Post-Partem Depression for Writers

I just finished the first series of stories that I ever made. I'm feeling a lot of mixed emotions right now and I don't really know what to do. On one hand, I'm glad that I stuck with that story throughout the years until the very end but now I have nothing to look forward to with those characters anymore.

It was a lot of fun writing all of it. I've been planning a sort of sequel to it, I even started it a while ago because it involved new characters, but now I'm not sure if my heart is in it anymore.

Are there any other writers that know what I'm talking about?

I haven't been there personally but I think I know what it's about. Finishing your stories is a lot like having your kids grow up and move out, and it's not something we instinctively know how to deal with. But the important thing to remember is that you have succeeded, that this is how it's supposed to end in the best of all possible worlds. When they don't need you anymore, when they're capable of being by themselves and being themselves, sure it's confusing because the focus of your life is no longer their life, and you're probably lonely, but that's not the important part. The important part is you finished the job and no one got too badly traumatized or mutilated by your mistakes. Try to focus on that.
