Western RP Interest Thread

So back on the horse again after Watch Your Dreams and fairly inspired to try something a bit more flexible than the last thing. It is, as stated, a Western RP. It will start at about 1884 in California. I've yet to truly delve into what else I would like to do with this mentally so I figured I may as well see if anyone would like to come aboard.

Also just as a gauge of what sort of Western I should be cooking up I'd love to hear the kind of characters you would like to play.

A gunslinger/bounty hunter with a sense of honor and kindness despite a gruff exterior.

Has a penchant for shooting folks in the bojangles if he doesn't like what they're doing.

Ooh, cool, I'd be interested in a western-themed RP. Not sure what kind of character I'd play-- for me that would depend on the plot and what we're supposed to be accomplishing-- but I'm interested!

krogothwolf 06-21-2010 02:19 PM

Yeah, this seems to be pretty cool, colour me interested.

CABAL49 06-21-2010 03:13 PM

I'm in.

Alrighty so we have Senor Emascular which is leading me toward a lawful approach, or at the very least a paid approach(which differs from a money approach in that you are working for it). This is leading my brain closer to the railways and the still active gold rush. This is leading me to a request to regain lost riches that will drag you all around in a big way.

I'm feeling inspired. I'll give this a moment though to see if anyone else wants to join the posse.

I am intrigued. My character would likely be a very mercenary guy. Pragmatic almost to a fault. Probably have a money fetish.

I just got an image of a cowboy humping a pile of gold.

Bard The 5th LW 06-21-2010 04:57 PM

I imagine that visage has improved your day?

Overcast 06-21-2010 05:04 PM

It certainly did for me. Your character is now cursed as being the handsome bastard. Bask in it.

krogothwolf 06-21-2010 05:05 PM

It did for me to, I needed a good laugh!

Krylo 06-21-2010 05:07 PM

So who's gonna be the sheriff?

Overcast 06-21-2010 05:36 PM

If we so happen to get a hold of that fellow I feel almost inclined to curse your nut busting bounty hunter to a Civil War vet, of the rebel sort.

Note these curses are all in jest, just random firings off from my mind.

CABAL49 06-21-2010 05:52 PM

I think that if there were to be a rebel, it would be fitting that I would be he.

Overcast 06-21-2010 06:27 PM

I just hope you are in the right mindset. Remember that the Civil War has been done for about twenty years now, even if you stepped in at an unreasonably young age you are getting to be old now and have likely spent most of your time after the northern aggression just trying to find a life out in the frontier. Priorities shift as years pass by.

That's not overly true, I think Drummer Boys were about 10 and the youngest soldiers in the 13-15 range. I think I read somewhere the youngest soldier wounded was like 12 or something. So he would be old, but he'd be 32-35ish.

Overcast 06-21-2010 10:15 PM

Doesn't quite change my point, as you said he's still old and in the most extreme cases he spent more of his life a Westerner than a Southerner, which really pulls away from the character type I was thinking of.

Actually this draws on something I figure I should find out, how realistic do you guys want this to be?

krogothwolf 06-21-2010 10:16 PM

Yeah I suppose. I keep thinking 32's not that old, but for the time it sorta is.

mauve 06-21-2010 10:23 PM

I don't care too much about whether it's strong on realism/historical accuracy or not, as long as it's at least mostly believable.

Overcast 06-21-2010 10:35 PM

I certainly was aiming for about as good as I could get without having to take a trip to my local library. Though I was definitely going to stay modern in the language, I don't think I could make any situation serious when a character exclaims, "dag-nabbit." Out of a parody sense.

Yeah especially since the life expectancy was apparently 40. I would like to do some more research and get back to this.
