Xbox 360 Debut and the oppositions responses

Did anybody watch the premier last night on MTV, I only caught the end of it which had the 4v4 battle of Perfect Dark Zero, it looked very pretty :)

Specs of the system are out on IGN here: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/608/608394p1.html

In response we'll soon have a PS3 unveiling, and then Nintendo announced today that the revolution will have wireless controllers, play dvds as well as be backwards compatable, and be no larger then the size of 3 dvd cases.

Thoughts?

There's ya go

Also since the 360 launch is in November (which is total bs, but whatever), someone at sony leaked a possible 2005 launch as well, though nintendo is still looking at a 2nd quarter 2006 launch

They didn't really show anything, so the whole unveiling was kind of pointless. Just an attempt to draw the casual gamer market.

Lucerin Red 05-13-2005 03:02 PM

well they did show the system specs, what it looked like and some gameplay, that's pretty much what an unveiling is

Meister 05-13-2005 03:09 PM

No taller than three stacked DVD cases, not no larger. It's still pretty compact, but it may well be wider (and I think it'd have to be, too). To compare: the N64 is as high as four to five stacked DVD cases.

... and the Oscar for best nitpicking goes to...

Lucerin Red 05-13-2005 05:03 PM

I dunno, IGN's model looks pretty compelling, it's like they already have the design or something

Psrdirector 05-13-2005 09:46 PM

nintendo was looking at a launch this year. not secound querter next year. They were the first to anounce a launch this year

Lucerin Red 05-13-2005 10:57 PM

ummmm, psr, I have NO idea where you got that information, I have never heard that, and there is no evidence pointing towards that, in fact there is evidence stating quite the contrary, such as the above stated link which I will now repost here

ChaosMage 05-13-2005 11:24 PM

Yeah, Psr, you're pretty much deadwrong on the matter. Nintendo has always been planning a 2nd quarter 2006 release. PS3 was briefly supposed to be December 2005, but got pushed back to 2006, but then was pushed back up to 2005 because of Microsoft. I don't really see it happening though.

As far as IGN's mockup of Revolution....too small. Take two sticks of RAM and thats already too little space. Throw in a CPU, a GPU, a motherboard, DVD drive....you're already exceeding the size there. Its gonna have to be wide and deep for it to be that tall, and even then its going to take some creative engineering.

I was thinking about XBox 360, and I decided that frankly, theres no need for me to buy a new computer for college. What I need to do is buy me one of those things, because they're $1,000 computers being sold at a massive loss, upgrade the video card and install Windows/Linux on it. Its got 3 3.2 GHz processors, a great GPU, plenty of really fast RAM...all you need is a better video card. The GPU is great, but with only 10 megs of RAM it won't cut it for a normal PC, whereas in the XBox 360 most of that 512 megs of RAM will be for 3D processing anyway. I mean, the damn thing is watercooled. Why even bother with building a formal computer?
