Sprites

Is there anyway i can use some of the sprites used in this?

Loyal 02-13-2011 09:32 PM

The sprites are low-res enough that editing them shouldn't be an issue.

Brian hardly owns them.

Here's a good site for the base sprites used in 8BT.

What i meant is the sprites like the ones for garland,
or the ones that aren't the normal sprites.

Garland is just a modified FF3j Dark Knight. Bikke is a stretched Thief with a pirate hat. Drizz'l is a mod of the FF3j Scholar. Vilbert is an outright recolor of the Scholar.

Pretty much everything else is ripped off from either FF1 or FF3j without modification, other than Sarda, who's a modified Doga with a new position added for casting, Dragoon, who's a recolored FF3j Dragoon, and a few custom poses.

Basically, Brian owns about as much of the sprites as you own land on the Earth. If you're looking to make a sprite comic, there are plenty of sprites freely available without hitting up Brian for his.

The thing is, i'm not that good at editing sprites.
I noticed that for what i'm wanting to make i wont need bikke or garland sprites.
But what about sprites like in this comic
http://www.nuklearpower.com/2003/04/...-panel-battle/
What about those

phil_ 02-14-2011 07:02 PM

You could cut them out of the comic and touch'em up. Or just pixel-by-pixel copy it. You know, one Paint window, one browser-of-your-choice window; switch between them.

Ask Sky Warrior Bob. He made them.

Loyal 02-14-2011 07:53 PM

I have to ask: if you can't edit the sprites yourself, what are you using them for?

Sin-Ran 02-14-2011 08:21 PM

Comics

by the way, can i make a forum comic?

phil_ 02-14-2011 08:41 PM

Like, a comic about this forum, or just a comic with updates posted on this forum? Both have been done, so I don't think anyone would mind.

Sin-Ran 02-14-2011 08:42 PM

The latter
and where would i post it?

Just saying this, but if you're making sprite comics, you'll either want a very good source of sprites (either a very expressive game or someone to do them for you) or to be able to modify them yourself.

Also, Brian's advice to making sprite comics has always been "don't." They don't sell and 8-Bit's success was a massive anomaly.

But really, from a guy who does sprites, and started doing them for sprite comics, you'll want to learn how to do sprites if you're going to be making sprite comics. The benefit is that once a sprite is made, you can save and re-use it.

Sin-Ran 02-14-2011 08:50 PM

But still, where do i post it

Loyal 02-14-2011 08:54 PM

You could make a thread in the art forum. Just note that you had better be willing and prepared to receive and learn from criticism, in the event that it draws enough interest to be posted about to begin with.

Sin-Ran 02-14-2011 08:56 PM

ok

I will post here again when i need help, ok?

Meister 02-15-2011 03:22 AM

Probably better to post questions about comic-making in your thread in the art forum and questions about the forum in forum-related stuff.

Sin-Ran 02-15-2011 06:27 AM

I've started the comic
you should go see it

ChaoticBrain 02-15-2011 12:52 PM

Can you post a link to it?
