I haven't played Contra III in a while, which is of course the best action game ever.

Of course, I've played Shattered Soldier recently and it's very similar (if not slightly better) so I guess I'm not too hard up for some Contra playing.

EDIT: Well, of course, Hard Corps. was good, but I never owned a Genesis so the one I always played was Contra and Super C and Contra III.

I've played through and beaten Radical Dreamers with multiple endings.

Details here.

I love video-games, and I get nostalgic too, but this also makes me think this "Mike Tyson is better than any modern boxing game" is mere nostalgic nonsense. Games have advanced--there is a big problem with over-commercialisation and the watering-down of products, however, much has been discovered and innovated in games over the years. Modern boxing games have vastly improved upon the mechanics of Mike Tyson, and it merely serves as a "remember those days" romp. Not that old games can't still be (gameplay) mechanically-sound, just that many have been deprecated. I don't see the problem with change.

Well, anyway. I'm replaying through Final Fantasy VI in japanese right now...V too, actually, started that before, but I'm switching between 'em.

Radical Dreamers is pretty neat. One of the charactors is a large blue haired wizard who isnt too friendly (WHO could that be?!?!).

You can get a translation patch at neo demiforce but you have to look elsewhere for the ROM.

And old games.... I love the old mario games and the ORIGINAL 8 bit EarthBound. That was never out in the USA. Look for it, called EarthBound Zero. Fun stuff

In the former case, Wolfensten 3d. I still have a copy, in box, with manuals WITH COVERS, on 3 1/2" floppy.

If we're talking about the latter, Black and White in my opinion was always a blast.

Old as in games of past generations. Dreamcast, PSX, all are fair to look at and say "I had fun with this game and it's one you should invest in"

I find my old game niche within the SNES era.

Secret of Mana. I just can't get over the fact that it was a brilliant fully multi-player RPG and hardly any games afterwards followed suit. My friend and I spent almost a year playing the game on and off before we finished it. If you've ever played any of the SNES final fantasy titles, try Secret of Mana... and please don't confuse it with the horrid POS, Legend of Mana for PSX.

Rock 'N' Roll Racing. Explosions, racing on different planets, a soundtrack featuring 'Paranoid' 'Born to be Wild' and 'Bad to the Bone', and more explosions. It's simple, fast paced, an enjoyable play and is a blast in multiplayer.

Metal Warriors. I've only played the ROM of this, but it's another great multi-player game (used it to pass the time in those high school computer classes that gave two weeks to do a 5 page power point presentation). Side scroller mech combat with hugely varied 'bot designs. Small fast quick ones, a spider-like one, one that flies, a slow-moving heavy-armor big-gun design, and more. Single player wasn't anything spectacular, but just playing multiplayer round after round with random bot and map selections is highly enjoyable

Then there's the old PC titles.

I heart Apogee and all they created.

Westwood too. At least, before they got devoured by the beast known as EA. There's nothing quite like playing the original command and conquer and stopping a grenadier rush by running them over with four harvesters

I also need to pick up playing Nox again. I wonder if there's still any CTF or NoxQuest servers up...

And we must never forget the SCUMM story system that brought us Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle, and Monkey Island. Damn you LucasArts for nixing the 3D Sam and Max remake.

I constantly find myself playing or even thinking about N64 titles. I don't think I'll ever get sick of Goldeneye, Zelda OoT, Mario Kart 64, or SSB. NES games also find their way back onto my TV once in a while. Super Mario Bros. 3 is a classic.

Speaking of NES, has anyone hear ever played Chip 'N Dales Rescue Rangers?? I used to watch the cartoon on TV. Even though it is a tv-to-game creation, the game isn't that bad.

And tetris, how could I forget Tetris? The game that never gets old.

...but ZOH MY GOD IT WAS HARD!

And on old games...Why can we forget the greatest defender of the galaxy?

Flamehead6544 07-28-2005 04:24 PM

i will stick to my 4 BB party in the original Final Fantasy. you want hard? theres a party with no magical support low defence, and a lot of free cash... all too often blown on revivals, cabins, and potions. well, at least its fun. that, and mystic quest. My brother and I have argued for years wether it is a FF title at all. anybody know?

Jagos 07-28-2005 08:13 PM

Square has known that FF would sell. Mystic quest wasn't a true FF title for other areas. It was a Saga Frontier game if memory serves me right.

Lockeownzj00 07-28-2005 09:16 PM

Oh GOD FF6 is so good...so definitely that. and 5 while we're at it. Let's throw 4 in the mix for good measure.

Yes, all SCUMM games shall be put on a pedestal of perfection. Why did Lucas Arts have to fucking cancel not only Sam and Max...but Full Throttle 2 as well?! Bastards. "Let's make more Star Wars games!" I'm thinking of a word that starts with s-e-l-l o-u and ends in -t.
