Raven by Do As Infinity
Do to the fact that I can understand like no Japanese, I have yet to figure out some of the music videos I have.
Could anyone tell me the TV series or movie that was featured in the Raven music video by Do As Infinity? I really don't think this is a spoiler as this music video has been out for like a while now, So if possible, could someone tell me the name of the Series. The creepy spirals are just too cool. |
"Raven" is a song that was also from the "Yesterday & Today" single. But there is also a promotion video for it, and it is actually probably the best of the nine clips on this collection. Tomiko's expression, the way that she carries herself in this video, is to die for. She comes off as so sophisticated, presenting the story in a profoundly mysterious way. She's always great, but in this one particularly it just seems like she's dead on like, "Yes! That is what I'm talking about. She is hot!" And this song rocks too, so there's no messing with it. Maybe the best DAI song ever! In between all of this, we have some very odd shots thrown in. The shots thrown into this video come from the 2000 horror movie, "Uzumaki". It's a dark story about a small town that is full of nightmares. The atmosphere is quite spooky and very weird. There is definitely some kind of disparate relationship between the shots of the band and the story shots in this video, but it only adds to the video's profound impact. A very nice video overall, and it's not even a single.
--- Taken from some random web link, don't know if it's any help. |
Well, it does explain the freaky movie thing about it, I'll have to look up Uzumaki and figure out what the freaky spiral things were supposed to represent.

'From the land that brought you Ringu (The Ring) comes Uzumaki (sprial). The inhabitants of a small Japanese seaside town come under the influence of a strange force that causes an obsession in spiral forms. One by one, the townspeople fall under its spell.'
--- Ah, the power of the intarweb. |
I've never seen the Uzumaki movie, but the manga it was based on is excellent, please do pick it up if you're at all interested by the concept. The description RaiRai posted is just a tiny little grocery store free sample of the WTF JAPAN goodness inside. Junji Ito makes Jhonen Vasquez look like a 13-year-old girl who likes ponies, rainbows, and thinking about Jesus.

This is the story about how the people turn into snail right? If so, I believe I have the 3rd book somewhere in my Manga collection. I rarely trust purchases from the internet so is it likely that I'll find it in a local BAM or B&N? Or due to its age, will I have to go into an old book store to search for them?

You've never seen Uzumaki? Oh wow, I heard you say spirals and guessed Uzumaki, and I was right.
It's amazingly queer and absurd. My brother downloaded it like a year ago, we watched it, and I burned it for my Film teacher. He loved it. It's obscure, but very well done and unsettling. I highly suggest getting it somehow, all of you. I'll look around to see if there are places to get (irc, bittorrent), or if you can buy it. |
Most Barnes & Nobles don't seem to carry it in store -- not enough room on the shelves, I guess, what with keeping stocked all 500 volumes of Pinku Neko-Chan Love Love Shine that nobody will ever buy -- but if you ask them to get you one, they'll get one shipped in for free with no purchase obligation, so that might work.

I actually saw a manga entitled 'Spiral' at my local Forbidden Planet during my lunch break. I'm not sure how it holds up to the issue that Mash posted, I know the front cover is different, but I could look into it for you if interested. Also, my local FP stock Japanese horror movies. I may have to look into this myself, although I'm not much into scary movies.

Rai, neither am I. I can't play Resident Evil (GCN) for more than 5 seconds. I played the F.E.A.R. single-player demo and stopped about 5 minutes in because i couldn't handle it, and waited 2 days for my brother to get home from college to play with him. I'm afraid to play Silent Hill. I play regular games like CS and ET at night and cringe at 'bumps' in the night.
But I still loved Uzumaki because it was so surreal and clever and unsettling, more like mindfuck scary. |
