Conservative Mafia Signups

...Y'all better be careful because in this game of Mafia, sinister big-govahmant, tax-adorin', gay-supportin', sex-addictin', gun-controllin', God-denyin', Obama-lovin', pro-death, anti-capitalist, terrorist-coddlin' liberals are on the loose.

They'd just 'bout use their big science textbooks and their fancy arcane language to destroy the very fabric of 'Muricah if you don't put those bearded communist hippies and their feminist girlfriends down.

Sign up here and save your country from evil today.

Sure, let's cap some libbies.

Solid Snake 08-04-2012 06:43 PM

Also, because apparently this is a big deal:

1: Use your regular accounts, not Mafia-specific ones.

2: EDIT: Nevermind I'm going to try this edupad doohickey.

3: NO DISCUSSION OF ANYTHING MAFIA RELATED ON NPF CHAT, or any other chat we happen to frequent, subject to immediate bannin' the second I find out.

And I will be the more reluctant spectator, but sure.

I guess.

Maybe . . .

Mr.Bookworm 08-05-2012 01:56 AM

I'm on this like Glenn Beck on a girl in 1990.

Let's go ahead and try to avoid these kinds of jokes, shall we?

Mr.Bookworm 08-05-2012 04:05 AM

Sorry, that was in really poor taste.

Er. I'd still like to be in the game, terrible jokes aside.

POS Industries 08-05-2012 04:34 AM

I doubt that's a problem or anything.

Ryanderman 08-05-2012 02:39 PM

I'll join this.

silverthundr 08-06-2012 08:42 PM

Hmm. I really haven't been on this site for a while, and I lurked when I did, but Mafia interests me. I'd like to join.

See, I'm worried the game is going to be ENTIRELY those jokes.

POS Industries 08-06-2012 09:38 PM

Glenn Beck jokes are A-OK.

I'm pretty sure Snake has no interest in making an entirely rape-joke-fueled Mafia game.

In most other Mafia games I've run elsewhere I've generally been against unfamiliar faces with tiny post counts joining in under the assumption of doppelganger shenanigans, but in this case I'm going to assume that the Mods are on their game with IP checks and whatnot and that you're clean as a whistle.

As for jokes: Just about everything else is fair game -- and there's plenty of jokes to be had at Republicans' expense -- but when it comes to jokes at the expense of underprivileged minorities, I'm going to be a bit of a hardass, even if you're trying one of those subtle satire tricks where the joke's really on your representation of a conservative 'character.' Great comedians with a progressive tilt probably can make jokes about any subject with the proper context, while subtly informing the audience who the joke is really on, but NPF isn't composed of comedians of that caliber and I don't want anyone hiding behind a veil of conservative caricature as an excuse to type patently homophobic / misogynistic things.

While you can probably say something broad and generic like "Dem gays are nothing but trouble" and ensure an implicit understanding that you're playing a role, the problem is it's very easy to gradually shift the imaginary conversation outside the bounds of decorum when the 'insults' get more specific, as they inevitably tend to. And I don't want an otherwise fun game of Mafia turning into a series of hurtful comments.

Generally speaking, you should intuitively know where the 'line' is. (After all, you're not a conservative.) And you should avoid crossing that line. But if you don't know where the 'line' is, the good news is there's about ten-trillion other Republican stereotypes you can make jokes about that are totally all right, including war policy, national security, the environment, the second amendment, excessive corporate ties, excessive religious ties, excessive nationalism, distrust of science, Ayn Rand's bullshit, the war on drugs, originalism in constitutional law, Fox News quips, invasion of privacy, hating on Hollywood celebrities, supporting the death penalty, despising sexual promiscuity, etc.

Those topics should keep you plenty busy.

Fenris 08-07-2012 12:51 AM

Or we could just abandon roleplay!

BahamutFlare 08-07-2012 11:59 AM

Since jokes would be made about Republicans, jokes can be made about Democrats too. If you can't take it, don't dish it. That kind of deal. Right?

If this gets too political and not mafia-like, I'm probably going to drop relatively quickly.

Solid Snake 08-07-2012 12:14 PM

I was looking forward to reading a few snide snippets of political commentary from a few folks here who might enjoy the roleplaying aspect; however, if it becomes too big a distraction or if it breaches the aforementioned topics I'd prefer us to avoid, I might have to institute a roleplaying ban.

Generally what I've learned regarding Mafia is, the less ground rules from the creator the more fun the game can be as people take things in unexpected directions. So I'd prefer not to force a roleplaying ban unless I have to.

Geminex 08-07-2012 12:19 PM

Man, might as well
Despite my distinctive lack of attendance last time

Will this one be anon again?

Nope.

Sifright 08-07-2012 12:38 PM

I was going to join but then i saw you didn't want to run it anonymously and then decided i didn't.

Anonymous games are way better.

Loyal 08-07-2012 12:54 PM

Sitting out.

Seeing how Liberals are to be the scum-team in this ordeal, I can only imagine that acting like a democrat and making self-depreciative jokes on their behalf would be a monumentally terrible idea for your continued survival.

Also, I like how Snake decided Persona was too sensitive a subject to make a Mafia game of, and then went on to determine the American political spectrum was somehow preferable.

Solid Snake 08-07-2012 01:10 PM

I honestly thought everyone's legitimate hatred of Republicans would make the game concept far less divisive and less controversial

Well yea, but then people are going to be like well what about making fun of democrats! only every one on here that rages at the republicans hates the shit out of the democrats.

I saw that response coming though.

but like I said earlier I'll play if we are using the random unknown mafia accounts otherwise no.

IHateMakingNames 08-07-2012 01:42 PM

If it matters I chose not to sign up for this due to the theme.

Rhiya Ravenwing 08-07-2012 04:40 PM

I have no idea what everyone is talking about since I'm not really into political doodahs. I'll be playing the game like a mafia game, but might look up some witty comments regarding such things to use. Why are people being bitter bums about this?

Solid Snake 08-07-2012 06:01 PM

This is NPF. If people weren't bitter bum cynics about everything, I'd be confused. :P

Professor Smarmiarty 08-07-2012 06:17 PM

Can I be Zombie Lincoln?

Ecks 08-08-2012 01:04 PM

wow people crabbed up awful quickly over this

Seriously I doubt it'll go much farther than 'merka jokes and sarcasm fueled quips day one and then straight to srsbzns like every mafia game ever

please excuse my bitterness im still a little agitated that so many people bitch over rp in these games

Solid Snake 08-08-2012 01:13 PM

The clear answer to this conflict given I've just recently beaten and enjoyed FFXIII and FFXIII-2 is to punish you all with a FFXIII theme.
Is that what you want, Nuklear Power Forums?!?

SPOILER ALERT: Aldurin is Vanille, TOWN Most Annoying Character in the Human History of Written Narratives, everyone.
:smug:

Aldurin 08-08-2012 01:48 PM

Vanille is Republican?

POS Industries 08-08-2012 09:26 PM

Obviously. She's a vocal opponent of gay rights.

Because, like all homophobes, her hatred stems from projected self-loathing regarding her own sexuality.

Gregness 08-10-2012 12:17 AM

YUUUUUUUSSSSS!

Ryanderman 08-10-2012 08:41 AM

I need to drop out. Realizing this is going to go long enough that I'll have to go AWOL in the middle.

Griever 08-15-2012 06:58 PM

If possible I would like to sign up for this. If I am too late to do so I apologize for the bother.

Ecks 08-20-2012 02:08 PM

so whats going on with this snake are we a go or what

Solid Snake 08-20-2012 05:06 PM

Doesn't look like there will be enough participants, and I'm too stubborn to change the theme just because the theme apparently scared off peeps. So, no, I don't think this will be happening.

Fenris 08-20-2012 06:40 PM

okay somebody start up a signup thread for something, like Sif or SMB or some shit.

Ecks 10-01-2012 12:20 PM

wheeeeeeee forum games died off completely

Fenris 10-01-2012 10:41 PM
