Chimera Unit: Monster Hunters RP Sign-up

You have been called to be part of the elitest of the elite. You have never heard of the Demon Research Initiative. That was the plan. The DRI has been in place ever since WWII when it was at its basic a meager counter-agent to the Nazi's similar Demon-related program. Now we only take the best of the best. If a soldier is exceptional in the military he is promoted to serve under the highest echelons of the government. Our soldiers make them look like little boys. We only take the best and accept no substitutes. Set up as the "Mythological Containment Department Nobody Knows About" we have blossomed into a full fledged arm of the Army that doesn't exist except to keep the scattered unwanted Mythos in check.

That was before the awakening of the Hellmouths. All across America and Europe thin cracks between our dimension and the miriad of Hell universes began to spring up, and wherever the fabrics of reality are thin the lowest dregs of evil show up to relish in it. Through our help and the resurgence of the Slayer line all but two Hellmouths remained after 30 years of containment. Both were kept under close watch but troubles in the California branch spiraled out of control, making surveillance unattainable.

After the Slayer closed the California Hellmouth things began to return to the normalcy citizens have enjoyed throughout their lives. Recently though, the only other remaining portal in Ohio has seen a spike in 'arrivals' from its once nigh-dormant state. We have set up the neccesary precautions to limit its visibility but with only one beacon for evil now shining we fear for the worst.

And that is where you are coming in. We do not have an army of Slayers at our command, and even though our soldiers can handle anything we are not blind to the possibilities that an excess of undesirables can be more than we can feasibly handle.

A secret quasi-experimental group made of 'friendly' Mythos had been established some years back to success and the project, Chimera, has been reopened. We are inviting you because you are the best chance we have. You're welcome.

Bio and Personality:

Here is your Liason to us
Name: Charisma Brooks
Appearance: A very beautiful blonde, she has piercing eyes and a devilish smile. Here hair is usually bunned up and her eyes are almost always covered by her half-rim glasses. Can usually be seen with a clipboard and books.
Species: Vampire
Species Description:
Physical Characteristics - Normally, vampires are undistinguishable from humans, and unless the proper measures are taken they can pass into human society quite easily. Vampires are walking dead and as such exhibit the same properties: No body heat, no breath, no organic functions. When angered or under intense focus the face of the vampire transforms into a ghastly visage full of bumps and outstretched jaws to accompany the multitude of added teeth. Most field vampires are normally in their 'monster state'.
Strengths - Enhanced strength and speed, immortal unless properly taken care of, older age can sometimes yield strange powers (only seen in vampires over a millenium old), can regenerate from most non-lethal wounds if blood is given
Weaknesses - Cannot expose skin to direct sunlight, objects of faith will keep at bay and burn on contact (contrary to popular belief, crosses are not the only useable object as any object will do. As long as the holder has faith that the object can hold back the vampire its will work. Religous objects merely act as a lightning rod for the belief), cries of the 'innocent' will paralyze (babies and small toddlers are the only classified 'innocents'). Can be killed by (a) beheading (b) sunlight (c) wooden objects breaking through the heart.
Miscellaneous - The 'turning' process of vampires relieves the body of a soul, neccesitating spells or charms to 're-ensoul' the monster. As these spells are not always fool-proof, DRI will only accept those vampires who submit to having a 'safety chip' implanted into their brain. The chip merely makes it impossible to attack humans but leaves demons and other monsters open to battle.
Weapons: As your superior officer and chief of intel, Charisma uses no weapons.
Bio and Personality: Born in 1900, Charisma was turned at 23 and was one of the first captured in the first wave of DRI operations. Instead of being killed she was instead shamanically re-ensouled and helped gather intel for the organization. She was also one of the first to willingly submit to the chip-implantation when it was first introduced.
As an officer Charisma can seem cold but only to those she doesn't trust. Inside her circle of friends she is quite sociable if a little dry on the humor. She takes her tasks seriously and doesn't appreciate underlings goofing off or not following orders.

Species Description is just to cement a visible idea of what the limitations and rules are on your character (and other species like it). I will be playing an Incubus. Questions will be answered as they are asked. You're free to play any kind of mythical creature as long as you can define some rules to play by.

Name: Chris Valence

Appearance: What ever he/she/it wants it to be. Normally a brown haired youth of 18, wearing modern clothes.

Species:Alenx

Species Description: Alenx are shapeshifting aliens, capable of examining another creatures dna structure from afar and remodeling their own to become it. They are also highly advanced apparently, but Chris is unaware of this and can only hack and work complex electronic gizmos when his subconcious is in control, like after a concussion.
Strengths: He's only as strong as the creature he has become, but he can modify the creatures genes for certain effects, like make a unique individual of that species. Even if he can't get a good dna print of a creature, he can mimic it's body shape for a small amount of time.
Weaknesses:He'd live the rest of his life as a chimp if it paid well enough. Electric shocks can force him out of whatever form he's in, and long powerful shocks can trap him or contort him in a messed up form. He also is unprotected from much magic and psychic powers, as he is limited to strength only in the physical plane. He has to have seen the creature directly, and within a hundred meters in order to become it.

Weapons:It's hard for a shapeshifter to carry weapons, but chris somehow manages to hold onto a colt 45, thanks to a special blue pouch given to him.

Bio and Personality:Chris Valence was a normal human with great amounts of greed. Until later in his life, where he came in contact with a dying alien life form by the name of Alenx. In hopes of continuing his quest of vengeance against those who had injured him so, Alenx infused his dead body with that of Chris, granting him Alenx's species ability to shapeshift into other lifeforms. Chris arose reborn, as a half-alien with great amounts of greed. He quickly used his talents to gather as much money as possible, but was stopped from illegal activities by a friend, who was also the current incarnation of the Great Fire Demon of lore. He then decided to use his abilities for more legal aspirations, though he has been known to skim money off the top of whatever stolen loot he returns.

Chris was captured during a fight between the Fire Demon and a band of demons, he was mistaken for a multiform demon by the Demon Research Initiative and after learning he was good, and even resistant to chants and good magic, he was hired. Chris decided to hold onto this identity, as he was wracking up millions in ancient cursed relics. Suckers!

I'll be joining, but it'll have to be tomorrow or tonight, as I'm at school right now, and should be finishing up a project as I type this.

Prolly pretty godmoddy, this one... I'll edit if you don't like it.

Name: Fox

Appearance: A medium-sized fox whose pelt is bronze tipped with black. Her slanted eyes glow green with keen intelligence and a hint of mischief. Her other forms come from the three souls that inhabit her animal form, and they change when she nears a graveyard.

Species: Chinese Fox

Species Description:
Normal Characteristics – The chinese fox are an unremarkable race of fox originating from chinese mythology. When in their original form, they are a fox of undistinguishing features, blending easily into their normal, less magical species. However, their most distinguishing features are that they are commonly found wandering around graveyards where the spirits of the dead may commune through the fox and that they can live from between 800 – 1000 years. They are seen as a bad omen. They have three other forms: A young girl, an old man, and an adult person of either gender.
Strengths – Fire-related magic – including being able to create fire when they strike their tail on the ground in animal form. Agile, fast and long stamina. Quick, cunning intelligence. Polymorph into three other forms. Able to have moments of visions for the near future (Prismatic, I'll rely on you for the visions :)) Able to act as a medium between the dead and living. Normal lifespan between 800 – 1000 years. Can relocate into the body of another fox/temporary host providing necessary precautions aren’t taken care of. If one form dies prematurely, the form is regenerated after one day.
Weaknesses – if all four incarnations of Fox’s form is killed by normal/unnatural means within one day, Fox dies providing she does not relocate into another host body. Host body must be either a canine of sorts, or another living human being. If any of her forms are injured, injury shows up in other forms

Weapons: Fox cannot hold onto much except for a sharp dagger in her many forms. She mostly acts as scout, as her small body allows her to easily slip invisibly into enemy territory. The dagger is strapped onto a magical expandable/shrinkable belt that Fox can carry in her animal form around her belly. Clothing comes with her different forms. However, she can wield the dagger with deadly skill in her more youthful human forms.

Bio and Personality: Fox is an unusual mythos of her breed, as she chose to side with the DRI. Her personality is perhaps rather random, due to the many changes of souls that seem to imprint upon her whenever she nears a place similar to a graveyard (ancient battlefields, fresh battlefields, fresh and old corpses). Strangely enough, Fox originates from California, and not the traditional hunting grounds of China. Hence, she is strongly aware of the damage wreaked upon the state due to the rip between hell and earth during the 301st year of her life. Seeking asylum from the intrusion of these hellish attackers, she learnt from a dead incarnation that a group of special mythos have banded together under government and army regulations to stem this evil tide, and presented herself in the form of a strong, young pyromancer to aid in stopping the hellmouth from spilling any more nasty beasts. Once accepted, she revealed her true form as a quick, agile fox, and is now currently monitoring (spying) for any further movements on one of the hellmouths.

Soo...he can check out their entire DNA from looking at them from afar? Nu-uh, too easy to go "Oooh look, super demon thats killing our team *shapeshift*". How about we try the Animorphs rule, i.e, must touch the object's skin to absorb its DNA. The 'hacking' thing seems like it was tacked on. The alien gave you its power, not its mind (at least thats what the bio looks like).

Looks good, just don't stretch "modify creature's genes" into "Look, this bear now has a gun for an arm!".

Ok. Just remember that we're fighting demons and vampires and monsters (oh my) and not your average goon.

Rhiya: Take out the Luck thing and the future sigh (although if you want, I can PM you 'visions' during the RP). If one form gets hurt it shows up in the others (EX: She breaks her leg as a fox, the same leg is broken as a human.) Otherwise fine.

Name: Fei

Appearance: Chinese; shoulder-length, straight black hair and dark eyes; wears a black and red dress that comes to her knees, and black knee-length boots.

Species: Witch (Human)

Species Description: Witches can be from any species, and the only distinguishing characteristic is a mark on the left shoulder blade (or equivalent, in other species). The mark varies from witch to witch; Fei's is a Lotus blossom.
Strengths: Witches can bend the world to their will. Basically, if they concentrate hard enough and have enough energy, they can do anything. These changes still obey the law of conservation of matter, but not always the laws of physics.
Weaknesses: What can be changed depends on both the likelihood of the finished product and the energy and will of the witch. For example, heating a cup of tea isn't too hard, because the tea exists and it can be hot just as easily as cold, while changing a pile of sand into a grasshopper takes so much energy it could kill a witch who tried. Living things are always harder to change than other objects, and changing the type of matter (lead to gold, or something) takes more energy than reshaping the matter you have. Also, you have to either know exactly what and where you're working, or be able to see it. As this relates to Fei: she's a relatively new witch, so she can change objects up to a couple hundred pounds, change matter up to a couple pounds, and make living objects the size of ants.

Weapons: Fei carries a staff, but she knows how to use knives and spears to some degree; when she needs a weapon, she usually shapes one on the spot, putting a spearblade on her staff or shaping a knife.

Bio and Personality: Fei was raised in San Fransisco China Town, where her father owned a small souvenir shop. Her mother, who knew about demons and such, taught her basic self-defense with a knife. The shop was attacked by vampires after a talisman her father had aquired and she watched as both her parents were killed. Only twelve at the time, her anger at the vampires overflowed, and every piece of wood in the shop exploded, sending shards into both her and the vampires. A vampire hunter, on the trail of the vampires, found her and took her in, teaching her what he knew about her new powers while she attended college classes on chemistry and physics. After that, she joined the DRI to prevent that from happening to other people.
Fei is generally a normal teenager, but on the quiet side; she has a hatred of all vampires, but tries not to let it show around the ones she works with.

wilysword: I saw the 'spot saver' post before the real one (where all it basically said was that "Witches can do anything with enough willpower") and I almost had a "Oh dear God, godmodder" attack, but after seeing the completed project I'm quite amazed as to how the witching system works balance wise. Basically, everything looks fine.

Name: Nada (Does not remember original name)

Species: Animated Automaton

Species Description: Automata can take almost any form. Nada inhabits a body roughly 6'6" in height, fairly muscular, composed of wrought iron. He is solid black, with rough, unpolished surfaces. There are detailed designs etched into his entire body, inlaid with some sort of red paint. From a distance, if he chooses to wear clothes, he just looks like a big black human. He does normally wear clothes, though, typical to the modern era (see below). His physical strength is truly horrendous... given a good anchor (really solid floor) he has so far not been able to find anything he cannot lift. More often than not, if lifting something REALLY heavy he only serves to drive himself into the ground, since he is at the whim of physics. While he has so far also not been damaged, he has been incapacitated on several occaisions (lifted into the air, all his strength is moot. Knocked over, he has to get back up.) He weighs slightly over 800 lbs, which makes him think he is at least partially hollow.

Weapons: Fists. Big honking fists. Fists that can pick up big rocks, small cars, and whatnot. Is not too good with weapons, mainly has just brawling skills.

Bio and Personality: He is not sure who he was. He woke up on a slab in the basement of a slum in suburban Detroit. There was an old, dead man in the room. he is not sure if he was the man, or someone else, or maybe even a completely new conciousness. Over the years, he's realized that he does like to wear clothes of a certain style, which leads him to think he wasn't the old man, but perhaps one of the many missing youth from Detroit, sacrificed to give life to the Automata (the power of the spell apparently killed the old man in the basement). He isn't good with weapons, but he is a respectable, if somewhat slow, brawler. He's about as fast on his feet and with his hands as your average human being, so a trained fighter doesn't have a whole lot of trouble avoiding him.

Nada is a nice guy. He is friendly, and on several occaisions has gone out of his way to rescue innocent people. One time, this caused a three car pile up with himself trapped inside the mess, but he saved the puppy.

Name: Apollo

Species: Gorgan

Species discription: The gorgans are a race that varies from member to member. From Medusa and her sisters to the harpies that terrorized the northern mountains. From the hydra, pet of Ares, to the sirens. The gorgans are a deadly and respected family. Apollo is the glowing sun of a dying race. The age of the Gorgans is past, his family is on the brink of extinction. He was created with all the power the great mother chaos could provide. He is strong, with the ability to master any weapon in a matter of moments and predict an enemy's entire fighting style in only a few moments of actual combat. He has wings as well. Large and bat-like he can fly or use them to throw enemies off their feet.
Weaknesses: He hates kittens. Seriously, kittens cause him to totally panic, losing all concentration. Other than kittens he is nearly invincible.

Weapons: Attired in the armor of Achilles, greatest of the Greek heros, Harry carrys a spartan short sword, buckler shield, short throwing spears called pylums, and the mail skirt customary to the spartans. He wears no tunic as it would hinder the movement of his wings.

Bio and personality: Along with his huge power, his mother also gave him compassion and love. Surprisingly, he was not created with the intent of distruction, but protection. For The great god zues let her survive only if she promised to provide a guardian for his children. Seeing as how she sired the gods as well, she was more than happy to do so. The creations of her child Prometheus were worth this boon from their mighty grandmother. Apollo is this guardian, brave, chivalrous, compassionate. His idea of kin encompasses the entire human race, so he feels obligated to protect every human being he possibly can.

...I'm trying to figure out if this is a real character submission or a very well thought out joke-spot-holder.

Things that Are Wrong: Able to master any weapon in seconds? Able to predict an opponents fighting style a few punches into a fight? Nearly invincible? Wings? Some cat-phobia?

No, those individual things aren't wrong. If you used one or two seperately (excluding nearly invincible for obvious reasons), thats a pretty interesting character. All of them together, thats a pretty godmoddy character.
