grand Line. Dorian beleives that he can find an herb to cure devil fruit users of their affliction on the Grand Line, due to it being the home of the devil fruit. edit: Oooooh, now we've got a problem! edit: Just saw you had dibs, I will conede the medic role and instead I will take CAPTAIN! |
Name:Kallow D. Vind
Age: 20 Appearance: A short, thin and lithe young man with short messy black hair and nearly black brown eyes. He is more often than not caught in his typical wear for working in the kitchen, preferring to always be ready to prepare the next meal for the crew. Though the chef outfit does look a little odd with the rapier and flintlock at his sides, but he cannot bring himself to part with them. Position: Cook Weapons: Steel rapier. Single shot flintlock pistol. The two are mostly there for the if all else fails, and he is more likely to be using his devil fruit. Devil Fruit: Paramecia. Breathe-breathe fruit. The fruit allows Vind to take in and release incredibly large breaths, releasing them as ear shattering yells or forceful gusts of wind. Though that is about as far as he has explored it thus far. Techniques:
After all what better gift can you get for a boy than superhuman abilities? The fruit was told by him to taste like all the terrible things in the world concentrated into one place. Hence his job was to find some way to mask that horribly disgusting taste from the pampered young master's delicate tongue. What no one had told him was sampling it would render the massive purchase entirely worthless and instead leave behind just one terribly bad tasting fruit. So when he tested his best attempt to mask it(which while valiant was a complete failure) it turned out he was the one to get the abilities. When after a few days they didn't cultivate in the boy they immediately blamed Vind, and he was locked up and prepared to be executed. During the final moments, still completely unaware of what he did wrong and having no idea of how to manifest his abilities he was put in front of a firing squad. He was laughing in a wreck, grinning like a fool, breathing in deep to try to get his mind under control, and when he let it out... He blew the squad away. Not keen to look a gift horse in the mouth he took off running at that very moment, taking a loose rapier from the young lord and a flintlock off one of his would be executors in case the gave chase. He got away, but was slandered by the family into a criminal of much greater caliber than he actually was. Desperate to find a way as far from them as possible, and finding not many options for an outlaw cook, piracy was basically the only way. So he joined the crew and sails on. Nowadays a great deal more aware of the madness he brought upon himself. |
Name: Gunther
Age: 22 Appearance: Tall (6'5), skinny (damn near emaciated), dark hair (cut short), brown eyes (kinda dead), red bandana (covers the mouth) Wears no shirt (doesn't believe in them. They are demon clothes) and wears blue jean shorts mostly. Great with a long range rifle that he keeps oiled and maintained along with his back up weapon, Mr. Winner. Mr Winner doesn't like to talk about himself but once Gunther gets serious about a fight, he pulls out his second weapon to rain death from above. Blowtorch goggles are used for better aim, with the edges darkened. Tools are kept in a giant bag that never leaves his side. You mess with that bag prepare for a beating. Position: Sharpshooter Weapons: Custom Rifle and Mr. Winner. Toolbag carries a hammer, a frying pan, and a blowtorch on most occasions. Devil Fruit:None Bio - Having grown up in North Blue, Gunther was a boy that loved to practice his aiming skills. Eventually at 16 he learned how to shoot so effectively, that he could kill big game for his poor family that lived the peaceful life. That changed when a pirate came and pillaged the town. Having ransacked everything, his father was the first to die by the hands of the new pirate. Bonnet the Red didn't know what hit her that day, but with the help of a few friends, he ousted the pirate. His skills were pretty sharp so eventually he joined a pirate crew and decided to sail and see the world. Having started in North Blue with one set of pirates, everything went downhill when he accidentally hit the captain with a grapefruit, knocking him out. He soon changed ships with some guys from an Eastern Sea who happened to be going to the Grand line instead of fiddling around with mountain bandits. His main mission is to challenge his abilities in the open sea and get stronger. Also, he needs to get over his two left feet. Techniques - Mr. Winner's Special Sundae - Mr Winner likes to win. That's acceptable. Mr. Winner does NOT like to lose. This is unacceptable. When this comes out, whatever Gunther has decided to shoot, it flies back 3 feet and is knocked down with a jalapeno bean to the mouth, followed with a cherry to add insult to injury. Gunther may like his jalapenos but... They're a little hot for most people. It's almost like a bomb in their mouth. Accuracy - Currently able to hit a target half the length of a football field. Working to improve his aim to two lengths, but misjudges the wind. Blowtorch Bananas - As a part of the Red Bandana crew, Gunther takes pride in being the best sharpshooter. He's even made a few bets on if he can make a shot burst into flames and keep it accurate. With this technique, he throws up his Blowtorch, aims a shot and fires, igniting the shot and possibly his target with the speed. Personality - Gunther is so scared of combat, that he chooses his guns to fight for him. He makes huge boasts at distance and is a clumsy git that can't fight close up to save his life. The only time he'll run to someone is when he knows that they're safe to be around. He doesn't wear a shirt because it was actually burned off of him by an older brother who had a Heat-Heat Devil Fruit. Since then, Gunther has never eaten a fruit unless it's something he KNOWS can't hurt him. Impetuous, Gunther can be a great guy on your side, but definitely can rub people the wrong way with his child like attitude sometimes. Superstition runs deep in his family and if you tell him something, he'll usually believe it without question. The only time that he's serious is when a fight breaks out. Then it's time for him to kick ass and take names. And he forgets names quickly. |
Just out of curiousity...
This IS a pirate RP. When people think of pirates... they tend to think of treasure. :3 Swag, loot, bling, cash, and that sort of stuff. Would we be required to keep count of stuff like food for journey, repairs, and weapon ammo and new equipments using whatever cash we get? (And of course trying to prevent thieves from taking our stuff) |
Menarker you are good except, why would someone with such an affinity to help devil fruit users without question have a weapon specifically designed to kill them?
Phil, some details on your background seem, eh to me, but it amused me so I'll pass it anyways. Prem! profile still says doctor and just so we are clear, someone punches you into the water you still sink like a hammer unless you can stop yourself before hitting the water. but approved Approved, is Overcast Jagos how do heavily tilted googles help aiming? also a problem of how you, someone from north blue, met up with these east blue pirates PS, added an "attack" section to profiles for you to liste your techniques. which I'll probably change to techniques as it sounds cooler PPS still plenty of room people, keep them coming. Still lots of positions open |

1: Turn off his powers, and die instantly, 2: Keep them on and fall Sloooooooowly to his doom. Name: Dorian Soro Age: 23 Appearance: A tall, Musclar man with medium-brown skin and shoulder-length wavy brown hair. He wears a red bandanna over his head, angled to cover his missing eye. a short-sleeved black shirt, and brown pants. He keeps a pistol and a cutlass tucked into his belt most of the time, and a Grappling hook tied around his waist. Position: Captain Weapons: Cutlass, Flintlock Pistol, He also keeps a grappling hook on him at all times, though it's mostly a tool to reel himself back in if he strays too far from the ship in the air. Devil Fruit: Paramecia: Power: Grants the ability to instantly make himself as light as air and back again. Name: Float-Float Fruit Bio: Dorian was his villages "Golden Boy" a tough fighter, a kind soul, a hard worker and a fantastic swimmer. His brother Anderson on the other hand.... well, he was clever, but so was Dorian. Anderson was also an excellent con-man, so good, in fact, he was able to hustle a visiting pirate crew out of their recently acquired treasure. Part of this treasure was the Devil Fruit that would change Dorian's life. When Anderson returned home, he showed his brother all his new spoils. For whatever reason, Dorian was VERY interested in the Devil Fruit stored away in the chest. Anderson knew a sucker when he saw one, and hyped up the amazing powers bestowed by the fruit, although he had no idea WHAT the fruit actually did. Dorian gave Anderson almost his entire savings in exchange for the fruit and promptly wolfed it down, then ran off to test it. What a shame it bestowed such meager abilties. Dorian stormed home and beat the ever-loving HELL out of his big bro. Anderson sprung into action and attacked Dorian, filled with sibling-rivalry rage, accidentally taking the boy's eye in the process. Anderson was stunned a bit of anger was taken so far, and apologized from the bottom of his heart. Dorian wouldn't have it, and demanded retribution. He chased his brother through the streets, kicking and punching and wailing on him for all he was worth. The people of his small village looked on in horror as their shining star raged through town, his face contorted in anger and pain and beating his brother senseless. They ran him out of town, called him a rogue and a monster, and tended to Anderson's wounds. But the elder brother knew the score. He sought out his younger sibling on the edge of town and gave him everything he had, the pirate treasure and Anderson's savings. Now an outcast, Dorian put up the funds to have a fine pirate ship built, and set out to find a crew, He was going to show the world that he was still the best his town had to offer, and bring in an era of Noble Piracy. Thus did the Red-Band Pirates set sail! Personality: Dorian is very flashy in his ways, generally recquiring an audience for any major undertakings, he is also big on "proving himself" because of that, he gets in quite a bit of trouble. While he doesn't go around looking for it, he does view more things as "trouble" than your average person. Any thing viewed as a slight will be immediately seized upon, and if a heartfelt and sincere apology isn't convincingly given, then GOD help you. Dorian makes his money primarily through the plundering of people who have the grave misfortune of irking him, and treasure hunting. He's also very "Hands-on" in his leadership, running head first into any challenges he is faced with alongside his men. Techniques: Flying Feather: Activating his devil-fruit power, he levitates off the ground, points his pistol in one direction, fires, and goes flying off at top speed in the opposite direction. Flying Feather Flail Attaching his grapple hook to the handle of his cutlass, he swings the blade around him in a wide arc, hovering off the ground, the faster he does it, the more air he gets. Feather Flip Getting a running start, he flips into the air, making himself light just as he does, then instantly becoming normal just as he lands on his target. He clears a great distance during the jump. "Success is the Best Revenge!" |
His affinity to saving devil users just stems from the fact that he is a fishman and it gives him a competitive edge in getting hired as a mercenary. His "affinity" is due to CAPABILITY not desire.
Fact 1: Devil Fruit users are highly valuable members of any crew or army due to their power and their overall rarity. (The powers are one of a kind. You can never find another fruit of the exact same type. That fruit user would have to die and then the tree that sprout it will grow another one only when that previous user died, if my memory is correct. Thus there can never be another person at one time with the same capability that can be hired.) Fact 2: Devil Fruit users can't swim and they become useless in deep water. Fact 3: Typical humans may not have the strength to dive in sea water, reach the target and pull them back up INTO the boat with their railings high above the water itself, especially if the water is torrential or if they are in a fight and moving the ship a lot. If the crew in question is mostly devil fruit users, very few people can actually volunteer to help without getting in trouble too. Cyrano actually CAN do that, so it's a plus to his resume. Fact 4 (Which I neglected to mention in more detail): Cyrano doesn't care about devil fruit users either way. He operates like a mercenary. If they are on his side, his ability gives him a great chance to save something valuable for the crew (A plus for getting him hired). If a devil user is a foe though, he has the sword to protect himself or anyone else from them. So long story short, the two entirely different things. He could save ANYONE who falls off the boat, but because Devil Fruit Users are so valuable, anyone who is a strong good swimmer is worth more as a crewmember. He doesn't actually care either way about Devil Fruit users specifically. But given how dangerous they CAN be, having a weapon that can stop them is valuable both as a mercenary and for healthy self-interest. If a devil fruit user (or anyone else drowning) is on his side and in trouble, it's in his interest to help them if the situation allows it for the sake of payment. If a devil fruit user causes him trouble, he'll fight them without a worry. So really, he's not helping them without question, but more like he's doing any sort of lifesaving because he honors a contract and expects to do the job well so he'll be paid. Anyone who attacks him, however, faces his sword. Also helps that seastone removes the power of a Devil Fruit user, which is good for capturing if such a request is made instead of killing. (A bit harder, but at least he has a sporting chance.) Is that reasonable? |
I like that Prem yielded to my dibs. It is the power of dibs, you see. Plus, now we have a captain, so everything worked out for the better.
Ninja'd hard Edit: Also, Carapi commands very little mastery of Pirate Smashing Sacred Fist. Mostly, he just punches people in the butt. That is his special move, you see. As for pressure points, he could maybe cure a light headache. He's not going to make people pop or anything. That there's called room for growth. More useful explanatory Edit: Really, I just wanted to play a weird fishman who didn't know fishman karate. |

menarker, ok thats fine
Prem this one is good, and Phil being the ships doctor I hope you can handle more then a headach. Not that good of a physician if your healing abilities match that of tylenol |

I'll update his story with that info. |
A question. I only just noticed that you added a Technique section.
What degree of power you say is appropriate for techniques at this point? How many at most would you think? |
How are we going to do upgrades on certain positions?
Sharpshooter might be a smidge harder to do than say... Captain. |
Somebody's just hatin' cause they didn't get captain first!
|
You illin... I don't wanna be captain! We'd be the Sougeki pirates if I were!
Usopp OWNS YOU! |
Oh yeah, we need a name for our crew!
|
Red Band Pirates are tha ISH! Get with the program!
|
I'm totally adding a red bandanna around Carapi's arm. Also, he can cure a headache with pressure points. It's like acupuncture, only with fingers instead of needles. Of course he can cure everything else with bandages. Bandages fix everything.
Edit: Added some techniques. I think Oda would high-five me for my wit. |
you forgot the glue phil.
and jagos what do you mean upgrade position? I meant more like new techniques, weapons, ect with progress speaking of, typically I'd say like three should be good. Lets go full shonen "MEGATON PUNCH" style combat |
Ok, we have a fighter, captain, doctor, cook, and sniper. We need a navigator, but, more importantly, we need a musician! Music is the heart of the pirate soul! Maybe a ship wright, too, I dunno. Mauve, get on it.
Edit: Wait, Prems, who's first mate? Is it Gunther? |

well in that Case, this being our first major voyage WE SHALL SEEEEEEEE
edit: meaning that thing Phil Said Edit Edit: It's certanily not gonna be Cyrano, 'Cause he's not wearing his bandana! |
Ok, Aerozord, I edited techniques into my bio if you can take a look just to make sure they are suitable. I only selected two techniques at the moment, since he's just starting out, has more brute ability (power/speed and all that) than techniques, and I don't think I can justify him learning how to make a energy projectile (or a projectile of any kind) out of his sword (unless I got something like a super strong extendable rope for which he could throw his sword or swing it like an oversized rope dart and have it come back.)
Edit: I never said I rejected the crew name or the bandanna. At any rate, Cyrano doesn't think of the crew as his "nakama" at the moment, although he'll definately treat them well as long as they honor his share of the loot and not attempt to screw him over. A good ally for sure... but as a first mate...? Well, it's possible, but you might wanna think a little harder... But yeah, First Mate basically ensure that everyone obeys the captain and that no one causes mistrust or discension... which can be disasterous on a ship in the open sea. Everyone is forced to share the same cramped space, everyone has their duties to fulfill, and people attempting to shake that foundation could end up getting crew members or the entire ship destroyed/killed! Dorian: "As long as you ride on my ship or call yourself my crewmates, except for the express purpose of disguises, you'll wear this bandanna." Cyrano: "... Ok, ok. So be it." |
I am SO joking about the bandana thing, though truthfully there's always gonna be trust issues concernin mercenaries, all this considered, I'm gonna put more about Dorian's Captaining into his description once I hammer out his techniques.
|
if he doesn't view the crew as his nakama then that alone makes him poor first mate material.
Guys can always go with like, Crimson Bandana Pirates and have your flag be the usual skull and cross bones but with skull wearing a red bandana Old question I forgot to answer. I will not expect you to keep inventory, just a rough idea of how your supplies and money are going so you have to think about it. Occasionally you'll need to restock, though how you do this, actual piracy, purchasing them, hunting, whatever, is up to you. But it will be a good excuse to either do non-plot specific stuff in a town or make unscheduled stops at various islands. |

Either way, there are likely better choices to choose from for a first mate. ^^; Cyrano is foremost a fighter... and a crappy shipwright if he had to improvise (his sword can be used like a saw to make planks and boards for the ship although he has no idea how to actually build or repair a ship, aside from nailing boards over holes.) The only other thing is that he is an anti-devil fruit user specialist in a way due to his weapon and being able to fight in the water. |
Quote:
Or I could give him the most counter-intuitive job on the roster, just for the lulz…. Nah, we want our crew to survive. I’ll leave Shipwright for someone else. Aerozord, let me know if this idea is too weird. It’s something I thought up on the way home from work today, and it sounded better than my original plan. Character Sheet Name: Mikhail Spade Age: 25 Appearance: Mikhail is 5’10” and relatively muscular. His hair is short and reddish-brown, and generally refuses to do anything other than spike out at odd angles. His usual attire includes a blue t-shirt, black jacket and pants, leather gloves, and boots. He wears his standard-issue red bandana tied around his neck. He thinks it looks cool. It probably doesn’t. Position: Navigator Weapons: Owns a sword, but prefers using his fists. His gloves are reinforced on the knuckles for punchin’ stuff. Devil Fruit: Fortune-Fortune Fruit. Ever have a day when you feel like everything you do goes horribly wrong? Or a day when everything inexplicably works out for the better? Mikhail has those days. All the freaking time. The Fortune-Fortune fruit affects and intensifies the user’s luck, for good or bad. When his luck is good, good things happen; anything from finding 50 beri on the ground to successfully performing a risky jump from one mast of the ship to another. When his luck is bad, he’s a magnet for accidents and misfortune. When his luck is REALLY bad… well, let’s just say he ends up in the doctor’s office more often than he’d like. This isn’t just a problem Mikhail has to worry about-- Apparently a side-effect of the Fortune-Fortune fruit is that his luck is contagious. Usually people are only affected by Mik’s good or bad luck if he touches them—hence why he has the gloves. However, if his luck is especially strong, it can automatically affect everyone within a ten- to fifteen-foot radius of him. This can work for or against him—In a fight, his poor luck might rub off on his enemies. Alternately, his good luck might cause his crewmates to deal more damage or dodge more incoming attacks. Mikhail has no control over when or how his fortune changes; he just has to deal with it. Techniques: I’ll do this later. Bio: Mikhail joined the Marines at age 17. He was immensely disappointed to find that the job actually involved work. (He figured they all just walked around on patrol for a few hours and then kicked back at the pub for the rest of the day, since that’s all they seemed to do on his home island.) He soon came to hate his career, as well as his commanding officer. The sergeant treated Mik like he was just a lazy idiot, and it drove Mik crazy. It was a fairly accurate assessment, actually, but that didn’t mean he had to like it! So when the Sergeant sent Mik’s company to intercept a small-time smuggler and gave them strict orders to bring back every single item he had, Mik decided to be a smartass and keep some for himself instead. Being a bit of a coward, Mikhail ended up only pocketing a small, unmarked box that he figured no one would really miss. Later inspection revealed that it contained nothing more than a piece of fruit. That was disappointing: Mik went to all the trouble of sneaking stolen property past his sergeant and his entire team, and it turned out to be a part of the smuggler’s lunch. Mik ate it anyway, out of spite. Through a series of incidents over the next few days (and a near-death experience involving falling off a dock into the sea), Mik realized the contents of the box had been a Devil Fruit. At first he tried to keep the whole thing a secret, and for a while, it worked. He made a small fortune playing cards against other Marines, and though they suspected him of cheating, were unable to prove anything. But his luck inevitably changed for the worse, and in one fell swoop he was proclaimed a thief and a liar, and shortly after was dishonorably discharged from the Marines. Out of a job and shunned by everyone on his home island, Mikhail took to the seas, using what knowledge he gleaned from his time as a Marine to make a living as a pirate. On the plus side, he’s slightly less of a jerk than he used to be. Or so he says. |
Mauve, definitely not too strange for this story. though your devil fruit is abit tricky, you know you can have more control over it then you have. Like left hand bestows good-luck and your right grants bad. Even train it so its not automatic or indirect ways of granting it, duration, ect.
The power is fine for the setting, there are some that are outside the users control, but reading it I got the impression you were trying to balance it. Which isn't nessicary since you automatically get the usual devil fruit weaknesses. So if you want your character to have more control like I suggested before feel free to. Ok it seems we got a good number of people for the RP. I'll wait till later today to actually start it incase there are any more changes you guys would like or late entries. Let me repeat sign-ups are still open. Even when the RP starts, like the series, I will have no issue adding people mid-voyage. So they will stay open until we reach ten people |
Character Sheet
Name: Rugnar Rudolph Age: 26 Appearance: Rugnar is 6’0 and wirey. His hair is Brown and he wears Bandana over it covering most of it up. He has a Blue vest along with blue pants. Other then that there is nothing remarkable about him. Position: Grunt/Theif Weapons: Sabre and Dagger. Fights 2 handed Sabre in one hand and dagger in the other. Devil Fruit: Paramecia - Glue-Glue Fruit. This allows the person to create and manipulate Glue from the palm of his hands, and is immune to sticky like substances/abilities himself. He can has the following techniques Cling Palms: Allows him to cling to things, such as walls and such to climb or weapons and objects Sticky Bombs: Can create balls of glue that he would be able to throw at enemies, having them explode and covering them in glue. Glue Bullets: Can form small wads of harden Glue and fire them at the enemies as if they were pistols. Bio: Rugnar was an average kid with an average life, but had an appetite for treasure. He was always trying to find treasure in the forests, or even steal treasure from others. He was always getting in trouble for this, but usually nothing serious happened as he was just a kid after all. But things changed as he got older, a new rich Fop had moved into town to start a business. Rugnar figured it’d be a great idea to see what he could get from the man’s house while he was out. During his rummaging he noticed a chest that when unlocked had a fruit in it, this seemed odd to him so he snuck away with the fruit while locking the chest. Taking it out of town to ponder why a fruit would be in a chest he got hungry and said screw it all and scarfed the fruit down. Well, that certainly changed everything for him. He could now create glue from his palms and allow him to use it as he felt lile. This gave him a great opportunity of thieving and stealing. For the next 2 years he hid his powers well, while going about and moving quickly to pilfer and taking things in his ever lust for treasure. Well, just so happened that the rich man had been paying attention to the boy as he had his suspicions about who ate his fruit. He finally caught Rugnar in the act one day and rallied the town around him to catch the foolish boy. Rugnar realized his problems and quickly ran away from the town before a mob could form, and he kept running, going from town to town leaving as he got spotted stealing, but never caught as he used his abilities to slow down his pursues. Eventually he heard about position on a Pirate ship and figured that it’d be a great way to get even more treasure! Thus he went off to sign up to become a scurvy pirate hunting for treasure. |
I'm honestly suprised that no one wants a logia character. They are some of the most powerful characters in the manga and always a foe to be reckoned with.
|
I did want one, I was going to go with either Ice or Fire but I thought that would be a bit much. Since they seem fairly powerful and destructive.
|
I thought about it, Mern, but then I was like, "Hey, _mike, what's a cool fish?" and he was like "Pearl fish live inside sea cucumber butts," and I was like "Yes."
Plus, I couldn't think up an interesting "element" that wasn't done in the comic. I considered pudding. |
I just wanted a guy who got hoodwinked into taking a crappy power
|
Dude, your power has a chance to be real awesome. I mean, can you imagine if you could cause other things to float too, not just yourself? The ship could levitate over obstacles, foes you fight would be levitating off the floor, mostly unable to move since they got nothing to push their feet against. Fun stuff. :3
Practically a reverse gravity ability. |

Krog your power is, lacking. Its approved if you want it but it does nothing that, in one piece, physical training cant duplicate.
and I figured Phil's reason for not going with Logia is same for most people. They even covered things people wouldnt normally consider elements like sand and smoke. More suprised no one tried the ancient or mythical zoan types. I will of course need to think of some logia types, because, well kind of have to. Just for giggles, guys if no one takes a logia, play your characters so they have no idea what one is. I know that can be hard, but be more fun if we watch them impotently attack one Quote:
|
I didn't want a logia character because their abilities are boring. Why have something simple, predictable, and with the added bonus of basic immortality when you can have something awkward, freakish, and ultimately a puzzle you have to solve to make useful.
I stared at just about all the fruit to try to make sure I don't have something they already had. Now to add appearance and some techniques(which will grow as time goes on if I'm lucky.) Also may add musician to the mix, if only so that he can sing their praises in concert level volume. |

Alright, Changed my abilities and Devil fruit to something, interesting? Weird? It could be entertaining! |
"His body is made of _____."
"His body produces _____." "His body can change _____ into _____." These are the rubrics by which you come up with an interesting Devil Fruit power. |
haha, he's a glue man, I like it. though remove a technique or two and save them for abit later in the story krog
|
Okay! Will do!
Thanks phil, that makes sense! Rugnar's Body Produces Glue! |

Edit: Though that DOES give me ideas. Anyway, posting it here, and editing it into the main profile: Personality: Dorian is very flashy in his ways, generally recquiring an audience for any major undertakings, he is also big on "proving himself" because of that, he gets in quite a bit of trouble. |
Prem, Krog, both looking good, approved
menarker after giving it alot of thought I decided to disallow your sword being sea prism stone, being able to completely negate devil fruit based defences is too much for a starting character. well was hoping Mauve would come on so I could see if she wanted to make any changes, but guess it would be rather minor, so I'll start working on the RP itself and have it up soon. and, up |
I'm here, I might make a few minor changes in a few hours, but nothing major. I'm at work right now.
|
I suppose I can get that sword as an upgrade or so later.
Anyhow... Quote:
I think you might have meant "we're nothing if not rough and ready to tussle... blah blah blah." |
your arguing about grammer... with a pirate?
|
... I guess that is a silly notion. But I rather we look competent in the eyes of the NPCS and foes instead of being laughed at because the leader accidently describe his crew members as scaredy cats.
|
|
If given permission you can go ahead and say he let out the brain melting screech of doom, no need to wait for me to type it out.
|
I'm sorry, Aerozord, I'm not used to your GMing style, but that transition from conversation to combat came right out of nowhere to me, especially since my character was supposably waiting for orders from the captain, otherwise, he would have made some action before they got close (like throwing himself in the water to cut their rudders). You added in your post OOC that you assumed that no one had a problem if they got too close as long as they don't get too close while two of the characters were in the middle of discussing EXACTLY that they DIDN'T want them too close. (Cyrano and Vind)
Can I assume that my character already made moves to be underwater before they got close? Thought it would take a few posts more since quick conversations tends to take seconds, and while the clock IS ticking, I'm certain the ships aren't THAT fast if they were specks on the horizon. |
I wanted them to get close!
|
judging from initial post the captain seemed unlikely to take premptive actions and the following posts indicated the others did not intend to go against those orders. Thus I went with the assumption they'd allow them to get close. After all only way to find out if they were friendly is to let them get close enough to talk.
Also it still isn't technically combat after I posted, merely a threat to engage in it |
I guess it's too much to hope that they are so inexperienced with Fishmen that Cyrano can just scream like a sissy, jump off the other side of the boat like a coward, swim under the crew's ship without causing alarm before attacking? :3:
EDIT: Then again, we could deal with the situation right there and then in a way. Wind attack on one ship, glue bomb the shooters with their backs or guns to the floor on another ship, and Cyrano pinball slicing the others on another ship. |
I dunno, Vind suggested a boarding action. You know ropes, broadside to broadside forced connection, planks, swords, ect. Along with sabotage. He wanted to have a hand up on the other ships, he wanted to be of proper Pirate status and not care if they are friendly or not. He wanted to be the one on top, but instead he is now hoping he can scream his way into the upper hand for the whole crew.
This action was a brick you tossed at us Az, but I just caught the brick and moved on as best I could. Because that is what happened. |
Sorry guys. Work is suddenly super busy. I'm still here, I just might take a little while to post.
|
Well, I figured if it's to late to smack the Rudders down,Putting the wheel out of commission might help!
|
Prem, your character's flighty ability combined with being a rough-handed pirate (pointed a gun at his own crew member!) made me think of a combination of Peter Pan and Hook. :3:
Aerozord, I'm wondering how all 50 of the enemy pirates could be swarming our ship. 1: My character smashed the floor of one of the ships, so they are all practically trapped on the second floor of that ship they were standing on with Cyrano who is in the process of cleaving them. 2: Rugnar supposably trapped quite a few of them by the power of the explosive glue bomb. 3: At the same time, Rugnar supposably shot the 3rd ship's steering wheel while it was not in position to dock, so now they got no way to use boarding planks. So those guys couldn't board our ship unless they got some other way to get on. 4: Our sharpshooter and captain shot a couple of guys already. 5: You even typed "left and right they fell". I would figure that their numbers would be fewer! Anyhow, I'll be gone for quite a few hours, work and all. |
other ways to get on the ship, like swinging across, and I dont mean all at once, your ship isn't that big. I mean they keep coming. I'm opening things up for you guys to really let loose and show off what you can do
|
Ok, that part I understand, but what about their numbers? When you introduce the threat, their total seemed to be 50 men between the 3 ships. Now that we shot them down, pinned them down with glue and otherwise bust the ship, the number that was boarded is still 50 men as if no one actually died or actually got interfered with.
Not to mention I'm still wondering how the ones in the ship I'm on managed to board, since the top floor is wrecked and thus no place for them to stand/board on. It's like I turned it into a cage match. I hardly believe they ALL got grappling hooks, which ALL attach to the ship and they all get away when they were all knocked off balance. |
