Trevor waved in an effort to invite the newcomers to join them. As he did so, he turned to Harry. "I don't know how well berries will satisfy your hunger. We should try to find some meat." Looking around, Alex noticed something. "That's odd... I just realized I haven't seen or heard any animals around here besides us. Have you?" He looked extremely puzzled.

"The forest looks too healthy for there to be no creatures here. They are most likely hiding someplace. We probably messed up their tracks before we thought to look"
|
Flora sighed. It's not like she didn't want company, but she felt that she never knew these people. A memory? Women's intuition? Still, she wouldn't be pretty wise to just go out there alone. However, there was the matter of her budding personality. Flora started feeling that staying with these wouldn't help her at all. Still, leaving them suddenly would be pretty illogical. Better to slip away at some point when their awareness was down. If she lets them see her when she flees, they might come after her...and likely get into any trouble she causes. Better to wait it out.

Patrick snaps himself out of a state of mild reverie and looks at the assembled crew.
"One brief question? What is this fixiation with finding meat?" Drawing only blank looks he continues down his unique tangent. "I mean, we've been here a few minutes and you've decided to celebrate by slaughtering things? Interesting choice...I mean don't get me wrong I'm all for a tasty cut of meat, but I'm thinking a renewable food source would be more convenient supply?" Looking at the now sparse berry bush Patrick recoils slightly; "Umm, question? Did someone already eat those berries?" |
"We don't need meat, but only so long as we're getting the right vitamins from the plants we eat. Out in the wilderness, that's kinda hard. We can last a while without meat though, yeah. As for one berry bush being a renewable source? Not likely, unless this thing is highly unnatural. Wouldn't put that out of the question, though, seeing our circumstances. And as for foraging enough food to feed all of us? That's kinda hard, and we would need to keep moving around so that we didn't kill off whatever it is we're going to be eating. On top of that, we would still need the occasional meat simply to make our meals large enough, completely ignoring the dietary reasons. On the whole, vegetarianism is only practical if you're sitting in the middle of civilization. Ironic, isn't it? A fad that was started because 'Well it's more natural this way' is not natural at all. Now, if anybody sees some tracks on the ground, point them out to me and I'll see what I can remember of that animal and how to trap it. I'll be looking for what plants we can eat. Anybody else think that they can help with the plants? Because if they can, I can watch the left while they watch the right and we'll find more that way. Move faster too."
Andrew scratched at his forehead which was itching slightly. His hand came away with another small chunk of skin. The patch felt scaly, and anyone looking at it would see a color both paler and greener than the rest of his skin. "Also, any theories what this rash is? I've got it on my neck too." |
OOC: Newb, you may be going too fast. It's not even the second day yet after all.
Alex and Thomas finally return carrying Cathy between them. Alex explains after he carefully lays her down and takes a moment to catch his breath, "It seems like the stress was a bit too much for her. On the plus side we found water and I'm sure I saw a bird or two on the way back here so there has to be something edible." He frowns as that reminds him of something. "Has anyone else tried the berries yet?" When no-one replies he turns to John and says, "To be on the safe side we'll have to see if you show any reaction to those berries." Alex had been thinking a bit as he'd travelled back and decided someone had to get everyone organised. He continues, "I think we should have everyone go look for some uh.. mangoes or coconuts or something. We should have two or three people volunteer to stay here to watch Cathy," Alex indicates her, "and... uh.." John provides his name. "So just pair off then I guess and meet back here in an hour or so. It's not like there'll be polar bears." OOC: Might work best if I keep the inactive people with my character. And Overcast, yes, the berries are poisonous. Fortunately, they'll only cause stomach cramps. |
Thomas took his stick from his belt loop, and hung it over his shoulder.
"I'm heading out for some meat. Follow me if you want. Just don't slow me down." He then walked into the underbrush, in search of some animals. He was headed in the direction of the watering hole. It would be smart to check for tracks there, and to follow them. |
Turning to watch Thomas go Patrick speaks;
"That just happened didn't it?" "He's actually gone hunting with a blunt stick? In the mysteriously underground subtropics, with a stick... I hate to say it but we may be down a companion soon..." |
Flora smiled and shrugged. "At least we'd get our meat, one way or another."
The looks Flora got made the smile rather short lived. "Sorry," she apologized. |
"Well, I thought it was funny." Chuckling to himself, Trevor turned to Patrick. "Well, what other choice would he have? Unless one of us has a knife on him, a stick is the best option for hunting."
He turned and looked up to the sky. "You know, I can't help but wonder - what is the weather like here? Is there a day and a night? Too many questions..." He trailed off. Finding a tree nearby, he sat down and tried, for all the good it would do, to think. |
