Video Troubles

hey guys I just got a new computer and I formatted my old one without seeing what filters I had to watch movies and such on my computer.

I usually only use WMP and BSplayer, what filter should I download that wont bung up my computer hah, thanks

This should probably go in the Computer Help thread, but what the heck, I guess we can leave it here this time. As for your question, I'm told the VLC Player plays pretty much everything there is right out of the box. And it's free, too.

Mostly. But you should get DivX, Windows Media Player 9 and all the windows codecs for it. They help.

I'd add XviD and OGG in there, as well.
And stay away from Real, though most everyone knows that.

*gag* Even though DivX is a great player, be warned that it comes with spyware. I've been doing fine with strictly WMP and Quicktime. Quicktime is crucial.

MasterOfMagic 07-21-2005 08:19 PM

Well, when downloading anime, I've found that VideoLAN handles most of the file types I've come across. And those it hasn't.... haven't been worth the effort to find one that does :/

I used to use Divx, but then the spy/ad/whatever ware that came with it got annoying.

Actually, you're all wrong! The easy solution with almost everything from realtime to quicktime to avi to divx is Media Player Classic! :

ok I got vlc and bsplayer and the ac3filter for windows media player and I stillllll cant play this copy of fantastic 4 I got that says its mpeg 2, any other suggestions? when I downloaded it it came in a zip of a bin that had 4 folders, SVCD, MPEG2, EXT, and SEGMENT. I was hoping I could just play it in a player but do I actually have to burn it onto cds?

Nikose Tyris 07-24-2005 08:36 PM

if you can't play it in Directly into the player, at this point, I'd say it isn't really an MPEG2 file, but a VIRUS. Most people don't DL movies that aren't out in stores yet. basically, since it's illegal.

If they did it right, and it wants to be a DVD file, which it looks like, try burning it to a blank DVD disk, and popping it in then. DL PowerDVD and try and run it in that.

ahhhh thank you nikose I will try that right now

would is work on a cd r?
