Dodgeball.
I watched the film Dodgeball again on Friday night, while slightly drunk and very hyper. It's absolutely crazy. Watching it the first time, I didn't know what to expect. Watching it the second time, it's very corny at times, but still makes for quite a few laughs.
So. In response to the Pirates V Ninjas thread, I was going to put up a picture of Steve the Pirate. But alas, couldn't find any decent screenshots. However. I did find quite a few pictures of people actually playing dodgeball. Have you ever played dodgeball? Even if you haven't, would you play? http://huijts.student.utwente.nl/~ja.../dodgeball.jpg This picture had me in giggles. The purpose of this thread? The 5 D's. Actually, I lie. I want you to take pictures of yourselves with a ball and your 'team gear'. http://images.contactmusic.com/image.../dodgeball.jpg Need I explain more? DODGEBALL! |
Well, after me and a bunch of other kids at my school watched the movie we kinda wanted to start playing the game... Thing is, we didn't have the right kind of balls (pun not intended -.-) for it and the best place we could play it in was the school's small back yard (which theoretically has grass - it's all dead.) So at first we played with two old punctured basketballs, which are kinda hard to throw and hurt like hell because they wrap around whatever they hit, covering much more surface with their pain. But then some kid started bringing these two small handballs which were basically perfect for dodgeball (regardless of them being quite different from what was used in the movie.) Later on one ball was punctured beyond repair and one was lost so we kinda stopped, but now the school's bought some bigger, soft thin-rubber balls for the purpouse of dodgeball and we'll probably start playing again soon enough...

We played Dodgeball for gymclass on my old school.
We had two permanent teams and we'd play eachother when there was enough time left or when the teacher didn't want to do something else. Let me tell you, I was really good at dodging the ball. You learn to do that when you've got some bullies trying to hit you. Hard. In the face. Or... there. Anyway, I pulled some neat Matrix stuff in the good old days. I sucked at actually throwing the ball, though... |
At my house we've got a trampoline and usually the youth from my church comes over and we play something similar to dodgeball.. We may have actually invented a sport! =P
If there are 3-6 people only one person is on the trampoline when everyone else is trying to hit them with a ball (we use a volleyball). If there are 7+ people we have 2 people on the trampoline, and sometimes two volleyballs instead. The rule is to stay 10 feet away from the trampoline while throwing it, head and groin shots don't count. If you hit someone you're on the trampoline and they go down. If you catch the ball you don't need to go down and can throw it right back at them with a vengeance >=] If there are 7+ people it gets more complicated. There are multiple teams of two people (usually age 16+ is paired with someone under 16 to even it out a bit). If both people on your team are on the trampoline, every time you dodge the ball your team gets a point. If you catch the ball (both don't need to be on) and hit the person who threw it at you, you also get a point. Based on how many people there are it's first to 10 or 20 points wins. We did this last night after a guy's workout/bible study. Lotsa fun =P My Point: we call it dodgeball, even though it's totally different... It's still fun though ^^ |
Ah, dodgeball. In my youth, I was the shit at dodgeball. Of course, that was back when we were too young to really work out, so nobody was all that much stronger than anyone else. I'm sure now I'd get my ass handed to me, what with my lazyness making me a weakling and all.

Fun. I was the taunter when we played. The one that bravely walked forward, turned around, and stuck his ass in the air at the other team. Then herk jerked around all of the balls thrown at him (somehow, he didn't even know), and waited for the other team to get all the balls agian. Yeah, I was stupid, but I couldn't throw, so that was my way of having fun.
Always liked capture the flag better, though. But that's another topic. |
Back in my fledgling days, I was the wimp who got tempered easily but didn't take much to scare into submission.
Nowadays, I'm largely desensitized to that sort of thing, and I'm VERY agile for someone who works out as much as I do (i.e. NEVER). So I'd be fairly unhittable (Or if I did get hit, I'd probably catch it). My accuracy with throwing stuff is horrid, though. Quote:
Only difference is that there was no limit on how close the throwers could come, because the trampoline was one of those that had a 10-foot-high safety net, so their ability to shotgun it at us was severely limited. My cousin's friend and myself were on most often, so we'd often have little contests to see who could dodge/catch in the most dramatic fashion. He always won, because he's small and I was rather tall, which limited my ability to do graceful acrobatic feats. <_> |
I'm too big to dodge well, therefor i stand in the front, let them hit me, sit down, and peg them from the frontlines. It gets extremely interesting when the throwing lines get pushed back and your sitting in the center of the throwing zone with a ball... yeah, the dodgeball I play is kinda messed up.

Ah yes, Dodgeball. Nothing is more satisfying than beaning someone you hate in the head/balls with a red rubber sphere. God I loved that game, I used to be pretty decent at it. I was one of the middle players because I was very good at dodging, but I have tiny hands so I couldn't throw well unless the person was 2 feet in front of me, so I basically dodged and retrieved balls for the better throwers.
Getting hit in the head was not fun though, especially the back of the head. I remeber someone getting hit so hard from really up close that he had a concussion. I think that's why a lot of schools/summer camps don't allow dodgeball anymore. |
