Ender's Game movie
I'm almost done with the book Ender's Game I got to read over vacation. My friends at college raved about it so I picked it up at the airport. Excellent read. It recently secured a spot up there on my favorites list.
I figured a movie would be in production so I did a search and am reporting to you now what I have found so far (which everyone probably already knows about by now). Here are the two links with the best data: Updates Possible casting I can see Jake Lloyd as Ender, but Rosie O'Donnel as Anderson and Will Smith as Rackham must...not...happen. I'm digging the mock poster, though. |
After his excellent turn in I, Robot I would heartily endorse Mr. Smith in this endeavor. Rejuvenate another stale ol' franchise I say.
I believe the PA guys mentioned it awhile ago, although wether it was in comic form or just encased as a post-nuggest I am not certain. I know I haven't seen that poster before though, and I like. |

...yeah, slight problem with the articles you posted. Hitler intentionally slaughtered the Jews, as he was a bigot. Ender, on the other hand, destroyed a planet because he was lied to, and thought it was only a game. An utter apples-to-oranges comparison there.

This thread isn't about theories of what Card may have meant in his writings. Nor is this a "bash Card" thread. I did take a look at your links and they are very insightful columns, but it was a great novel and that's all that matters. We're not talking about underlying meanings, we're talking about the movie. Please keep the discussion to that.

Err, I wasn't trying to dissent, I just thought it was insightful since OSC is an asshat. Dragonsbane, the "hitler-conspiracy" connection aside, that point is addressed in the first article...maybe you skipped over it.
Anyway, Bob: I'm sorry, I didn't want to rain on your parade, but just saying from my perspective it'd be like...Passion of the Christ 2. I wouldn't ever be able to honestly respect it. I have read the book. It was cute, but OSC is very objectivist, which is unnerving. |
I regrettably am going to have to agree with Locke on this one. I absolutely love Ender's Game, as well as a few of the other books in the series. But, I do not really care for Card, and his books have religous overtones flowing throughout them. Even so, if someone doesn't like his style of writing or his personality for that matter, don't read his books.
Got off subject.....anyways, tt has been rumored for years that an Ender's Game movie was coming out and I personally don't think it'll go through. There are too many pitfalls when you think about it. Engage spoiler mode: I mean, how are you going to portray a 6 yr old murdering another child? And what about the Battle Room? It is an integral part of the book, involving zero gravity no less, which cannot just be edited out or ignored. Plus, most of the important characters in the book are, of course, children. I don't know many child actors out there who can convincingly play those roles. |
Um, reply to teh zpolerz:
There are ways to get younger kids to play such roles without being THAT young...Natalie portman played all three Star Wars prequels and she was supposed to be 14 in Ep 1. I know it's a weak comparison, but it's the easiest to explain. They'll probably get 10-12 year olds and make them look younger. |
I don't mind an Ender's Game movie, but I hope if there's any sequels, they follow the Ender's Shadow series, rather than the follow-up Ender books. Its just, well IMO after Ender's game Card just gets really, really weird. I especially don't like the, make whatever you want, pseudo-universe plot device that comes up in the 2nd/3rd book.

I totally agree with KC. The Shadow books were more interesting anyways. Far more interesting.
