NPF Minecraft server

Nikose and I have one going if any of you would like to join us.

[Edit] Okay, having the black screen login error. Great.

Here's the direct browser link: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?se...f296ca8d725230

[Edit2] Other players can access the server, but neither me or Nikose can. The hell? I tried from the host computer with no success. It drops me to a black window and the console reads "You must log in!"

[Edit3] Restarted with name verification off so it stops kicking people. :P

Looks good for now, I think we just need to update our java software.

EMAIL ME AT WORLDOFBOBCRAFT@GMAIL.COM TO GET IP OF PAID SMP SERVER

VENTRILO SERVER ON npfminecraft.servegame.com

EVILNess 08-05-2010 01:47 AM

Oh yay! I've been trying to promote this game for two threads, glad to see some of you all have some taste and bought this wonderful, wonderful game.

EDIT: On closer inspection you guys are only rocking the creative. Man, the Survival is so much better. I was hoping I Had found some people to play with on the new server software who won't burn my house down and destroy anything I try to make cause they think it's funny.

Nikose Tyris 08-05-2010 09:03 AM

@EVILness

Noooooooo Bob and I bought the game. The SMP server should be up and running fine?

Did Bob do something stupid?

EDIT: Bob did something stupid and this explains everything that went wrong.

synkr0nized 08-05-2010 11:04 AM

Yes, I am being an ass.

He works well under strict supervision.

Also, people should try this out- he put up the free multiplayer version, and not the paid version, so it's open to everyone.

Loyal 08-05-2010 11:56 AM

His servers work well under strict supervision, Bob is another story entirely!

Precisely!

I'm in the multiplayer server now, come join me. Still in freemode till tonight. :)

shiney 08-05-2010 12:12 PM

Sounds like Bob manages servers like me!!

You know, alcohol-fueled furybox.

Bells 08-05-2010 12:54 PM

Well that's better than those Fury-fueled Alcoholboxes ...

i've been meaning to try this one out, just so i have a notion here... this is on 24/7 for now? When are you guys in it?

Nikose Tyris 08-05-2010 01:01 PM

Karesh is the only one on atm; I'm about to reskin my character and log back in. Everyone's welcome to join and try it out!

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 08-05-2010 02:24 PM

I've just added an undersea home for myself. It's nice.

EDIT; The Dark Tower is also mine. Melfice, your stairs are complete.

Nikose Tyris 08-05-2010 06:36 PM

...You guys purposely build as far away from my base as possible. :(

And what the hell, you guys, that water blocked the entrance for a reason.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 08-05-2010 06:45 PM

I don't even know what your stuff is Nik, or anyone elses for that matter. I've just been building my tower. I think might add some more rooms to it and put a wall around.

At least if people are spread out a bit we can utilize the space around us properly and nobodies going to be encroaching on anyone elses stuff.

Really we should have built it like NPF City; a physical representation of the forums, complete with subforums and our own private domains where we can wage civil war on our neighbours.

Bob The Mercenary 08-05-2010 08:39 PM

Yeah, my servers tend to implode, but if I keep this thing backed up relatively frequently we won't have near as much of a problem. The...um...other server we had set up needed about 1.5GB for a full backup, Minecraft only needs about 5MB.

I'm in right now, though I might do a quick reload at night to create a couple admins.

EVILNess 08-05-2010 08:47 PM

I'll probably get on, don't forget to say something when you bring up a SMP server.

Loyal 08-05-2010 09:29 PM

I made a bridge. I wanted to make an awesomeface.jpg above the NPF sign, but I'm a very clumsy scaffolder and didn't plan it right.

Bob The Mercenary 08-05-2010 09:59 PM

Our world thus far...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ry/minewoo.jpg

On the left is my humble abode with the chimney, to the right of that in the distance is a triforce someone made and in the center is...a castle. Someone made. I know Loyal and Pyros both have dwellings around but I'm not sure if they're underground or not. (I'm pretty sure I built my house on the roof of someone else's by accident) Mac and I are now currently at work on a system of roads connecting our houses.

Nikose Tyris 08-05-2010 10:31 PM

I built alone, on the far far end of the stone skyway that I built- most of the skybridges were me.

My lonely, lonely hut is on the far shore. a bridge crosses a great expanse to reach my solo abode.

I am underground.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 08-05-2010 11:06 PM

mauve 08-06-2010 01:21 AM

What on earth is this game and does it play well with Vista64?

Krylo 08-06-2010 01:30 AM

I'm on V64 and it worked fine for me when I logged into it for like 5 minutes the other night.

Then I dug a hole straight down, wound up in some sort of cavern system, and then destroyed everything and built walls around myself before logging out in boredom.

As for what it is... um... welp, you can dig holes and set blocks to build shit. Kinda lego-y I guess. I dunno.

krogothwolf 08-06-2010 01:31 AM

That Gundam does make a good landmark. Poor Gundam, it's an eye sore, an awesome eye sore, but an eye sore.

Time to play one of those trendy online games ^_^

Arcanum 08-06-2010 04:33 AM

I think it's the lure of a server where anything I create won't be destroyed within minutes by griefers that's pulling me back to this game. Thanks NPF! Also I built my floating house/observatory in the north-east section of the map, above the forest that was to the east of the gundam. Just don't bother to connect any skybridges to it. Anyone who wished to visit must climb the giant vine/beanstalk (muwahahaha).

Figured I'd add a small update to that shot:

My house!

I didn't add the flowers, but the exact location is like, right across from that mushroom house. Here's a glimpse of it inside:

I also added a couple of other stuff elsewhere, namely a small undeground tunnel involving floating blocks leading to giant yellow letters. but I'm too lazy to screenshot it at the moment. For future reference though, I'm ZJ_Higgins on there.

Marc v4.0 08-06-2010 05:37 AM

I would ask we show a little restraint in messing around too much with other peoples things. I logged on to find some annoying additions and alterations to my structures that I didn't really want to begin with.

Bells 08-06-2010 06:47 AM

if i've done this right (and i'm not sure i did) if you stay in fron of the Gundam and head straight ahead, right after the black tower you should see a Warbot Shaped house.

I did that.

me proud. =3

I still need to learn my way around the tools though, so let me know if i mess with any of you guys stuff.

Also... there is a in game chat? how do i use it?

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 08-06-2010 07:09 AM

Wow guys, you sure built a lot of stuff after I left last night. I'll have to do some exploring now.

Did somebody add a skybridge to my tower though? Cos if they did then that is coming down. I still need the space for more rooms.

Bob The Mercenary 08-06-2010 09:20 AM

Who would be in favor of either a Skype or Ventrilo server for this thing?

Also if anyone messes with my garden I swear to god...

Karrrrrrrrrrrresche 08-06-2010 09:53 AM

As a quick caveat; many of our esteemed builders have laid claim to land and constructed things already. Not only above ground, but below as well.
If you intend to build something of your own, please try to avoid building too close to someone else without their permission, and perhaps more importantly if you should break into their house and let loose lava or water all up in their shit, please attempt to fix it before you leave. or at least leave some marker for where the water came from so the builder can fix the problem properly.

That said I have two things that are open to renovation by anyone and everyone that wishes to. I'd ask that you not completely tear them down though as you can imagine quite a fair bit of work went into some of these things.
The first is of course Library Tower
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/4406/clipboard03.png

The interior of the upper tower is rather large, and also rather empty. Feel free to add additional stairs, floors, rooms, whatever you think of. But try to avoid destroying what's already there without asking someone first.
Also the stack of books that reaches from the skybox to the sublevels of the basement should really be left alone.
The basement itself is rather expansive, lots of tunnels and exits me and Nik built out of there when we found ourselves trapped.
Try to avoid destroying the sponges for now, since the damn place seems to have a big flooding problem what with everyone digging to and fro.
The second is harder to find; http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/8...ipboard04r.png

This lake as seen from the Skyway contains an underground bunker I built, there's practically nothing inside save for the entrance, exit, and tiling.
Note that the floor tiles represent the boundary between you and a lava filled world. So I'd suggest not breaking them open.

http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/2...ipboard05a.png
http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/8727/clipboard02.png

You can't see the entrance very well from here, but they've been marked pretty clearly. Just follow the path to the side of the house toward the lake, and two holes will be right in front of you.
One is dry, that's the entrance.
One is flooded, that's the exit.

Bob The Mercenary 08-06-2010 10:04 AM

As an addendum to that, anyone in the server right now is free to destroy my BOOBS sign to make additional space, I meant to do that last night.

And the server is now being backed up every half hour.

It's right beneath my house, isn't it? If it is, you'll be sorry, because that's where the scheduled dungeon is going to be. So, nyeh!

In any case, I would like to second the motion to keep your mitts off another's "property", unless that person gives permission to finish/expand/modify it.

Speaking of which: thank you, Hawk, for finishing that skywalk of mine.

Nikose Tyris 08-06-2010 12:31 PM

My original skyway has grown so much. I'm so happy. Marc, I believe I am the one who added the skyway to your construction, I'm sorry for not asking permission on that one.

Bob The Mercenary 08-06-2010 12:41 PM

I think we need a zoning board and property lines. And perhaps a mayor and other municipal positions.

By the way, have we even named this place yet?

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 08-06-2010 12:48 PM

I call it NPF Island!

Bells 08-06-2010 01:49 PM

Wigmund 08-06-2010 02:21 PM

To all with basements on the western side of the island:

Overzealous mining by workers of Castle Wigmund may have unleashed unholy amounts minor flooding in your basements.

Nah, it's closer to my own territory. That's all I'll say on the matter.

No problem. Originally I was going to carry straight on and then turn right and join it to where that hillside is, where the skywalk is lower down, but I thought a nifty spiral just looked better and went with that.

What do you think those giant walls are for??! Though not all of my stuff is inside the walls, I also have a tunnel linking to my sea dome. I also claim at least 2 tiles of water outside the walls, so I can have both interior and exterior moats.

Melfice 08-06-2010 03:13 PM

I'm... not sure where my expansions are going to take me.
If there are going to be expansions.

So, uh... can I claim anything ABOVE ground, around the area of the skyway I built(and Hawk finished)?

PyrosNine 08-06-2010 03:18 PM

Pyros' Minecraft Pro-tip:

Whenever you build tunnels or caves, dig 2 blocks deep in the ceiling, floor, or walls, and place a spongeblock (looks like cheese to me) there, and then cover it up with a block that matches the rest of the wall. This hides the spongeblock, allowing your caves and tunnels to look cool without sponges, and keeps griefers from just waltzing through and deleting all your spongeblocks.

If you make a habit of doing this for every new tunnel made, for every few feet of tunnel, then unless someone just rips the underground a new one, fills the rest of the world with water, then your creations should be fine. Even if someone rips the underground a new one, your tunnels should still be water proof to the point that repair is just a matter of walking through and sealing one or two holes and draining the water out of a few portals of water between dry spots.

Minecraft Fun tip: Watervators:
For those of us without developers tools, moving upwards is a difficult proposition, unless we're in water, or less pleasantly, lava. Scaling heights, especially from the lower cave levels, proves tricky and somewhat tedious, especially if we accidentally fall back down again, or set our spawn underground.

However, due to sponge blocks making it quite possible for water to defy gravity, a vertical shaft of water can be created that exits out into your dry, secret underwater base, making exit and entry a matter of floating upwards to the surface. For kudos, you should make a nearby second tunnel of normal atmosphere (air!) for fast downwards movement, making essentially, turbolifts: one down, one up.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 08-06-2010 03:23 PM

I could really use a water lift in the centre of my tower.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to try this out later today, how much space is still left on the island anyway?

krogothwolf 08-06-2010 04:01 PM

So yeah, all of today I've been getting "Failure to Connect to Server. Server Must be Down." It bites :(

Bells 08-06-2010 04:43 PM

quick tip for you explorers.

I have the Warbot house, that's the stuff i'm privately working on. However, i made a Public area.

Take the red tower and run to the giant Tree. Right after that you should see a small Ground fortification.

If you enter it, you will find underground:

to your left there is a quick tunnel towards open sea
to your left there is also a small gold room with a ventilation shaft
To your right you will find a underground house with 2 tunnels (long ones)
a underground tunnel that takes you right back to the red tower.
and a underground tunnel that leads to a lava bridge and a dead end.

back up and keeping to the right, you will go past a free room (pretty big and empty)
and a little further you will come out in the middle of forest, right next to a big red arrow.

This is all built right on the edge of the map, so it's like a Coastline fortress with Escape tunnels.

Now, i would like to ask you to not tear it down or close these paths (unless of course, the long tunnels get in the way of your own major buildings), but feel free to change it's look or add new areas. It's a free zone for y'all.

I am 3/4s done with my Fuck Off Wall Of Rainbows And Happiness™. Screenshots to come later.

In other news, Wigmund knows nothing of waterproofing. This is at least the second time someone has flooded his place.

Fifthfiend 08-06-2010 06:09 PM

Once you've built up, how the fuck do you build out?

Basically what I'm saying is I want a fucking skycastle.

Arcanum 08-06-2010 06:43 PM

You stand right on the edge of a block, and create another block on the side of the block you're standing on. My floating house started as just a pillar, which I then turned into a floor with the previously mentioned technique.

The Artist Formerly Known as Hawk 08-06-2010 06:45 PM

I think I'm mostly done with my castle now. It has 5 towers, various rooms including a library and bathroom, multiple balconies, a 4 wide wall around the outside and 2 moats. It still only has 2 bedrooms though.

There may be room for expansion in the corner towers for extra rooms if anyone can suggest any use for them. I'm also considering a glass sky tunnel connecting 2 or maybe all of them.

I would post screenshots, but you can all see it anyway.

Karrrrrrrrrrrresche 08-06-2010 06:50 PM

Just thought I'd mention a few things.

One; Hawk I know you love your towers and all but would you mind maybe shrinking down the one closest to me?

Second; http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/5305/clipboard01xu.png

krogothwolf 08-06-2010 07:17 PM

I have created a Super Mushroom House with a Large Basement! A Buster Blade and a Gundam.

Need to find space for the next project.

And guys, guys. A purple penis doesn't float with a Gundam, just so ya know.

Savage Thinking 08-06-2010 07:40 PM

I added windows to my small tunnel (that show off randomly made holes in the wall [one of which got flooded accidentally]) and decorations and all that. Along with the tunnel upgrade, I added two random small facilities behind my giant yellow letters, more floating blocks, and a really, really big tree.

Oh, and a random staircase thing that leads to nowhere specifically. Probably a trail I haven't made yet leading to the tree. Also, I think I stumbled upon someone's underground area, because as I was digging I came across red blocks that appeared to represent an entrance and a large hole with mushrooms. I ended up covering whatever I hole I had just to be safe.

Bob The Mercenary 08-06-2010 09:24 PM

Logged on and my basement, the tunnels, and their three passageways away from my house were all flooded. o_O I wonder who could have done that, Wigmund.

There was also a large orange structure outside my house which I promptly destroyed being as it was aesthetically, logistically, and logically insufficient. (aka why would anyone do that what the hell)

So I spent all day working on creating a glass ceiling for the sky, currently it just circles the perimeter of the world, exactly one block down from the highest point you can build. Trying to keep a one block gap between the ceiling and any existing structures, if you need to build that high feel free to break through the part necessary but please no one go around just shattering the ceiling, it takes forever to construct.

I was considering doing that (making a glass ceiling, not shattering yours), but the effort to create it would be immense. Also at least my main tower and the skyscraper next door are at the very limit of height. Should look impressive once it's done though.
