phil_mike, there was a problem with the link: they don't seem to want to give out 2003 version, and every DL link to the 2000 version is faulty. Anyone who knows of a place recently available, PMs are welcome (to prevent mods from saying that this falls under the OMG h4x rule, though I guess I'd be out already...).
Osterbaum, I wanted to suggest an NPC who's name always chaged but who would never chage location. The name would be that of the current n00b at different stages of the game. You know what I mean, the guys who come in to the forums, post a few (often good) remarks, then misteriously never show up again. |

So...much I can do for this little project? I have RM2k3 now, so I can see how little it comes with in terms of monsters, animations, and most especially battle sprites.
What programs would be best for making the battle sprites or weapon animations? If it's not too complex, I could probably do it. If not, I can sit down with Paint and make sprite sheets/monsters. :P |

If Shiney is to be a villain, and a close-to-final boss, then I should be a member of the party. There should be a quest later on in the game where the party travels outside of the known lands of the forums, to the strange outland of the chat room, to seek assistance. After proving yourselves by deciphering what the hell DarthZeth and JoeCB say, and defeating the bots, I shall join.
I'll always refer to shiney as Zel. And it's hinted that I share some mysterious past with him. Weapons I use are fencing foils and epees, and my skills are based off of my strange IRCing habits. And my commands should have the standard IRC / before them.... like /fight Some special skill suggestions: /fire - various fire based attacks.... *BrvFencer sets your pants on fire! /slap - Random attack targeting a single foe. Randomly chooses an item, and slaps the enemy with it, causing various effects and levels of damage. *Shinryuu slaps you with a pair of pants! You feel suddenly woozy. *BFMMCC slaps you with Shu! You fall over. /taunt - Command that has a chance of causing confusion, or will draw all enemy attacks towards BraveFencer Shinryuu. Works against a single foe. *BraveFncr taunts you with an old shoe. You are very confused by this. /op - Greatly weakened IRC op powers, left over from his time as an op in the chatroom. Instant death, silence, or temporary removal attacks with a random chance of success. Works against a randomly selected foe, very rarely it targets all enemies. My services as an old-schooled forumer from the EZBoard days (I'll talk about the great war against the pop-up-ites) and a chatroom member since it's creation should be an asset to the party, party member or not. Stats: HP - High (5) MP - Low (1) Str. - Moderate~High (4) (offset by relatively weak weapons) Agility/Speed - Very High (6) (Fencing requires one to be very quick) Magic - Low (1) Defense - Moderate (3) M. Defense - Low~Moderate (2) Wears only light armors. Because of his fencing ability, he is perhaps the fastest attacker in the game, just behind the possible thief and bard characters. Special Accesory possibilities: Amulet of pantsme - Relic of one of the great nusances of the halls of #8-Bit.Theater. Expands the range of /taunt from a single enemy to all enemies. Soul of Efnet - Contains the powers of all the denizens of the mythical land. Strengthens the effects of /slap. Flamer's Chatlogs - Documents the ultimate flaming techniques. Combines /fire and /taunt to create /flame (fire based attacks with the added chance of causing confusion or drawing all attacks towards Bravefencer). *BrvFencer flames all enemies with the molten wrath of the republican party! All enemies become very confused! *Shinryuu flames all enemies with a Linux Superiority rant! All enemies become enraged, charging Shinryuu! Edit: Updated with basic stat levels and armor info. Added possible character-specific accesory ideas. Updated the attacks a little. Edit Edit: I understand you probably won't be able to put in the command descriptions without wasting a lot of time, so don't worry about it, but damn, wouldn't it be cool? |

Okay... here's mine then.
mammothtank Stats: (Scale 1<5) HP - 3 MP - 1 Strength - 2 Agility - 5 Intelligence - 3 Stamina - 1 Luck - 4 I don't know if those are the stats you'll be using, but you get the idea. Weapon: Wooden Sword, Mammoth Tank Skills: (You're more than welcome to add more that you think would apply) Flee - Causes the entire party to run like hell from a battle. Will not work in certain situations, or if the party is traveling in my tank. Remote - Summons my tank to battle. Only works on the world map, on plains. The party can use my tank to travel on the world map. It's faster than walking, and it can cross rivers at shallow points as well as blast large rocks out of the party's path. Cannot travel through forests or on mountains. Though random encounters still occur, the tank does all the fighting. Tank HP - Lots Defense - A ton Magic Defense - Plenty Skills: Cannon Blast - Powerful beam of energy that vaporizes foes. Treader - Roll over a foe and crush him. AutoReflect - Automatically reflect magic spells. Howzat? |
Also, if some of the mods are to be bosses, than Drooling Iguana and Viper Daimio should be hidden, optional bosses. They tend to be in the background right now, not showing up nearly as often as the other mods. They should be gaurding some powerful stuff, though, as they are the two mods that have been around longest (save Kurosen, of course).
And Oster, just so you know, I updated my character profile above with stat levels and some additional info. Edit: Make that quite a bit of additional info. |
Alright, here's mine. Some of it will probably need to be tweaked, but who knows?
Name: Death Dealer (obviously) (On a scale of 1<5) HP: 4 MP: 4 Str: 2 Def: 4 Agi: 1 Int: 5 Sta: 1 Luck: 2 Weapon: Either a spear, or my "Death Dealer's Deck of Death" series of weapons. Armor: Wears mostly robes, but can wear light and medium armors as well with no trouble. Skills/spells: If the Deck isn't used as a weapon (most likely), it becomes a series of spells...I don't know how complicated some of these could be, but they're just ideas. Random draw - Draws a random card from the deck. 75% chance for damage, 15% chance for nothing, 10% chance for instant kill (except on bosses, of course.) Magic draw - Draws a random card from the deck, flipped over to it's magic side. 25% chance for ice, fire, lightning, or water spells to show up, respectively. Fate's practicioner - Draws 5 cards out and throws them at the foe. 60% chance to hurt, 40% chance to heal the foe. Also has Death related/status magic. Oh, and if I can get ahold of him, I'll have Whomper send you my already modified sprites that I've had used for Death Dealer before. |
You know, i've been thinking. We should have someone who's banned frequently be a recurring villain, like jr. koopa in Paper Mario, who gets a little stronger each time we fight him. And the excuse would be that after everytime we defeat (ban) him, he logs on again in a different form. And it could be funny as one time he'll come back as a hedgehog looking thing, another time he comes back as a dragon, another he comes back as a mech, and for humor he comes back as a chick and tries to lure us to our doom.
Also, I think kurosen should be like king steve, and whatever's going on, he just barks orders to get everything done from his throne. And puts priorities away from what's important, like Kurosen: "Hey you guys, crush the enemy, you, clean up all the overflowing threads, Shiney, ban every forumer who accidently posts twice and insult them heavily while doing so." Shiney: "Yes sir!" Kurosen: "And finally, someone bring me my psp!" I also think his sprite should be a mix of his 8-bit sprite and black mage's sprite, as Kuro = Black, So it obviously has something to do with his favorite mental child, black mage. As for my character: Name: PyrosNine (On a scale of 1<5) (actually I suck with stats, but pretty much a guy with low health, high magic, medium strength and strong magic and speed. and Bad luck though. Weapon: Alternates between swords and his handgun and a shotgun. Can use weapons from Anime. Some good weapons I've thought of are the GetOffma sword, lets him impale one enemy on it, and kick it off into another enemy, the armblades that can can be sprung like a hook shot, and the pyrosian masamune, that has stat strength as a sword, but instead increases his attack by a multiplier Armor: Being little more than a kirby in the beginning, he can only wear different hats and shoes, but when he's restored he wears metal jackets over a body armor and airforce pants. Possibly also gets teh rock Skills/spells: Flame cannon: Shoots stream of flame at enemy Nova: makes massive explosion. Supernova: makes bigger nova. PYrokinesis: simple fire spell. Summon: Ifrit: Can summon by draining half magic. Ifrit's Hp is based upon how much magic is used ( so if I have an Mp of thirty His hp is 15, but if my mp's 500 his hp's 250. Asheth: uses half magic too, by having another party member fan the flames higher while Pyros manifests the giant fire goddes Asheth in them. His contract with her requires that he have payment of lots and lots of icecream, so you need a sizeable amount of the stuff for her to help you. Baby Jeremy: Strange monkeyboy, uses up all magic, has random effects for attacks, like a 999 hit for all enemies, heals party, heals enemies, turns enemies into chickens, does nothing, turns party into comical versions of themselves. Has to be a difficult to find summon. BTW I need some help, I need someone to get me some final fantasy ish sprites for my human form. Cause at the moment I've got nothing, and I suck at art. Really. I'm basically looking for someone with spiky long brown hair, with a large black jacket over a white t-shirt and dark pants. And boots. Possibly maybe I could recolor someone else's FF style sprite of vash the stampede. I can take anyone elses's suggestions, and/or sympathy. |

(Add any you want, or subtract if you think that anything's overpowered) |

You can be highly vulnerable, vulnerable, neutral, resistant, or highly resistant to each of those types. Default status types are as follows: Death, Poison, Blind, Silence, Berserk, Confused, Sleep, Paralyze, Stun, Haste. Same dealy. That pretty much details your entire character, aside from appearance and what weapon/armor you use. Edit: By the way Oster, I believe you said you needed music in MIDI format for 2k3, right? I think there's a patch out there somewhere that lets you use mp3's. If you haven't already heard/used it yet. |

Could someone post advice on stat guidelines, along with tips on how not to over-power or under-power the character? I've never needed to create a character sheet before, and I want to do it right. I have an idea of what Skyshot's abilities, strengths, and weaknesses are, but I want to know how to do it right. Some other people here might also be able to benefit from such information. EDIT: Osterbaum -- on that topic, could you post a list of the stats that the game will use? Those sound kind of crucial. :) |

Since Oster wants to make phil_mike a character rather than Phil and Mike, we feel it's up to Oster to make our stats. Our only preferences are as follows.
Special Features: Favors fire magic (if we get magic. that depends on what kind of class you'd like us to be.) Dual Wielder? Yes Resistances/Immunities/Etc: Resistant to poison, confused. Highly vulnerable to sleep. Default weapons: Here's where we're going to be mean. None of the default weapon types suit us. If you can, either give us hand-to-hand attacks, dual axes, or an axe/club (five-iron) combo. If you can't make new weapon types, we'd be satisfied dual-wielding swords. |
Ok, here are my stats
scale 1-5 HP:2 MP:5 STR:2 DEF:4 AGI:4 INT:5 STA:3 Luck:2 Weapon: Scythe Armor: Black Robe Skills/Spells/Special Abilities: Immune to piercing damage, and 25% chance slashing misses due to skeletal nature. Animate Dead, Turn Undead, Raise dead, Preserve corpse, summon undead, fire ball. Special ability: walk the abyss (able to travel between earthly plain and underworld) Once a day Thanatos must travel to the underworld to feed. Failure to do so will result in tempory loss of magic, after 3 days away from the underworld he will die. Edit: BTW Oster, you mentioned theme songs needing to be in midi format, I have tons of midi's that I arranged myself or using sheet music that I've found. If anybody is looking for something you don't have, I'd be willing to try and write it out myself, though it might take a week or so. |
WEll, my class would be black mage or spell caster with an average attack.
Resistance:Fire magic, weakness ice or water. Resistant to poison, confusion, paralysis, death. Weak against sleep, transform (frog, small or whatever), and any other status affecting attack. |
