Nuklear Wright: Power Attorney - An Unbeelievable Catastrophe! A Honey of a Crime!

Rules mostly taken from Mirai's previous game cuz I'm all lazy:

In the beginning, I come in as the Judge and as Gumshoe. As the Judge I explain the situation, and then I give testimony as Gumshoe, whom sets up the basic story. After Gumshoe's initial testimony, the players may take action, and the lawyers from both sides may ask for any clarifications from the detective before the defendant is called to the stand.

He will be followed by the prosecution calling their first witness, who will be the victim. The defense will then call their next witness, then the prosecution, and so on.

Witnesses can be recalled to the stand by attorneys on either side should the testimonies of later witnesses shed light on questions only they can answer. However, this will only be allowed once for each witness, so choose your opportunities carefully, attorneys.

Witnesses are to follow their given testimony guidelines. If they do not, that will be contradictory and it will damage their credibility.

The Players...
Judge Godot/Gumshoe: POS Industries
Defendant: Ryanderman
Clerk: PyrosNine

The Defense...
Mia Fey: Shyria Dracnoir
Phoenix Wright: Loyal
Apollo Justice?: Rejected Again
Witness: Flarecobra
Witness: Fenris

The Prosecution...
Floyd: Arhra
Edgeworth: Mac
Franziska von Karma: The SSB Intern
Witness: Magic_Marker
Witness: NonCon

Guidelines for testimony are thus:
1) Testimony given can't contradict Gumshoe.
2) Testimony given can't contradict your own earlier testimony, though that's not something to be enforced more than it will just make you look stupid.
3) Testimony cannot contradict what I've told you at all. If you have a question about your role and you aren't sure how to reply, PM me. I will explain further.

Any contradictions are perfectly open for either side's cross-examination to object to.

This would encourage creativity, allow room for screw-ups, but doesn't totally rape a case if someone is lying. It also nicely organizes it so that your most important witness can be at the beginning, because they set the story up. At the end I judge fairly and evenly (PfffhahahahahaHA!).

Also; Judging is based off of a variety of factors, not just who was more convincing. Try to keep it fun.

Okay, that's enough dicking around, this court is now in session. Judge Godot presiding.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...odot-zoomb.gif
That's right, I'm also a judge!

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...ject-godot.gif
So don't test me, because I'm pretty sure I can fire off optic blasts or something.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...t-forwardb.gif
Anyway, today this court will hear arguments for the case against Ryanderman, who stands before us charged with breaking and entering, robbery, destruction of private property, destruction of public property, criminal mischief, and just generally being an asshole.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...odot-sideb.gif
Yes, that last one is a crime on these forums. Go look it up.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...t-forwardb.gif
He is brought before the court to answer these charges in relation to the recent disastrous destruction of the Special Bee Cannon, an experimental weapon commissioned by the NPF administration to assist the mod staff in repelling potential invasions of the forums and was under development by the victim, NonCon.

The prosecution contends that Ryanderman broke into the Bee Cannon construction compound to steal delicious weaponized honey, accidentally causing a power surge that overloaded the cannon's central control mechanism and burned it out, resulting in the bees within going wild and swarming the town, as well as rendering the machine damaged beyond repair.

Between the money lost in the project's investment, untold property damage and injury to the populace, the cost of this disaster is projected to run into millions of rep rupees, which as we all know is the standard currency of any respectable webforum, but is nonetheless used by the NPF as well.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...odot-catch.gif
Now...

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...odot-sniff.gif

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...odot-chugs.gif

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...ection-mug.gif
...Detective Gumshoe, you're up! Let's hear how you fingered Ryanderman for the crime!

POS Industries 08-14-2010 01:18 AM

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...confidentb.gif
Yeah, you got it, pal. See--

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...mshoe-manb.gif
"Fingered"?! Just what are you tryin' to pull here? I...

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...heartenedb.gif
...Forget it.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...oe-normalb.gif
Anyways, it's all pretty open and shut. The suspect was spotted on the security cameras breaking in around 4am. The cameras went out around the time of the power surge, but they recorded enough footage for us to be able to see him going after the honey.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...-laughingb.gif
He even left honey-smeared handprints all over the place!

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...-thinkingb.gif
The power surge knocked out something called the "Mindhive" or whatever. I ain't no scientist or nothing, but apparently it sends out signals that communicate with the bees through the nectar or some deal like that, makes them able to be used as weapons against whatever bad guys wanna mess with our forums!

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...confidentb.gif
So that damage done, it was pretty easy to follow the bees to his house, where we found him zonked out covered in honey with jars of the stuff all around him, so we cuffed him and took him downtown.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eadscratch.gif
Also, I was stung by many bees.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...heartenedb.gif
...It hurt. A lot.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...hearteneda.gif

POS Industries 08-14-2010 01:25 AM

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...t-forwardb.gif
The detective's testimony has been entered into the court records.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...odot-sideb.gif
The defense may cross-examine him to their heart's content.

Loyal 08-14-2010 01:44 AM

(A bee cannon? Good grief, the things that could go wrong with that even if it were successful...)

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/b750c033.gif
Gumshoe, if you don't mind me asking a few questions... I'd like to know a bit more of the accused. What he did for a living and what business he might have had at the compound.

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/1a3ef3d2.gif
I'd also like to know what caused the power surge, if possible. Further, was anyone else there at the night of the crime? Night workers or security or anyone like that?

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/f63edb2e.gif
I suppose some details about how things are run at this compound would help, because this is frankly the first I've heard of this Special Bee Cannon.

POS Industries 08-14-2010 02:07 AM

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...mshoe-manb.gif
Never heard of it? It's a massive cannon filled with bees on the edge of town. You can't miss it! It's been in the papers for months! Where've you been?

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...shoe-sideb.gif
As for his occupation, Ryanderman's a student and, aside from the obvious lure of delicious evil science honey, our investigation has shown that the suspect was witnessed having a confrontation with the weapon's developer, NonCon, hours earlier at the Local Drinking Establishment, NPF's hottest local drinking establishment.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...confidentb.gif
But you'll hear about that later.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...oe-normalb.gif
Security at the compound, though? They keep the security cameras rolling, but apparently the operation was running under the assumption that only an idiot would actually want to break into a place filled with endless hordes of bees, so they didn't take too many precautions beyond filling the place with bees.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...eadscratch.gif
Unfortunately, we don't really know what caused the power surge since the cameras went out and the machine is huge, complicated, and next to impossible to investigate at the moment due to all those bees in it, but the running assumption is that he tripped over a cord.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...-thinkingb.gif
As for him tripping over the cord, that's the last thing we saw before the cameras blacked out.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...mshoe-manb.gif

(Brr. I don't care if I'm already dead, bees are just one of those things that never stop being scary)

http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/v...-thinkingb.gif

In any case, the fact that none of scientists at the facility had bothered with anything like a backup power supply for the cameras or an additional form of surveilance. It seems that if I were dealing with a force as unpredictable as weaponized killer bees, I'd want to take every safety precaution possible.

http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/v...-thinkinga.gif
I mean, really, there's probably a whole section in the Mad Scientist's Handbook devoted to preventing bee-related deaths. A subheader at least...

http://www.court-records.net/animati...ent%28b%29.gif

Now, Detective. When Mr. Man was arrested, were any bee stings visible? It would seem to me that if he had been in a building full of killer bees, he would have been stung. More so when the power to this "Mindhive" was cut off.

Loyal 08-14-2010 10:20 PM

I have one additional question, Gumshoe:

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/ef6d6d34.gif
It's been noted by yourself and Judge Godot that the evil science honey is delicious. Does the honey have any particular effect on humans from contact or ingestion? Addiction, neurotic behavior, that sort of thing?

You'd have to ask NonCon about all that. All I can say for sure is that, if I remember my grade school science classes, bees make honey from their nectar, and the nectar is somehow used as part of the control process in the cannon, but I don't know if the honey has anything to do with that.

Well, a lot of us were getting stung that day so we didn't think to check. Now that I think about it, though, I don't think I saw him looking like he was getting stung by anything in the security videos.

There's one point that still puzzles me. The police claim that the suspect left honey-smeared handprints all over the scene, and yet the security cameras show no evidence of him getting stung. You'd think the bees would be a little more upset with him considering he (supposedly) broke into their hives and stole their food. Is it possible the suspect had access to some sort of counter-agent that somehow made him less of a target to the bees. And is possible to trace the physical or chemical makeup of this agent (if found) to a possible supplier?

Now Detective Gumshoe. You say you arrested Mr. Ryanderman at his house. What kind of clothes was he wearing and did you run a comparison test between the honey on his clothes and the honey from the Lab?

http://i33.tinypic.com/71qka0.jpg

You also claim that the accused tripped over the camera. Did the camera get a picture of his face?

http://i34.tinypic.com/1417ea0.jpg

Lastly, you say that the accused did not have any visible stings, but you also claimed alot of you were stung. Could it be possible due to your stings that you were unable to see them due to your injuries. The pain, or perhaps the medication, clouding your memories

His clothes were pretty normal, from what I can remember. Not like he was specifically dressed up to go on a sneaky ninja mission to steal stuff or nothin'.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...confidentb.gif
Our boys in the lab were able to run a comparison between the honey he had and what was stolen from the facility--with a sample provided by NonCon, of course--and it was a match.

No no, Edgie, you got it all wrong! He tripped over a cord, not the camera!

But we were able to get a good look at the robbery from the security footage. Lemme run through it for ya:

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...ies/video1.jpg
This is the scene as the suspect entered. You can make out his face all right, of course, but the audio is what really clued us in on a possible identity.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...ies/video2.jpg
From here, you can see him clearly going after the honey and making his intentions clear...

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...ies/video3.jpg
...before turning to make his getaway.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...ies/video4.jpg
Unfortunately, it seems he failed to look where he was going. You can see the cord get knocked out right here, but this is where the footage ends before the cameras go down.

Pretty clear cut, if you ask me!

So with the evening pretty much a bust, I went home and went straight to bed.

The next morning I woke up to the sound of the Gumshoe banging on my door.
I had a splitting headache, and was covered in honey. There were also jars of honey all over the place!
Before I had a chance to comprehend the situation the Gumshoe barged in, and I was arrested.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif
The buzzing from the swarms of bees all throughout town on the way to the police station did not help my headache any.

Ahem: Right away, Your Honor. Mr. Man, if I could call your attention to Det. Gumshoe's testimony:

Quote:

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o...shoe-sideb.gif
Our investigation has shown that the suspect was witnessed having a confrontation with the weapon's developer, NonCon, hours earlier at the Local Drinking Establishment,

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/b750c033.gif
Would you care to elaborate on this confrontation, and why you failed to mention it in your testimony regarding your... evening, with Ms. Cobra?
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/8823b8f1.gif
I would also like to hear more about this attempt to spike her drink. It sounds important.

Ryanderman 08-21-2010 01:36 AM

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
Of course, Ms. Fey, Mr. Wright. I would be happy to expand upon my testimony.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
As I said before, I was having a pleasant conversation with Ms. Cobra when I noticed a villain slipping something into her drink.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
As I am a gallant gentleman, I accosted the individual.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
I don't remember exactly what I said

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
But it must have been suitably intimidating, as he left quickly.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28a%29.gif
Actually, I'm not entirely sure on that point either.
I think he left, but... I can't... really... remember.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
But anyway, as for his description, he was... uh...um...

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
I mean to say, his height was...
Or rather, he was wearing...

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
...I can't remember...

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif

I remember confronting the man who spiked Flare's drink, but I don't recall any details.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
I must have had too much to drink myself.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif
Which is odd, because I generally don't have that problem, and I don't remember drinking all that much.
But perhaps I can't hold my liquor.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
I don't recall anything unusual on my way home, but it was rather a blurr like the rest of the evening.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
And no, I don't remember anything about a confrontation with NonCon. I don't think I saw him at all that night.
Det. Gumshoe probably misheard whoever he thought told him that.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif
He's incompetent you know. A menace.
I plan to sue him for excessive use of force and wrongful arrest when this is all over.

Further, you were witnessed, in the very same Local Drinking Establinshed, having a confrontation with NonCon.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
If you'll recall, I speculated about the reason for my difficulty remembering the details of that evening.
I conluded with the best explanation I could think of given the information I had, that I had had too much to drink.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif
But I quickly dismissed that conclusion, as I have no history of excessive drinking, and I remember not having much to drink.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
I went on to speculate that perhaps I have a low tolerance for alcohol. Something I could be uncertain about, due to the fact that I do not drink much.
But once Mr. Justice presented a new possibility that my drink had been drugged, I realized that it was a far more logical explanation for the discrepency that had been bothering me.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif
I will be more specific now, Mr. Edgeworth, to make sure you understand, and to refute your foolish accusation.
Not only do I not have a drinking problem, I have never blacked out in my life.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
You see, Mr. Edgeworth, there is a significant difference between being unable to remember the details of the evening, and blacking out entirely.
In my initial testimony, I stated quite clearly.

I did not make that up, Mr. Edgeworth, nor did I merely assume that is what happened. I remember going home and going to bed.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
I shall explain the difference between a blurry memory and a blackout for you, Mr. Edgeworth, so that you do not make the same tragic error in comprehension with the next innocent victime of a frame you attempt to perpetrate a miscarriage of justice upon in this courtroom.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
My evening, Mr. Edgeworth, was blurry. I cannot remember the details of the events of the evening.
Imagine, if you can, wearing glasses with the wrong prescription, earplugs, and mittens. Imagine also spinning in an office chair until even after you stop, the room continues to spin.
That, Mr. Edgeworth, is how I remember the evening.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif
But even with my memory tainted by the wrong glasses, earplugs, mittens, and dizziness, I still know where I was and what I was doing.
The details of the people I saw may be fuzzy, but I still remember seeing them.
The exact words spoken in conversation may be impossible to recall, but I still remember having the conversations, and remember their general tone.
The details of the bar may be indistinct, but I still know where I was, and what I was doing.
And Mr. Edgeworth, I can still recognize my own bed.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...ing%28b%29.gif
So to answer your question with a simplicity you can understand: No.
It is not possible that I "went to the compound and trashed everything."

Are you implying that someone came to your place, undressed you, took your clothes, dressed themselves up as you and went to the compound? Only to return to your place. How does that explain the honey on your hands?

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/f63edb2e.gif
D... did it ever occur to you that the defendant might have more than one set of clothes? Or that this second person could have thrown the honey on the defendant himself? We only found several jars of the stuff at the defendant's home.

On top of that, we have one critical, unsolved mystery: Why has Mr. Man not been stung? After all, he's allegedly broken into a compound filled with violent, raging bees, and stolen their precious honey...

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/909d53f7.gif
...yet according to Det. Gumshoe he hasn't brought home any painful souvenirs to tell about it.

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/3c95a2f4.gif
So, Edgeworth, what makes him so special?

http://i33.tinypic.com/71qka0.jpg
The defendant is working with stinging insects. They would be, should be protected against such hazards. Perhaps it is a special insect repellent or beekeeper gear.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
The issue, Mr. Edgeworth, is not that I may not remember going to the compound, it is that I specifically remember leaving the Local Drinking Establishment, and going home to bed. There is no gap in my memory in which this supposed misadventure at the Bee Cannon Compound could have taken place.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...are%28b%29.gif
Unless you'd like to propose, without a shred of evidence, that I broke into the compound while sleep walking, after having already gone home and gone to bed, there is no possibility that I was the culprit.

Why Ms. von Karma, it is certainly good to talk to a layperson who has the capacity to understand the work that I do.
But I'm afraid you've misunderstood the nature of my studies.
An entirely understandable mistake for someone who hasn't devoted the years of research that I have.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ECZ2yh44IIM/TG...mal%28b%29.gif
The viscous damping in my studies is merely the mathematical model used to approximate the effect of damping on vibrating solid mechanical structures. It has nothing to do with bees, or honey, or whatever other crazy activities it appears they get up to at that place.

The project was nearing completion, so I decided to celebrate by visiting the local drinking establishment. While I was walking past Ryanderman, he spilled some of his drink on me.

I confronted him about it, and he started yelling. He didn't seem to be handling his alcohol well, because I could barely understand a word he said.

As I'm sure you can understand, I didn't feel like sticking around after that.

The next morning I found that my machine was ruined, and some of the mind honey stolen! A quick look at the security feed was all it took to prove Ryanderman's guilt. Whether he stole it during a mad case of the munchies, or due to a drunken vendetta, I haven't a clue.

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/ef6d6d34.gif
I find that odd, because, ignoring for a moment Mr. Man's own insistent declaration that he could handle his alcohol well, the man depicted in the security feed is undeniably lucid.

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/b750c033.gif
I hardly think someone could become so articulate in the reasonably short time between your confrontation with Mr. Man and the incident at the compound!
Do you have anything to say to that, Mr. NonCon?

Kim 08-26-2010 09:09 AM

I'm a scientist, you know. Also, I thought Judge Godot said prosecution.

http://i35.tinypic.com/v7tyip.gif
The liver of a healthy adult male can, on average, metabolize 30ml of ethanol per hour. However, the effect a particular amount would have on an individual can vary greatly from person to person, and on a number of outside factors. Ryanderman said he does not have a history of excessive drinking. As such, he might not have an especially high alcohol tolerance. He himself speculated at one point that he might have had too much to drink, and his memory certainly wasn't clear enough to remember the altercation with me, according to him at least. I'd say this supports my claim.

According to Detective Gumshoe's testimony earlier, there were several hours between our argument and the theft, giving his body plenty of time to metabolize the alcohol. Since he is not an alcoholic, it would take less to get him that drunk, and therefore he would sober up faster. It's really not that far-fetched. Besides, just because he can speak somewhat clearly doesn't mean he was completely sober at the time. He did trip on that cord, after all.

The Bee Cannon operates primarily though controlling the bees via their own nector, broadcasting orders from a central control hub called the "Mindhive." The signals from the mindhive resonate within the nectar, forcing the bees to follow orders.

It very well could have. You'll notice he dropped several jars when he tripped over that cord. I believe Gumshoe mentioned he had to go grab other jars. Even on the off-chance that tripping over the cord itself didn't cause it, which is the most likely scenario, whatever he did when the security cameras were off could have.

Standard stuff like bee-keeper outfits and the like, but by this point they were kept fairly tame and harmless. As to why they didn't sting Mr. Man, perhaps he smelled so much of honey they didn't perceive him as a threat. I'm honestly not sure.
