FFXI: This Post Contains Spoilers

What are: Psychoanima, Hysteroanima and Terroanima? At the bottom of the mini FFXI guide, there is a whole section of how Psychoanima paralyzes the boss, Hysteroanima blocks special attacks and Terroanima makes the boss runaway. The section has the terms in English and the Japanese translations.

What is Red Lotus? It keeps mentioning chains along with it. The following is an example: “Fast Blade-> Red Lotus-> Combo is better I think”.

What does the following mean? “Starting WS chain (MB: Liquefaction-> Fusion)”?

Another one is: All goods are cheaper than AH! Open to offers.

How bout: “shroom ON!”

What are Silent Oils?

Who are Shikaree X, Y, and Z?

Who are the Ark Angels?

Psycho/Hystero/Terroanima are used for fighting the bosses in Promyvion (Either the mission or ENM variations). One causes the boss to be intimidated so it cannot use physical attacks, one causes it to spam TP attacks that don't actually work, and the other causes it to run around in circles. Each Anima has a duration of 30 seconds. You get them by killing the various mobs in the three Promyvion's, they drop three different Recollections, which are Rare/EX. Take the Rec., trade it to an NPC in the Duke's Manor in RuLude along with 2K, and you get an Anima.

Red Lotus Blade is a low-level Sword weaponskill, and commonly used to open Liquefaction and Fusion skillchains. A skillchain occurs when certain weaponskills with certain elemental properties are used in the correct order; the skillchain causes extra damage and allows a caster to gain a Magic Burst bonus if they get their spell off in time. MB will see an increase in damage, or in the case of a debuff it will usually stick longer.

Shroom on, no clue. Never heard that one before.

Silent Oils are a disposable med that give the same effect as the Sneak spell. Allows you to walk by mobs that would normally aggro sound without being attacked.

Shikaree is involved in the PM's. I'm only on 2-5 though, and to my recollection hasn't appeared just yet.

Ark Angels are a group of five NM's you can fight for a nice reward, if you've gained Sky access thru the ZM's. Dunno how or if they pertain to the story, but if you can manage to beat them, you get your choice of one really nice lv. 72 Rare/EX earring. If you ever ran the Vanadiel Bench 2 program from around the time FFXI launched in NA, the five people all dressed in black it shows are the Ark Angels.

I might suggest buying the newest full version guide. It goes into a lot more detail, has full weapon skillchain, items.Much more reliable and written more for people that don't know what they are doing. (meaning its easier to read, not saying you don't know what you are doing. heh)

Well thanks, since I haven't played in about a month, I really should play a bit more. Is there a Mountain of any kind that has Dinosaur Bones as part of the trail and your character jumps up and down when you get to the top?

It was also in the guide.

In Hindsight 08-02-2005 09:32 PM

Hmm, the only one that jumps out that has the massive bone structures is Tahrongi Canyon, near Windurst. There's no real 'top of the mountain' there though, and I think the only way to have a jumping animation is if you're a Taru with some of the emotes, or the Dragoon's Jump abilities.

Actually, yes. Atohwa Chasm is almost exactly like that. You go through those jumps to get to Boneyard Gully. Nothing like watching level 75 "ubers" drop down and die viciously. Er, forget I said that.

Ark Angels are part of the storyline. Spoiler:They are the Crystal Warriors of old. They are called back byAnother spoiler:The duke of Jeuno. The final Zilart mission pits you against them. There are two versions of this. The first has a single party fighting the angels one at a time. This is relatively easier. The Angels have jobs, subjobs, and will use the 2 Hours off of BOTH, repeatedly; They're also under a permanent meditate. AA Mithra can also Charm PCs. AA Elvaan can oneshot a PLD or NIN with Spirits Within. Oh, did I mention that they use PC WS, and the AA Galka can self-Skillchain with Meikyou Shisui? Fun for the whole family. Anyway, the OTHER option is simply titled "Divine Might". One Alliance vs. all 5 at the same time. Upon victory (Assuming you win), you receive a special R/EX Earring. All of them are good for different people, and you choose. You can only ever get one, so don't drop it no matter what.

If you'd like Psycho, Hystero, and Terro anima, you farm in Promyvion, pure and simple. Different mobs drop different components in different Promys. I suggest the following, as it's simple:
Recollections of Pain: Dem
Recollection of Fear: Holla
Recollection of Guilt: Mea
You only have to kill Wanderers, but if you wish, Weepers are acceptable. While you can theoretically farm all 3 in one promy, you'd have to go to Floor 2 and fight Seethers, and Seethers are NASTY. You take the Recollection to Harith in Ru'Lude Gardens, in the Archduke's Quarters (Past Maat). Trade ONE recollection and 2k, you get an anima. If you don't want to level MNK, WAR/NIN, or SMN, you'll need anima, pure and simple. And even they'll REALLY want it. Have fun, see you in Lufaise ^_^

Thanks. But as I may have mentioned, not having gotten on for a while means i played for 2 weeks as a mithra and then left permanently. So I have no idea what you mean by farming...

Ooh yeah, I forgot about that one. Haven't been yet, as I haven't had much of a reason to go there... But I guess if I ever get around to finishing 2-5, I won't have much of a choice.

What's with all this love for Monks on Promyvion now? Is everyone really just figuring out that we don't suck because of the RNG adjustment? Woulda been nice 10 months ago when the expansion came out, hah...

Monks are pretty good dd's so i guess since the update they want them instead of rangers *for hundred fists*
im stuck on promyvia 2-5 too, which server you on? maybe we can try and team up for it, im on asura, name is Chille

In Hindsight 08-07-2005 10:09 AM

Shoulda emigrated to Remora when you had the chance! Everyone else from Asura did, it seems.

Monk has always been a top DD, and HF is indeed quite devastating on the Promyvion bosses. Rangers were nice for tracking the Memory Receptacles and put forth some great damage too... but certainly not required as many people still think.
