Solaris VII: Promising beginnings, part 2

(second verse, same as the first.)

Scott pulled back to a god's eye view of the battle field.

Here are the maps again. THis way no one has to look back at the first thread.

((I'll move from 1517 to 1315 at running speed. On map A))

"Need to take some cover and rest a bit." Razma said to himself as he pulled away from his attacker, hoping his Alpha strike would slow him down enough to give him some time to release some of his collected heat and reload.

PhoenixFlame 08-14-2005 05:33 PM

((Taking my turn 4, as everyone else has finished three. Choco here is on 4.))
((Walk backwards 3 hexes from 816 to 802))

Karen throttled her mech back, hoping to draw Sigil's Atlas and the Thunderbolt back into the field of fire of Kyle's Warhammer. She noticed the enemy Centurion had crossed into a good firing field for her LRMs, and twisted her mech's torso right to get a good shot.

He was in woods, but Karen thought she could get a decent shot at short range. Her missle tone clicked on, and she fired the mech's left LRM-15. Only 9 missles lighted up, and four impacted the trees, making way for the other five to fly through and find a soft location in the Centurion's armor.

"Got him Ryan. Pull back, we're gonna need Kyle for this." Karen said over comms. Her right LRM-15's reload status flashed green, as well as the pulse-lasers she had fired at the Thunderbolt.

((2 base, +1 for walking, +1 for shooting through woods, +1 for you being in woods, and +1 for you moving four hexes, for 6+ or better to hit. 8 for LRM-15 means that 9 missles fire. *Sigh* That really seems like crappy military equiptment.))
((6+4 = 10, hit. 3+2 = 5, miss.))
((5 missles hit 2... Center torso + critical, I think?))
((If so, 5+4 = 9, or 1 critical location. 1, and then 4 means a Gyro hit. C-torso takes 5 damage.))

Wolf99x 08-14-2005 05:58 PM

OOC: Better question is what happens to the missiles that didn't fire. also, I agree that sounds really bad. In all the novels and games, an LRM-15 would fire 15 missiles no matter what. I guess this is just to make things easier, rather than having all the missiles miss, some of the missiles "miss".

((Runs from 0714 to 0709))

BIC: Kyle kept his mech running at full throttle, and back into the stream momentarily.

When I come out, I'll be at perfectly zero heat and ready. he thought.

"Karen I'm about 600 meters away."

Squishy Cheeks 08-14-2005 06:19 PM

ooc: oh they fire, they just don't hit the target.

Wolf99x 08-14-2005 06:21 PM

OOC: yeah, that's what I pretty much figured. Very rarely in any of the BT novels does someone let off a salvo of missiles that all hit.

lazy man 08-14-2005 06:31 PM

OOC: Moving forward to 817. Phoenix is 2 hexes away and in short range for all the weapons in my B grouping (Mlaserx3, SRM-2x1).

IC: Adam cursed as two SRM-2s and two lasers struck his mech. The wireframe of his mech showed yellow on the torso and red on the right leg. This was bad. Still at a run, he continued on his way toward Karen, determined to keep going and keep the midline safe.

However, now Karen's mech was firing on Razma, and kind of distracted. If he could get a good shot off, it could even the odds of this fight.

When he'd come close, Adam switched to his B grouping and quickly aimed and fired. The volley quickly let loose, three bright lasers and two small flashes from jets, indicating the SRM-2 he'd launched. As they came close, he hoped his targetting computer hadn't gone out of whack after that one hit.

His hopes were answered as every weapon hit their mark. Two of the lasers and the SRM-2, which had lost a missle along the way, hit the left arm, while one of the lasers hit the left torso. It seemed to hit something, but he didn't know what. Thankful, he started talking to his team.

"Sigil, hurry up and keep firing on that Archer when you've reloaded. We've gotta try and even out the numbers. You, in the Centurion, keep trying to take out the Phoenix Hawk. It's their fastest mech, so getting rid of that limits their chances of getting the flag, hopefully."

He knew he was probably going to be tagged out after this, and he was thankful it was only a simulator. Still, Karen's mech had just taken a lot of damage, so that could probably do something. Of course, he would be a simulated pile of scrap if that Warhammer reached him, so he just hoped that didn't happen.

OOC: Modifiers and such: Running +2, Target moved 3-4 hexes +1, 6 is the target number.

Weapon hits: Mlaser1-4+5=9 hit. Mlas2-6+6=12 hit (critical). Mlas3-4+6=10 hit. SRM-2-2+5=7 hit.

Location: Mlas1- 4, left arm. Mlas2- 8, left torso. Mlas3- 10, left arm. SRM-2- 11, left arm.

Damage: 12 damage to left arm (rolled 7 on missles), 5 damage to left torso.

Critical #: 12 (Blow head/limb off / roll 3 criticals if hits torso(ouch, hit the torso)) (So now just to wait for Phoenix to make those rolls)

Heat: 17 - 15 (from heat sink) = +2 heat.

Yeah, just gotta confirm that thing on the criticals, so that's for when Phoenix sees this.

PhoenixFlame 08-14-2005 07:10 PM

((Ow! My poor beautiful mech! Anyway, you still need to roll on the critical hit table. Only a roll of 12 on that table ((Generally arm destroyed, head blown off, three criticals torso)) actually makes three criticals. It's not a general posting, just a second line for 12. Wha-wait... you actually rolled a 12? Great...))

"Holy freholy!" Karen yelled over the comms as the Thunderbolt's medium laser blasted into her mech's left torso, hitting her mech's 260XL engine squarely in it's upper position. While the rest of the weapons hit her already damaged left arm. The left arm's damage readout turned red, but not blinking red, so Karen knew she still had some measure of armor there. "I'm okay... Engine hit... Damn. At least it didn't hit the ammo compartment, or I'd be blown to confetti." She muttered to herself, "Stupid LRMs..."

The left torso's damage readout turned yellow, and a red dot showing the engine hit popped up on it.

"Critical hit, Engine compartment." The computer calmly informed her. "Engine heat sinks comprimised."

((3 and 1 = Engine hit, 5 and 4 = No effect, 5 and 5 = no effect. one engine hit. So glad that didn't hit LRM-15 ammunition...))

Inbred Chocobo 08-14-2005 07:24 PM

((I think I have to make a pilot check against a +3 to stay upright. The roll is... 10. Easily made.))

"Damn missles." Razma said as he was struck. One managed to slip in and hit his gyro, throwing him off balance. He manages to recover, then hears his orders across the comm. He replies "Right gotcha. It might be a bit difficult, I took a blow in the gyro but I'll manage."

((I'll wait for Nathano to make his move before I attack.))

Truce 08-14-2005 08:00 PM

((Not an actual turn, just some commentary))

He checked over at his lancemates condition, which frankly didn't look good. The Pheonix Hawk was engaged with the Centurion, while the Crusader had just taken a heavy blow from the Thunderbolt. The Locust may be down, but that was their lightest mech anyway, so their odds were still relatively even, and the Warhammer still hadn't closed the distance off to assist.

The fact that he was facing off an Atlas alone wasn't too comforting either. Still, he still had some time left before the Atlas' weapons finished reloading. He could at least hold it off for a little longer.

"If I keep this Atlas off your backs, promise you won't die over there."
