But BAB is a number representing how easy it is to hit the opponent, not how much damage is dealt. If you really wanted to represent a technique that damaged internally, I'd think it be, if anything, harder to hit with, but then do a lot more damage if you did manage to land a hit.

Oh, I thought it meant how hard you hit.

Well then, that's simpler. The Hyuuga's have better accuracy than most ninjas. Their Bloodline Ability allows them to see almost everywhere around them all at once, including through objects and they can see chakra points. The fact that they're Taijutsu specialists generally also has to be taken into account. The Gentle Fist technique they use allows them to make quick, accurate, physically weak hits, while doing lots of internal damage by using their own chakra to damage the opponent through their chakra points. Hyuuga's are rarely caught by surprise, and I don't recall off the top of my head many instances when one missed with an attack.

So the BAB difference does make sense from a accuracy-to-the-show standpoint. But it sounds unbalanced from a gaming standpoint. It'd be like, "Hi, I'm the guy who can't be ambushed, and can hit you all the time. Oh, and did I mention it doesn't really matter how hard I hit you, because I'm going to f*ck up your chakra with my more highly-trained chakra, which bypasses all normal forms of protection. Have a nice day!"

But I don't watch the show, so maybe there's some big drawbacks that I don't know about.

The only drawbacks to the Hyuuga's eye technique is that the user must constantly concentrate (and thus expel chakra) to use it. That, and you face looks kinda scary...

Guru did point out what I was trying to say: sure, the different classes/characters may be unbalanced, but as far as gameplay goes, that's no fun at all. From a serious gaming standpoint, there's no reason to not go with an advanced bloodline, otherwise you're at a disadvantage to your overpowered teammates.

There are simple ways to counter the Hyuuga's eye technique. One is simply being faster/stronger; if their body can't react then they're screwed anyway. Another is Genjutsu; controlling the mind's chakra flow to create an illusionary world. Yet another is being unpredictable with your attacks; specifically your jutsus.

Finally, the Hyuuga's are specialists, so they can end up to be pretty predictable, as well as unfocused in other areas of ninjahood.

There's also a blind spot to the Byakugan.

Info Spoiler: The Byakugan technically isn't full 360 degree vision. There's a blind spot from the back of the neck, I believe Naruto used this to defeat Neji. So, if you were to get behind a Hyuuga, they'd be hard pressed to see you, and due to the focus using the Byakugan requires they would have to expend more energy to look for your chakra. It's not a large weakness, but it's just enough to bring them down. Also, as someone said, I've never seen anyone break loose of the Mangekyou Sharingan when an Uchiha looked them in the eye.

Truce 08-19-2005 07:38 PM

Ehh...the Blind Spot isn't even a weakness. Or, it is less of one than what our normal one is.

How much does the Chakra of the Byakugan take anyway? I don't recall it being ever mentioned.
