Rep Systems or "I'm a Sore Loser!"
So I took a look at my X-box 360 Live Profile and my Player Rep. I had to laugh as at one time...I didn't know about this function and was left wondering how so many players could rate me as one to avoid. I only play one online game on my 360...World of Tanks: X-Box 360 Edition and I can confirm that for sure.
Here is the breakdown. Quote:
Quote:
I did the math and this meant that only 5% out of the 82% that avoided me bothered to rate my skill as a player of the game. Still curious how many people this means bothered to rate me for something besides cited examples that might earn some bad rep. Though if this is not proof that the reputation system of X-box Live's is prone to abuse by sore losers (or players who do not like it when you out perform their YOLO COD garbage) will rate you badly for anything as long as they can avoid you...I don't know what is. But that's just my opinion. What do you guys think? |
It's a nice idea in concept but very flawed in that it can be abused by players over petty reasons. Such as losing in a fair match or because you politely asked them to stop trolling.

Seriously though...why have a system like this that is so easily abused by people who get mad enough over being outplayed that they need to rep someone as avoid for whatever they want. |
Yup, you can't snipe if you aren't camping to some degree. It just wouldn't be proper sniping. XD
|
I prefer to joke around with everyone, regardless of performance.
My rep is good, though I should be upfront and note that I haven't been on Live much in the past year or two.
Still I can't help but feel that if you're this upset about your rep numbers, such that you need to make a thread and counter/justify yourself to a bunch of people who likely have had no effect on your rep, maybe you do need to watch your language and how you play now and again. But I dunno, maybe I've never come across the kinds of players you have who like to report everyone. |
Quote:
And by abused...I mean you do not need to validate. All you do is select a player, select to rep them, than avoid and give one of three reasons: Communication, Behavior, or Player Skill with another three. Player Skill has Being bad at the game, not understanding it, or being too good at the game as options. Apparently, some people get ticked when you try to play as a team and help others out or don't go running into a meat grinder YOLO Lemming Train style and try to point out we are leaving a flank open WHILE trying to set up to hold that flank in a Tank that should not be trying to do so. I was asking if the system is as easily abused as it seems to be. Quote:

When an outcome is consistently negative, you can only blame others for so long.
Quote:
Put another way: If everyone is "abusing" the system and illegitimately repping you to avoid playing with you again, maybe you should consider why they feel the need to do so. |

Case in point...I ran into a player who basically called not just the enemy team but their own team mates "retards" and was otherwise verbally abusive to everyone. He had a five-star rep. Now explain how a guy who is verbally abusive to his own team on the mic has five stars? Even with only my own issues...I'm only PART of the problem. EDIT: Also, nice job ignoring the note right under what you quoted making it clear I do not think that of all CoD players. EDIT2: In short, and as an example...You have an outstanding game? Someone can rep to avoid you for anything they want whether they were on the enemy team or your own team. EDIT3: This is from one of Wargaming's own employees and they are encouraged to play the game even during work hours. This person represents the company on the forums and in the game. Do you think they are going to act like arseholes to other players or would that not look bad on the company and stop people from playing? Also, you can not see why another player has good or bad rep. Just yourself. So you got no clue why someone's rep is in the tank if they got 2 or less stars. |
I would recommend just log on, play the game, shut the hell up, do your job, and try with your very biggest boy pants to not call them all CoD playing rejects of society.
I mean rpg makes a heck of a point right there that, in the offhanded way you referred to them like that, sure you're among friends here and like can chill back and crack a beer and have a laugh but it gives insight into how you view the people you play games with and that shines through in other ways too. |

I also typically hold my opinion until someone or a bunch of someones start to act in a certain manner. I will not rep a bunch of players just for running a Lemming Train and not pushing it forward. I don't even bad rep if you have your kinect on and we can hear your whole family arguing in the background. I just mute you. I will rep players as avoid for trolling your team in someway or otherwise being a jerk on the mic to their own team. |
I have needed this advice myself before.
TF2 public servers detest what they call "tryhards" perhaps even more than they do the n00bs. The sort who has to write essays in the chatbox or bark orders over the microphone to their team mates who, in their eyes, are not playing the game properly when really all they wanna do is have some fun and goof off a bit.
Based on a lot of what you've said here in this thread, I'd wager you're stepping on a few toes in this kinda fashion. I totally understand that it gets frustrating when your team aren't pulling their weight or just refuse to use advanced techniques, but in quickplay games especially people just wanna relax and have a laugh- the lemming train might not be a fantastic strategy, but it's a pretty funny idea! If you're looking for more competitive players, maybe seek out a few clan games (forgive me, I don't know how XBL works in this regard), or find a league to play in. The kind of matches where hints and pointers and alerts are desired by everyone playing and not just the one guy in the corner grumping that other people aren't playing the game properly. You're always gonna get the revenge-repper, of course. But I think if you chuckle along with the rest of your team when you get wiped instead of letting it annoy you, your balance should start to come back. Games are about having fun, so have fun! |
I have some 1300 dota games and I've been commended for:
Friendly - 31 Forgiving - 10 Teaching - 14 Leadership - 15 WHAT DOES IT MEAN |

EDIT: I should clarify. One of these curb stomps is not bad but when you get them for an hour or two..or even more..than they get on your nerves. I typically take a break. Especially when the reason it happens is obvious in that nearly the whole team went mindset "k1llallr3dtank5!" and charged in the same direction...only to either be held off or slaughtered by two or three tanks. Granted...it is rather hard to understand as the Lemming Train is a phenomena unique to mainly World of Tanks in both PC and 360 versions. It's normally a result of matchmaking, mindsets, and people with a lack of map/situational awareness being put in the same game. EDIT2: This video might explain better with visuals WHAT I am talking about. Now imagine a streak of these kinds of games for an hour or two or even a few days... |
Wherein Arc rants about the shitty 360 rep system and how it is worthless
The 360 rep system is worthless. Do not attribute any value to it, or how it reflects upon you as a player. This is true for several reasons:
First, this: Quote:
Which leads me to the second reason: Rarely do people mark down a legitimate complaint. When I used to play a bunch of Halo and Gears of War with my brother and a few friends, we would always report someone for having a disruptive voice. Excessive lag? Disruptive voice. Completely beyond our skill level and we wanted to lower the odds of playing with you again? Disruptive voice. Disruptive voice? Disruptive voice. We found it funny, and figured it might lend to confusion if someone ever managed to take the report %s seriously. I'm not saying everyone does this, just that if someone simply wants to lower the chances of playing with you again for whatever reason, there's a chance they went with the quickest report options, or the ones that amused them. If this system were to be implemented in say DotA2, where the reports against me were weighed directly against the commends against me (and not averaged across every player I've ever played with), then I'm willing to guess it would be at least even between the two, probably more in favor of the reports simply because I antagonize the trolls more than I perform well enough that convinces people to commend me. However I have never once received a chat ban or been put in low priority queue because in the grand scheme of things those reports are tiny and worthless when compared to the vast majority of apathetic players. Now, the closest comparison I have to the World of Tanks community on the 360 is the League of Legends community (F2P, microtransactions, League is super toxic because it's a moba, and Tanks is super toxic because it's a free 360 game). And LoL players looooovvveee their reports. If you play a tiny bit worse than what they want you to be playing, you're getting reported for "lacking skill" (yes that's a legitimate report option, but most people claim it does nothing and that's probably true, it's more like a stress ball). But Tanks doesn't have a stress ball report, so your reports get added up and then for some reason you think they are meaningful. They aren't. The 360 community when it comes to war games is awful. Do not put stock in what they say about you, even indirectly. They're assholes hidden by the anonymity of the internet that you just met, their opinion of you should hold little to no weight. ---------- Post added at 03:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:35 PM ---------- Like, to elaborate on Ryong's sarcastic comment and my mentioning of the DotA2 system, I have: Friendly: 26 Forgiving: 4 Teaching: 4 Leadership: 9 Across ~780 games. That's ~7020 (780x9) people I've played with, and only 43 have bothered to rate me. That's 0.6% of the people I've played with. And I think it's safe to say over 50 people have reported me for whatever reason, or at least claimed to have reported me in chat, plus whoever might've reported me without advertising it. But that's not the point. The point is the vast majority (literally 99% of the people I've played with) don't give a shit. So you shouldn't care about the ones who feel the need to report you for whatever reason. |
I know all that Arcanum by now. I was just having a laugh that only 5% were rating me on skill.
Also, the World of Tanks 360 forums is not a toxic community. The toxic stuff comes from the people who do not come to the forums and treat World of Tanks: 360 Edition like it is a standard shooter and think they are going to be as elite at it as they are in the other game. A mindset that Wargaming.net has made clear in a trailer is the exact WRONG way to approach their game. Oh look, here is the trailer! EDIT: Also, Satan's Onion; I do sit down, shut up and do my job for the team. It is just frustrating when you try hard as you can to avoid a loss and still dealt a curb stomp... |
