The blood of the gods runs through you! Well, one god anyways.

So I found myself with a lot of free time. And ever since the new DF update, our LP of it sorta... withered and died, to be honest. (Boy howdy, the things I touch tend to do that.) And to offset the pokemon LP's that we seem to have created a mass hydra of (And to nurse my resent of POS' Milotic) I decided to do something I was good at.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...20LP/Intro.png

Then I realized I never shared my love of this game with you all.

Made back when windows 95 was cutting edge, (Which means it's been about, oh, 15 years. Probably.) this game is one of the ones I still remember. It was game of the year in '98, and its successor (Which I might do as well if you all don't make me hate the original) won a helluva lot of awards in '01. To date, it remains my favorite game.

Let's see if you all can change that, eh? Go on, pick a race...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%20LP/race.png

...character class...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...20LP/class.png

...and alignment you'd like to see me play as.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a.../alignment.png

Of note, humans cannot multi-class off the bat, whereas nothing else can be a paladin. And there are some alignments some people just can't be. As depicted, thieves cannot be lawful-good, (cause if they were, they'd turn themselves in).

I figure you lot got, oh, four, five days before I go with the majority and start rolling beneficial stats for our luckless character.

Shyria Dracnoir 06-16-2010 03:05 PM

Evil Gnome Druid. It doesn't matter if the other guy is bigger or stronger than you if he's COVERED IN BEES.

Flarecobra 06-16-2010 03:24 PM

Chaotic Evil Dwarf Fighter.

Loyal 06-16-2010 03:41 PM

CN Halfling Bard.

Actually, Shyria's idea sounds way better.

Seconding this.

Vauron 06-16-2010 06:48 PM

Stupid Evil Dwarf Ranger

Solid Snake 06-16-2010 06:59 PM

We'll go Evil Gnome Druid.
Can I request lawful evil gnome druid, just as a twist, though? Or at least neutral. Chaotic seems so typical for a druid. Better to see a nature-wielding gnome who wants to establish his own "nature-lovin'" version of the Empire from Star Wars.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 06-16-2010 08:03 PM

I support this motion.

Mr.Bookworm 06-16-2010 10:58 PM

Druids can't be Evil.

The also can't be Good, Lawful, or Chaotic.

Soooooo, yeah.

Hmmm. I'll go with a Paladin (there's only one race and alignment choice here), because I can't remember the last time I saw an LP like this where the PC wasn't a tremendous cockmonger.stabilized!

Thadius 06-16-2010 11:12 PM

Dammit Bookworm you're not supposed to tell them now. Only when it's the majority opinion the character be a druid and it's too late to change.

And technically there are evil druids. It's just, yeah, we can't gen an evil druid to be the main character.

Corel 06-16-2010 11:28 PM

Would you even classify the Tick as LG?

Oh dear, it would like be watching The Tick running around the Forgotten Realms.

The only thing I ask you do it to insult the giant fat spider lady for being so fat. Anything else is good.

You know if you wanted to, you could make your own NPC's who could join the main party at later stages of the game if you want to introduce new characters.

Heck, make your own portraits and the like too!

Shyria Dracnoir 06-16-2010 11:42 PM

I'd suggest double checking what combos are and aren't possible and letting us know. Wouldn't want any more confusion if we need to re-pick.

Loyal 06-17-2010 12:08 AM

I thought the only limitation on druids is that they had to be Neutral-something or something-Neutral?

This is AD&D. Not third edition.

Thadius 06-17-2010 12:26 AM

You want info? You're gonna GET info!

For the record, in case it wasn't obvious, I love this game more than I hate you all.

Okay so first let's go by race!

Human
-Can be everything but a multi-class character. At least, at the start.

Elf
Can be:
-Fighter
-Cleric
-Mage. Can specialize in being a Diviner or an Enchanter.
-Thief.
-Multi-class character of a Fighter/Thief, Fighter/Mage, Mage/Thief, or if you really want to go for overkill, a Fighter/Mage/Thief.

Half-Elf
-Can be anything but a Paladin.
-Mage specialties are Conjurer, Diviner, Enchanter, and Transmuter.
-Multi-class characters are:
-Fighter/Thief
-Fighter/Cleric
-Mage/Thief
-Cleric/Mage
-Fighter/Druid
-Cleric/Ranger
-Fighter/Mage/Thief
-Fighter/Mage/Cleric

Gnomes
Can be:
-Fighter
-Cleric
-Thief
-A Mage, but only if they're Illusionists.
-Fighter/Thief
-Fighter/Cleric
-Fighter/Illusionist
-Cleric/Thief
-Cleric/Illusionist
-Illusionist/Thief

Halfling
Can be:
-Fighter
-Cleric
-Thief
-Fighter/Thief

Dwarves
Can be:
-Fighter
-Cleric
-Thief
-Fighter/Cleric
-Fighter/Thief

Now as for the classes themselves. Each one comes with some alignment restrictions. Or not.

Fighters - Can be whatever they damn well please.
Rangers - Can only be LG, NG, or CG.
Paladins - Only LG. *Sigh*
Clerics - Whatever they want to be.
Druids - Only ever TN.
Mages - Whatever they want to be, including all their various subsets.
Thieves - Can never be LG.
Bards - Can be NG, LN, TN, CN, and CE.

Now what happens when you mix and match classes? Well, the alignment restrictions from EVERY class apply. So don't be surprised when I tell you what's next...

Fighter/Thief - Can't be Lawful. Ever.
Fighter/Mage - Can be whatever you want it to be.
Mage/Thief - Can't be Lawful.
Fighter/Mage/Thief - Still can't be Lawful.
Fighter/Cleric - Can be any alignment.
Cleric/Mage -Can be any alignment.
Fighter/Druid - TN. Yeah you saw that coming.
Cleric/Ranger - LG, NG, or CG.
Fighter/Mage/Cleric - Anything.
Fighter/Illusionist - Anything.
Cleric/Illusionist - Anything.
Illusionist/Thief - Can't be Lawful.

Now if I know you lot you're going 'Wait mage subsets? Illusionists? The hell?' Or maybe not. Still, they're important things to know. Probably. The interface gives jack-all info about them during the selection screen, so guess what's going here?

Abjurer - Specializes in protective magics.
Conjurer - Specializes in creating things to protect himself.
Diviner - Specializes in detection magic.
Enchanter - Specializes in manipulating the minds of his opponents.
Illusionist - Specializes in confusing foes through use of a carnival hall of mirrors.
Invoker - Specializes in manipulating energy by stealing your cable.
Necromancer - Specializes in death magic, wearing black, and writing shitty poems/books.
Transmuter - Specializes in altering the very fabric of reality and feelings of omnipotence.

Each specialty class cannot learn one class of magic during the course of their adventure. Which one hates which escapes me at the moment. Though if you lot somehow pick the one that hates the spell Identify Item, I will hunt you all down in the dead of night.

Solid Snake 06-17-2010 12:33 AM

So we could be a Gnome Lawful Evil Fighter/Illusionist?

Because that sounds awfully ideal to me. Imagine a tiny opponent who'd kick your ass in a fistfight, then deceive you into thinking there are twenty of him (or deceive you into thinking a hot chick is nearby.)

All in the process of building the next new Babylonian style slave-operated Empire. (Is it possible to enslave our enemies in this game? Because I want this guy to enslave everyone. Better yet, can gnomes be female?)

Yrcrazypa 06-17-2010 01:56 AM

I have a Fighter/Mage/Thief in my Icewind Dale playthrough. He is the deadliest character in my party. Seriously, his strength managed to be 18/91 or so.

greed 06-17-2010 02:10 AM

Human paladin. For Bookie's reasons, RPG LPs are almost always neutral or evil mages and thief types, a goody goody paladin would be different. Plus in 2 Inquisitors are just fun. Plus playing as human/elf/half elf gives you the ability to do the romance sidequests in 2 and more sidequests is always good for an LP.

Oh BTW how you running this LP? Just OOC commentary and let the game do the dialogue, or you going to add the character's internal monologue or you actually gonna make some dialogue of your own?

Actually I know how to make you hate this. Everyone vote for him to play a girl so we can vote for him to romance Anomen when we get to Baldur's Gate 2.

Thadius 06-17-2010 02:23 AM

First of all every secret I can get will be gotten. Some will be easy, others will be a challenge, and others yet will be annoying beyond your wildest imagination, requiring me cheat just a little bit in order to succeed at the pixel hunt without waiting an hour.

Whatever race/class/alignment you all end up picking is how I'll write it, and believe me, I can write. Oh, I can write. Something tells me I'll be using the character portraits a whooooole lot during this thread. There will be OOC commentary for truly WTF moments or to explain things the character himself could not possibly understand, but we do. I'll try to stick to the game dialogue when applicable, and whenever we pick up actually interesting books/scrolls, I'll transcribe them as much as needed. :crying: My poor fingers...

One thing I've learned during my little revisit on another file is that you should not expect me to progress along the main quest quickly. Progressing quickly along the main quest leads to fiery death. No matter the character class, no matter the character race, fiery death is yours if you rush in. Being evil in general means doing things the 'wrong' way and that leads to a fiery death. In fact the noble sidequest is the only way we're going to grow to a state where we can kick any amount of ass at all without dying fiery death. The more you make me kill myself, the more I will grow to hate you all, and the greater chance that I'll NOT do Baldur's Gate 2.

Choose wisely.

Geminex 06-17-2010 03:56 AM

So if we're evil, we're going to have to be intelligent, self-controlled evil?
Bah. Boring. I was hoping to go for a mage whose only agenda is to burn everything in sight. But perhaps sophisticated evil works too...

Vauron 06-17-2010 08:08 AM

Right, so Stupid Evil, and most likely Chaotic Stupid, wont work then. Stupid Good Half-Elf Ranger than.

Osterbaum 06-17-2010 08:19 AM

CN Human Mage.

Terex4 06-17-2010 08:21 AM

LN Dwarf Fighter/Cleric

Naqel 06-17-2010 09:10 AM

Necromancer. I don't care which of the limited selection of available races it'll be. Count that as a vote towards a female character in case there'll be a draw.

DFM 06-17-2010 12:00 PM

Lawful Evil Fighter/Illusionist and put all your points in charisma because that's the most important stat.

Flarecobra 06-17-2010 09:19 PM

...Suddonly I'm reminded of a certain character from Order of the Stick...

Ravashak 06-18-2010 01:46 AM

Pretty sure that if you look long enough, you can find every combination possible somewhere

Corel 06-18-2010 04:43 AM

Oh, I suddenly remembered that you can summon a ridiculous amount of skeletons in BG1. Was quite a pain when navigating small corridors.

I shall add my vote to Lawful Good Human Necromancer, Female.

Yrcrazypa 06-18-2010 07:14 AM

Oh yes, summoning spells are definitely powerful in BG1. I beat the final boss by casting summon monster 2 once, and summon monster 1 twice. Or whatever that summoning spell was called. I made my own party and had two wizards. The beginning was crazy hard, but once my wizards could actually cast more than 4 spells between them, they were a force to be reckoned with.

Grimpond 06-18-2010 01:57 PM

I second Lawful Good Human Necromancer, Female.

Funka Genocide 06-18-2010 02:03 PM

Chaotic Good Male Halfling Fighter.

Become the cannon ball.

Thadius 06-18-2010 05:55 PM

Okay so the consensus seems to be that of a Lawful Good Human Female Necromancer. Unless there is a sudden, dramatic shift in the next few days, I'll roll with that and start rolling some stats for our character.

...Shoot. Um, I could use a name. The person that posts the most appealing name will end up with it being chosen.

Overcast 06-18-2010 06:23 PM

Kamia Snyders
Emilisa Hollows
Talia Ders
Eliah Amraphel

let me go onnnn, but seriously currently my brain is running low. Trying to keep on the setting and so most of my typical are running from me.

The traditional "indecipherable lengthy name intended to reflect she's from a fantasy world unlike our own" shtick runs old fast. Especially when they start throwing around the apostrophes like they're candy. Better to use a standard name and make the character's personality the focal point of innovation.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 06-18-2010 07:13 PM

Kalie Thuzad!

I hate myself for invoking rule 63, but the idea of a necromancer calling herself Kalie makes me giglle.

Failing that, Blossom Sugarplum!

Overcast 06-18-2010 07:36 PM

I'll be honest the reason I made so many names is because they barely matter. Even in reality I usually end up summing people by their impression and completely forget their names.

Flarecobra 06-18-2010 08:27 PM

Tila Tequila.

Mary Worth is also good. :D

RobinStarwing 06-18-2010 08:45 PM

Lina Inverse ^_^****

Hey, Necromancers are feared...might as well have a reason for people to run when they see her...as well as jokes involving certain things (if you know Slayers, you know what I speak of).

Just inputting my thoughts.

Grimpond 06-18-2010 09:16 PM

Mary Worth is a good one.

Great Cartoonist 06-19-2010 06:51 PM

Now, I don't know about the original Baldur's Gate, but in the sequel, you could exploit the multiplayer system to have a single-player game with up to 6 user-defined characters in the party (sorta like in Icewind Dale).
Would make for some interesting inter-party banter if that were to be done here.

Also, people really love those dumb good brutes, don't they?

Thadius 06-19-2010 06:58 PM

You all asked for her, so here she is...

Presenting the wonderful Mary Worth in all her pre-adventure glory!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a.../MaryWorth.png

It actually didn't take me all that long to get those stats, surprisingly. Of course, the downside of being a female with 18 charisma will soon kick me in the teeth, I'm sure. Anyway, time for a plot-dump.

And now we get a good look at our- wait a tic, is she wearing PINK?!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png
Hi everyone!

No. Nonono. It's bad enough you're wearing pink, but you leave that fourth wall ALONE.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Too late!

(More to come later. I'm melting right now and I've got a headache, but once it's cooled off and my medication kicks in, Candlekeep shouldn't take all that long.)

Shyria Dracnoir 06-19-2010 08:25 PM

It looks like her game sprite went a got a hair dye job as well as a clothes one.

RobinStarwing 06-19-2010 09:02 PM

SEE! She should of been named Lina Inverse! Lina's sorcerer name is Lina The Pink! =P Kidding but Mary Worth does well it seems. ^_^

Flarecobra 06-19-2010 09:15 PM

Let's get a quest before the good ones are taken!

Thadius 06-19-2010 10:47 PM

Sorry, 'crapping in the street' was already taken.

Okay, look, you're going to have to get back behind that wall.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png It's a little late for that.

Argh. Fine, at least get in that inn.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/005.png

Hey that's Winthrop! Go get a sling and a full compliment of bullets off him, whydon'tcha?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Why?

Because while I respect your Magic Missile, you can only cast it once. Regular missiles will be slightly more numerous for the time being.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/006.png

Better. Hey, who's that chap in the corner?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/007.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Some wandering mage by the name of Firebeard or somesuch.

Well go talk to him. Might have something for you to do.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/008.png

Whaddya know, busywork for you! 's a matter of fact, you go take a jog around the place and get some odd jobs from people.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Why, what are you going to do?

I've got a splitting headache at the moment. You're not helping it, to be honest. I'm going to figure out what you did to the fourth wall and fix it if I can.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Aww, that's no fun!

Shaddup and jog.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/009.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Sure thing!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/013.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Wait, so her missing book is here and the cow hasn't eaten it yet?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/016.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Um, isn't that why you have cats around?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/017.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Oh geeze, not another one. Hey, what happened to the first guy, anyways?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/021.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Well something tells me that this bed set apart from the others, or rather, the chest in front of it has Hull's things in it.

That'd be logic.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Hey, you're back!

Yup, and you're not dead. I thought for sure you were going to get some excitement by now. Maybe I could start anew with a thief or someone with a few less morals. In fact, I'm pretty sure you were supposed to see some action by now...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Um...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/010.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/011.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/012.png

Yes, she actually stabbed a guy with her staff hard enough to cause a small fountain of blood...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/019.png

...twice. Both times were one-hit kills.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I don't know what you're talking about. It's been fairly boring for me so far.

Ah well. What's your to-do list look like anyways?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png First I have to get that scroll still. Then there's this lady who lost her book, a guy who found her book in a haystack by his cow, a guy who's hungover and needs his sword because he can't leave his post, and he kindly dropped a hint I'll be needing the antidote potion in the same location I find his sword in. There's also a building full of rats, but I'm pretty sure that's not my problem.

Wrong. Everything is your problem. We'll try to work in reverse order. Grab the sword and potion, then hustle over to the soldier.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/022.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Next?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/023.png

Get your behind over here and grab that book you talked about.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/024.png

Is that who I think it is? And if so, how did you trigger her?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Um...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/025.png

Are you kidding me? You went in the main grounds to get to the hay bale? Ugh. She has the most annoying voice...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Hey! Unlike you she's a lovable rogue!

Whatever. Be kind if you have to, but get rid of her.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/026.png

Asdfgh! You practically invited her along with you! This is gonna bite you in the ass, you know.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I fail to see how this could ever turn out to be a bad idea.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/027.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Um, why were you facing the wall...reading the scroll...of... I probably don't want to know, do I?

:knowledge: If I pay you a few gold, will you run along?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png YES.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/028.png

Finally. God, for someone with a wisdom of 18, you do take the most convoluted routes to get somewhere.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Clearly your wisdom is a scant three, otherwise you would know better than to argue with me.

Hey, just take the oddly-placed key item and take it to where it needs to be. While you're at it, return the scroll as well.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/029.png

Score! Money! Go sell that puppy!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Have you no heart? This is probably one of her most cherished possessions!

Not where money is concerned!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/030.png

FUCK. I forgot he was the one to do that.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Now what, O omnipotent one?

You want to play that game? Really? Okay, pick up a quarrel of bolts from ol' Windy there.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png But I cannot use-

NO ARGUING.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/031.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png But I already did-

Just talk to the deaf farmer again. He probably was fishing some wax out of his ears.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/032.png

See? Money and experience. Now head back to the bunkhouse.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Why do I need to-

NO QUESTIONS.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/033.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Huh.

See?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Okay, I'm slightly sorry I doubted you.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/034.png

Very nice. Take a look at that dagger, whydon'tcha?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/036.png

I'm not sure if it has to do with your charisma, your gender, or what. I don't think I got this dagger on my other playthroughs, but it's the first magic bit of equipment we've gotten so far.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Oooh, shiny dagger. I assume you want me to sell i-

Nah, keep a hold of it. But in the meantime you are forgetting something, aren't you?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/035.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Oh no. You can't be serious.

Get in there.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/037.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Okay, four-

Five. You can't see one right now, but he's there.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png SIX rats. This shouldn't be too hard.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/038.png

Whaddya know, it wasn't!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png One's still alive. Hold still.

Methinks there's something else you're forgetting. Isn't there a house of healing in the southeast corner?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/039.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Yeah? So?

Go charm them out of a potion. You'll be needing it, trust me. And it shouldn't be too hard.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/040.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Huh. Something tells me to be offended at how easily they gave this up to a pretty smile, but hey, free potion. Are you done running me around yet?

Yeah I think it's nearly time.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/043.png

Prepare to kiss your home good-bye.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Did you ever figure out what happened to that wall anyways?

Yeah I patched up what I could. Unfortunately you'll still be able to talk to me directly, but I doubt anyone else ever will be.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Fine by me.

Next time on Baldur's Gate: Death.

Grimpond 06-19-2010 10:56 PM

Oh man, looking good!

Yrcrazypa 06-19-2010 11:26 PM

Huh, figured I could skip the screenshots, given how many times I've played through the opening, but you showed me a few things I've always missed. Like the +1 dagger.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 06-20-2010 12:05 AM

Oh...oh god.

She looks likes Mauve.

Liking this so far, Thad!

greed 06-20-2010 04:16 AM

So you're doing this without Tutu or Trilogy? Huh. Man the walking speed alone would do my head in.

Anyway, liking it so far.

Osterbaum 06-20-2010 12:02 PM

She should've totally been named 'Menkat'. Props to anyone who knows/remembers what that means.

Thadius 06-20-2010 05:10 PM

Run, Mary, run!

Right, go talk to Gorion, get this thing over with.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Can do! Hey foster dad, what's all this about?

:knowledge: Are you done in your studies, my child? Have you said farewell to everyone, done your chores, and brushed your teeth?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Well, yes. But what does that have to-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/044.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Damn. He's not kidding is he?

Never does.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Dad, no!

Run.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png What? I can help, I can fight! I've killed rats before, he's just a big one in a suit that's compensa-

RUN GODDAMNIT!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/047.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/048.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I...I could have helped. I should have helped.

And then his sacrifice would have been in vain. At least this way you have a chance to live and avenge him.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I...suppose so.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/049.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png How did she follow? I thought the rules were very strict there.

Oh I know I complained before, but I cannot help but say she is a sight for sore eyes.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/050.png

See? Free thief!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Surely that's not the only reason you're glad to see her.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/051.png

Welcome to the real first area of the game. It's actually kinda easy here, with no real penalties if you decide to explore around. This also explains why I haven't cheated up a full map of the place yet, I can get it easy enough wandering around. First objective is to get to that area north of us and see what there is to see.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/052.png

Also, say hello to Imoen! With a max dexterity score and decent intelligence, constitution, and charisma, the only real downfall of having her around is she can't do any heavy lifting. Most people dual-class her into a mage\thief as soon as it's feasible.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/053.png

She comes with a magic stick that fires small bolts of death, a bottle of coffee, and a few more healing potions for the stockpile. Naturally we'll stick all of those on Mary. Imoen will be getting the magical skinning knife in case we get in melee combat.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/054.png

Imoen will also be standing in front of Mary to take the brunt of any attacks while the two of them get over here to loot the bodies of last night's events.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png But that's inhuman! One of those bodies is my foster father!

Who, might I remind you, died so that you could escape. It would be a shame if he was carrying vital information that detailed what the hell that was all about that you decided to skip out on because heaven forbid you disturb the dead, even though you're a necromancer and that's kinda your job.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/055.png
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/056.png
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/057.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Satisfied, monster?

Oh yes. Oh yes I am.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/058.png

This ring. This is the best ring. It fetches the best price in shops and I will be selling it first chance we get. For now let's tool around a bit.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/059.png

First, Imoen tells this guy off, and sadly we get no experience for it. Funnily enough, no matter what way you choose, he lives and you get no experience for it. I think it was meant just as a morality test.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/060.png

We run into some deceased gibberlings...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/061.png

Diseased gibberlings...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/062.png

And a wholly unhelpful messenger.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/063.png
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/064.png

This guy, at least, is sympathetic if not helpful. Hey, Mary, go check out the rest of the area. Might find something of worth.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Har-de-har. Fine.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/065.png

Fuck. A wolf. At our level it could easily wreck us. Well we have missile weapons and Imoen has that dagger. Maybe we can smite it before it reaches us.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/066.png

Shit. Okay still salvageable. Mary just needs to back off and Imoen needs to close with her dagger to distract it before-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Oh god! The teeth!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/067.png

SHIT. That has to be the most badass wolf I've ever encountered. It went on after this was taken and bit Imoen to death as well! Still, I have to do all that again? Ah well, reload and-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png What the hell just happened?!

Ah, you died. I just rewound time so that we could avoid that next time.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png ...To a wolf, right? Let me at him again, I dare you.

Mary, no what are you do-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/068.png

Mary I admire your fighting spirit but-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Imoen, go stand between me and him and stab his brains out.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Not a problem!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/069.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Teeth, ow. Don't suppose you could give me a potion after this?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Kill him first, potion later.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/070.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png HiiiiiiiYA! Potion please.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Sure thing!

If you're quite done with your little vendetta, Mary, you've an entire area to explore.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/071.png

FUCK. Bears are big and lumbering, and unlike most wild animals, aren't openly hostile at first. If you get too close, though, they go from big and cuddly to big and hungry. They can wreck our shit faster than wolves can, so we're going to steer well away from this one. And every other one as well until we're bigger and have a few more meatshields to hide behind. We might be able to kill it with magic missile, the wand, and liberal amounts of bullets, but Imoen would definitely be bear chow by then.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/072.png

Imoen dispatches another wolf and gets another potion for her troubles...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/074.png

And with that, the area is explored!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/073.png

Hey, Mary, go turn your charm on those guys. Might be able to get another potion off them.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png If you say so. You've been right so far.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/075.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Score!

Hey, that's my line!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/076.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Hmm. It would only be ri-

No. They're evil and you don't want them with you. That guy you're talking to is nearly your polar opposite for crying out loud.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Suddenly I am filled with an urge to not have you travel with me, my good man.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/077.png

Ah well. Hey Mary, go up the road a little bit and-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png No. I'll send Imoen, but I have something to attend to. Imoen, give me your knife for a minute. I'll give it right back later if you'll wait for me further up the road.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Sure thing, here you go.

Mary, what are you...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/078.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Kill me, will you? I'll show you what we do to wolves...

Mary, no! That is not the proper technique or particularly appealing!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/079.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I don't have quite enough yet...

I need a bucket! *Hurf*

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/080.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png This is remarkably warm and cozy! Imoen will be wanting her dagger back now, probably.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/081.png

Bonus time! Spot the hidden container and win a prize!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/082.png

If you said 'Halfway up the tree nearest to Mary,' then congratulations, you win your very own diamond on your own file!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/083.png

With that, let's get the hell out of here before Mary decides the bear would make a better coat.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/084.png

Ah, the map system, how I loathed it. In order to get to another area in BG1, you have to actually walk across the entire fucking world to your destination at least once. As you can see, I've already taken the liberty of putting High Hedge on our map, and we'll be there later. For now, we have to get to the inn, and than means the crossroads. I won't bother putting up a map screen for it, because it WILL punish me for nosing around, and it WILL kill me faster than the wolves or bears could.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/085.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/086.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png So wait, how did he know I was going to the inn to meet some friends?

Crazy old wizard don't have to explain. For now, run along that road. Screaming is optional.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/087.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Which fork?

The one you're currently on, now move it!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/088.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Ogre...mage?

Oh yes. And did I forget to mention there's an ogre around here? He will kill you faster than the bear could if you don't move it!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/089.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Made it!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...er%201/090.png

Welcome to the Friendly Arm Inn!

Next time on Baldur's Gate: The most annoying druid in the world, yes it's true, oh it's you...

RobinStarwing 06-20-2010 08:55 PM

I think I know who the old wandering mage was... It is a certain old mage from Shadowdale who just happens to be one of the most powerful Archmages in Faerun and is one of the servants to the Goddess of Magic.

Please DO NOT READ the spoiler section if you don't want anything ruined. Besides, it's just a theory. Playing it safe.

Shyria Dracnoir 06-21-2010 10:34 AM

I have a feeling Mary's going to make it a personal objective to hunt every down every fuzzy dangerous animal in the game and make clothes out of them.

Ah well, she is a Necromancer and even Lawful Good Characters can be weird and insane.

Shyria Dracnoir 06-22-2010 08:23 PM

Gotta move this LP up!

Trying to bump things up so Thad can get a whole new page started with ze next LP update.

Flarecobra 06-22-2010 09:28 PM

Yep. Or at least every wolf.

Be interesting if she meets a werewolf.

Thadius 06-22-2010 09:34 PM

*Evil giggle*

The best part of this LP is writing it.

Especially that far in advance.

That means every wolf killed is a victory for the Alliance.

Then again, who cares about either side as long as my beloved Kul Tiras is missing in action xP

Thadius 06-23-2010 08:08 PM

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png We made it! A good night's sleep, here we come!

Ahem. Run over to the east a bit will you? You'll like it, I assure you.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Oh fine, but it better be good.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/001-1.png

Now where is that...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/002-1.png

Bingo! Mary loot it!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Oh? What have we here?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/003-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Some sort of magical ring. I'll just cast Identify and-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/004-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png This is the best ring ever. I'm never taking it off.

Never said you had to.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/005-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Just around this corner, relaxation awaits!

Hold it.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png What?

There's a guy up there who WILL kill you or Imoen before he falls if you're not careful. Get over there by those trees, and wait for some guards to show up.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/006-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png This enough?

Yeah now send her up the stairs, and when the guy starts talking, tell her to come back a ways.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Imoen, you ready to be bait?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png So long as the one that springs the trap gets bitten, not me.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/007-1.png

And in a matter of seconds...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/008-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Hey that was mine! Stupid guards stealing my kills.

Normally this battle is a bit harder than it looks because he casts Mirror Image, and then for a few turns he takes no damage while his illusions slowly dissipate and he blasts you away with Magic Missile. However, somehow, via incredible luck and timing, Mary managed to get her own Magic Missile off that interrupted his Mirror Image from ever getting cast. Considering that both spells take half-a-round to complete, that's some damn fine luck.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/009-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png It, uh, appears that I'm wanted by the bounty hunter guild. Huh. That's less gold than I have on me. Frankly I'm offended.

He also had some minor spell scrolls that Mary decided to write to her book. Writing spells is more annoying than it sounds like because if you fail, the scroll is destroyed. And in some cases the scrolls for a particular spell are few and far between. I'm not sure if it's luck-based or skill-based, or which skill it might be based on, but it didn't take her too long, and that's what matters.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/010-1.png

Another bit of plot dumped on us...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/011-1.png

And this is the innkeeper of the Friendly Arm Inn. Also known as one of the most badass dwarves in the world. Along with the best fence in the world. He will take almost anything you have to sell.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Guess this means it's his lucky day then, cause we've got a few very shiny items for him.

Indeed. And if we live long enough, he'll be one of the richer dwarves in the world.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/012-1.png

This is where you find Jaheria and Khalid.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Considering they're the only armed and armored people here, I don't know how you couldn't find them.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/013-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Well?

I'm going to regret this. Several times. But yes, take them with you.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/014-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/015-1.png

Say hello to Jaheria. She's not really a cleric, but she'll do. Actually she's better in most ways because not only can she take a hit, she can give one.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/016-1.png

Also, say hello to her husband Khalid. He's rough, he's tough, he's not particularly bright, and he's uglier than he really should be. But hey, he's a meatshield.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/017-1.png

Jaheria comes with a potion of invisibility. Very handy. Imoen will be getting that.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/018-1.png

And Khalid comes with everything metal he could lay his hands on. Which means that for now...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/019-1.png

He'll be taking point. Jaheria stands behind him, and Imoen-

Wait where is Imoen going?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png She said she wanted to do some 'shopping' and that she'd be back soon.

A few minutes later...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Ah, there you are. How was it?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/020-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/021-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Met a few dwarves that had to-do lists for us.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I se- what are you holding?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/023-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png I can explain. See, there was this nobleman...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/022-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png And so you just took them? Ah well. I'll identify them in the morning.

Night passes and upon Mary's awakening...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/024-1.png
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/025-1.png
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/026-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I feel silly. Let us never talk of these things again. Maybe someone somewhere wants them.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Seconded.

Oy, pick up a copy of 'The history of the Fateful Coin' while you're here. You'll need it later.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Check. How else shall I clutter my inventory?

Eh, you're good for now. But you want to run to Nashkel. There's someone you should meet there.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png That's quite a ways away. How about we stop in Beregost first?

Agreed. Just go!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/027-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Oh hey, open house. Imoen?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png On it.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/028-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Okay, I'll tell my friends and we'll go snag your ring.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/029-1.png

Sure enough, north of the inn we find Hobgoblins. With Jaheria and Khalid at the front, they die in two, three rounds.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/030-1.png

This is Joia's Flamedance ring. There are many like it, but this one is her's. It also looks exactly like every other ring, so you should be careful if you're doing a mass-jewelery dump so that you don't sell it. What do you get for returning it?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/031-1.png

A warm fuzzy feeling. Onwards!

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/032-1.png

On the road to Beregost, we find a bandit. All bandits have bows and swords and can use both with ease. One on his own isn't a big deal, we just have the meatfighters close with him and whack him to death. If there had been two more, we would have had a problem.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/033-1.png

We also find a kobold and his friends.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/034-1.png

They die as quickly as you'd think. Even in large groups these guys aren't trouble. Much.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/035-1.png

Another worthless messenger later...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/036-1.png

Welcome to Beregost! If we can help it, we'll spend less waking time here than we did at Candlekeep. For now anyways.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I don't suppose you could find an inn for us?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/037-1.png

This looks like a reputable establishment.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/038-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png You utter ass. You're trying to get me killed.

No, I'm trying to get Jaheria wounded.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/039-1.png

One quick battle later, we find it was another bounty hunter and the bounty's gone up.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Still less than I have on me. They aren't serious yet, I don't think.

A quick stay overnight and we're ready to exit via the south gate.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/040-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...enportrait.png Hey, I hear chittering noises. Might be worthwhile.

NO. Spiders are a little too much right now.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Maybe another time.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/041-1.png

On the road south, we run into this guy. Half-man, half-ogre, he's not that much of a problem on his lonesome...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/042-1.png

...But when his friend comes along as well, it becomes interesting. Still, they both die and we keep rollin'.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/043-1.png

This man quickly sees the light of reason, and before we leave we decide to read the letter one of our friends left us.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/044-1.png

He may have been trustworthy but he wasn't very hardy.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/045-1.png

More hobgoblins. And while where there's one there's a pack...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/046-1.png

...All fall before us when we use superior tactics.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/047-1.png

After a pointless noble spouts gibberish at us...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/048-1.png

And a mysterious plot dump from nowhere have their way with us...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/049-1.png

Welcome to Nashkel! We're going to try to spend very little time here. Our real goal lies to the...

West. Yes, the west. But first we have to head along main str-

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/051-1.png

Damn guard. Okay now let's go down main st-

Friggin' mayor.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/054-1.png

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png I'm a woman! Stupid civic servant.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/055-1.png

Yes yes yes! We'll look at his stats in a minute. For now, send Jaheria over the bridge. We need a...distraction.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png Can do! Hey, Jaheria, go cross that bridge for no reason.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...iaPortrait.png I see no reason why not.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/056-1.png

That wasn't the reason...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/057-1.png

There we go. Meet Noober. The most annoying NPC ever. No really. I sent Jaheria to be pestered by him for a reason...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/058-1.png

Namely so that Imoen wouldn't be pestered while she looted this hollow dead tree. Anyways, now let's look at the new guy.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/059-1.png

Say hello to Minsc. Despite what it says there, he's not a ranger. No, he's the best meatshield ever. He's also the best pack mule ever. And he's about as intelligent as a brick. Wait, that's doing bricks a disservice. But how'd he get that armor class of 0, you may ask?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/061-1.png

He comes with literally nothing but his sword and his pet. So what's that he wearing?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/060-1.png

Only what Imoen looted from the tree. Oh, wait, you'd like to look at his pet? Sure.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/062-1.png

And if you try to take it?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/063-1.png

Nothing can properly capture the cute little squeaking noise, though. I could sit here for hours clicking on the little guy. Anyway, time for some rest. We'll need it.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/064-1.png

Bring it! We've got a meatshield!

Okay now something very odd happened during this fight. The assassin was a warrior cleric and she blasted Jaheria into a state of confusion. We killed her easy enough and looted the body, but Jaheria was still trippin'. So everyone else fled, and when Jaheria came to...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/065-1.png

Yeah we're not allowed back there anymore.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...iaPortrait.png I thought he was a kobold, I swear!

So we left for the wilds, hoping to find somewhere safe to make camp on our quest for the Gnoll stronghold.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/066-1.png

This guy disagreed with us, and was promptly killed. We're saving his pelt for later.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png It would make an excellent sash!

Random encounters are, you guessed it, random. I think every time you go from one area to another, a die is rolled behind the scenes, and if it lands on an unfavorable outcome, things like this happen. The further you go, the more die are rolled. We've actually been lucky to not get one until now.

Anyway with the horrible wolf of winter dead, we found a somewhat safe place to make camp.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/067-1.png
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/068-1.png
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/069-1.png

Doing so brought on a freaky dream sequence...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/070-1.png

And now Mary can cast a minor healing spell in half a round. Useful if not for the fact that she should never need to cast it in the first place.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...iaPortrait.png I knew I should have never answered your questions on magic theory, child.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png The power of the gods in the palm of my hands...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/071-1.png

The closer we got to the fort, the more Gnolls showed up...

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/072-1.png

And not all of them were hostile. (I find it utterly hilarious this guy is talking to MINSC about the woman in the fort. Like he doesn't already know.)

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/073-1.png

Welcome to Level 1 party hell. We're doing this quick and dirty, only killing a few things if we can't avoid it.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/074-1.png

We could have avoided this, but didn't. Why?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/075-1.png

Hell yes. With these on Mary's AC just went from 10 to 6. Plus she now has 4 max stats.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...thportrait.png More power! Ahahahahahem. Yes, these suit me well.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/076-1.png

Charging boldly on, we got to here and Imoen eventually went in first to determine if the fight would be hard.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/077-1.png

It wasn't. And now we've a full party. Of course, the real question is always, can we get out again?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/078-1.png

Say hello to Dynaheir. She's actually a worse mage than Mary is.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/079-1.png

She comes with nothing, not even a memorized spell. The question is, can we get her out of the fort and to the Friendly Arm Inn so that we can change that?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/080-1.png

Oh sure, since I'm doing it for an LP, my first run was flawless. Well the random encounters could always kill us, right?

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...%202/081-1.png

...I'm sorry, but that was just too improbable for me.

http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...e%20LP/Map.png

Okay people, here's our map as it stands. (I apologize for the black bar, I really do.) We could do a variety of things.

1) Go ogre-slaying for the guy who wants his belt back.
2) Go spider-slaying for the lady who wants her house back.
3) Explore an area that we haven't previously looted for all it's worth.
4) Main quest CLOSED UNTIL WE ARE HIGHER LEVEL.

What will it be?

Shyria Dracnoir 06-23-2010 08:56 PM

Go exploring. We ain't no ones' errand boys/girls/hamsters.

RobinStarwing 06-23-2010 09:24 PM

I say Spider-slaying. They aren't as bad as one thinks and besides, you team could use the gold and experience. Sooner out of Level 1, the better!

Oh and yeah, keep up the good work Mary! Make sure Minsc gets his daily dose of Justice-dealing.

Great Cartoonist 06-23-2010 09:34 PM

I like how in Baldur's Gate and its sequel you can easily get some very powerful items at early points in the game if you know where to look.

Also, Minsc is the best character in the series. Also, his racial enemy changes to vampires in the sequel for some reason. And his alignment gets changed to a more fitting Chaotic Good.

Also also, farm them Ankhegs for loot and experience!

Flarecobra 06-23-2010 10:13 PM

I vote 1.

Wigmund 06-23-2010 10:32 PM

The ogre has committed the sin of being a belt fetishist outside of a Final Fantasy game, it must die. Horribly.

Okay, I need to ask...

WHAT? *needs translation*

Loyal 06-23-2010 11:19 PM

Square-Enix's go-to guy for character designs has a tendency to put in a lot of zippers and belts in places that they have no place being. As such there's a bit of a memetic stigma regarding belts and zippers on a character's costume, particularly on this forum and doubly so when a new Squeenix game is announced.

Nobody said it was funny, but there's your translation.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 06-24-2010 12:27 AM

I vote we loot and pillage! For the glory of the miniature giant space hamster.
