avatar help galore!

ok, this isnt about any avatar requests, but i was wondering if anyone knew how to get a picture i made in "paint" and then put it in my avatar. i tried some imageshack urls but it said it wasnt a valid PNG,JPG.

Save it as either a PNG or JPG. If Paint can't do that for you, try googling "GraphicsGale".

or google "the gimp." Oh, and to be an avatar on NPF, it doesn't need to be uploaded to imageshack or photo bucket. You can upload it directly off of your computer to NPF.

Actually, I never could upload an avatar straight off my computer. I got the same message Red Fighter's getting.

Red Fighter -- if you haven't already, right click on the image you want as your avatar and click "View Image." Try that URL.

By the way, I can save images in JPEG or PNG from MS-Paint.

First, when you created the image, you save it as a BMP. Then you open it again, and the you get the option of saving as a whole lot of different formats. I don't know if this affect image quality (I never noticed any differences), but it works for me.

i know how to bring normal URL related images into my avatar, but what i am talking about is getting an image i made in the program called "paint" which automatically comes with ALL computers. i cant click on "view image" or something like that..ill try saving it as a jnpeg or whatever melfice said..

In my experience, it doesn't matter what program you use.

Post the avatar and I'll see if I can make it work. If I can't, someone can.

All you have to do is change the .bmp to a .jpg. Paint automatically saves it in the correct format. And yes, a jpeg is lower quality than a bitmap.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Nothing annoys me more than the jpeg debris around images, especially when I'm trying to make collages. I have to go add that to the list of things I hate.

EDIT: I use .gif here, because the images I use here don't have more than 256 colors. I would personally use a .gif instead.

http://img205.echo.cx/img205/5407/theevilbunny6gm.png

and these are the options i get when i go into "save as" and look into the "save as type":

-Monochrome Bitmap(*.bmp,*.dib)
-16 color bitmap(same as above)
-256 color bitmap(same as above)
-24-bit bitmap(same as above)

i dont get any options on saving it as a jpg or anything like that..

EDIT: wow..i really feel dumb..i finally know how to make it into an avatar. here is how i did it. i hosted the image on imageshack. then out of options given to me, i clicked on the URL which was the "direct link to image". then i put it as a profile picture URL and it worked!
