He chuckled softly, shaking his head, maybe getting too into his act. "Heh, you think that the past matters to us? We're runners, we take jobs, and we complete them. Unless you're stupid, you don't complain and you don't get picky. We have no rights, and the corperations don't care what happens to us, so long as they get what they want.
"If we make a mistake like killing the hostage, it won't matter who was stuck on the wall. You may not get a job for the rest of your carreer, or worse, get hunted down. "I'm a medic, it's my job to prevent or correct any problems fists or firearms cause, wether it's to save lives or the mission. I don't care if there are psychos killing for pleasure, teammates of mine won't be one of them. They are too much trouble to deal with. "I've seen bad things in my life too...in this world don't think you're the only one who's been through hell." He sighed, shaking his head. |
He didn't even note Truance. The kid was bluffing, and it was obvious he was trying to prove he was tough.
"You in or out girl? Care to join our small plan to form groups?" |
Are you sure you want to join them? Thay *are* going to die if the Ghosts find you again...
No. They won't. Not this time. These people are... different. She sighed and nodded. "Count me in. Does anybody have a plan for the future?" |
"Immediate, or delayed?"
|
"Amen to that." Conrad shrugged at Covenant. "Can't say that I can bring myslef to care much about anyone else's torrid past either. It will make a good story to put in the memoirs, though."
He didn't mean to talk to her like she was a kid, but he put his hands on his knees and looked Angela directly in the eyes. "Girl, we're teaming up right now, okay? I asked if you wanted to join me as I scout out some of these locations." He held up the map the suit had given him. "You can either come with me and a couple of other people, or join the good Doctor and Captain TellsHisPast." Holding up his hands in a sign of surrender to Covenant, he added quickly laughing. "Just kidding, chummer!" "Now, if you don't want to be left all alone, I would suggest getting into a group, savy? My invitation is still good." A big, pearly white grin. |
That man obviously thought he was bluffing, he could see it in his attitude. He didn't make a comment though, if this continued he'd end up shooting the guy. Oh, and since that man didn't seem to be wearing body armor he doubted that even he would have trouble, even at this short of a range.
Instead, he merely responded with a flat "I'm in." |
"Actually, before we do..." Cov's foot shot up behind him, hitting a knife that Truance had sheathed. It flew up into the air, and Cov caught it.
"I need to borrow this, savvy?" |
Suddenly Mendel blurted out "Get Cover!" But then turned red and said, "Sorry, I'm a bit on edge right now... Actually, I'm always a bit on edge, but regardless, my view is we need to get to a safehouse or something and settle down for the night. That whole battle was stressful, and some rest before we start getting involved in Chicago's problems that need solving through a runners special skills may be in order."
|
"Great! It's settled! You," He pointed to the doctor. "And him," Pointing to Covenant. "Will join up, and the young lady and I will scout some other runners and join with them! Great plan. Good job, Captain TellsHisPast!"
|
She turned to Conrad.
Looks professional, like he can handle himself. The other guy's a little flaky - might not be the most reliable person under fire. Looks like he might go berserk at the smell of blood too. "I think I'll follow you. If we ran into any trouble, it looks like Mr. Man over there," she pointed to Ark, "might turn it into a bloodbath instead. And I'm not into bloodbaths." |
