XBOX 360 Launch Price Revealed

Launch Article

Interesting decision to launch two different units, but welcomed. Of course, the one analyst is right; hardcore gamers are only gonna buy the $399 model. Still, I'm glad to see backwards compatibility.

hmm..actually, as long as hardcore gamers had an xbox, i dont think they would want to get the $399 version. the only REAL benefit i see besides backwords compatibility is the fact that you get an xbox live headset. those things are awesome AND handy!

also, whats up with this "xbox live silver membership"?? is it like one of those 3-month free trials for xbox live or something like that??

Bob The Mercenary 08-17-2005 09:18 PM

Well, that settles it. I'm not buying an XBox 360.

Or a PS3 for that matter, if the price is as ridiculous.

It's electronic entertainment. I don't want to pay a lease payment for it.

Blah, blah, blah, specs. Blah, blah, blah, prices. Blah, blah, blah, options. Show me the freaking games already. For a system that's supposedly coming out this 4th quarter, there's an extreme lack of solid game information.

$399 for a system is ridiculous, and the $299 package is worthless. I'm going to wait for the good package to drop at least $50 before I think about buying one.

I have the first X-Box, I don't need backwards compatability if switching between them is a simple matter of changing which AV cords plug into the TV.

If I do end up getting the 360, it'll the the $299 Model; Sony's gaming products whored their soul out long ago for extras and gimmicks and I sure as hell ain't gonna endorse the same for Microsoft.

Jagos 08-17-2005 10:59 PM

What "gimmicks and extras" are so different on the PS2 that Xbox doesn't have or hasn't matched?

Loyal 08-17-2005 11:03 PM

Sorry, meant the PSP. >.<

Ok, maybe the term "hardcore gamers" was misused. How about Xbox fanboys. That better?

As for backwards compatibility, to me its everything. Yeah, what Loyal2NES said about switching AV cords is true, I don't have the space in a dorm room to have both an Xbox and possibly 360 to hook up. How many people who have both a PS and PS2 still use the PS to play games?

Am I the only one here who is willing to pay up the ass for a console???

shiney 08-18-2005 08:24 AM

Yes, yes you are. I would hope. Cause 400 bucks for a farkin video game console which will be obsolete within 5 years is goddamn ridiculous.

How many gamers out there upgrade there PC on a more often timeline than 5 years? I know of a few who spend more than 400 bucks in a shorter timespan.

Plus, I guess I'll be the only one with bragging rights to a Launch date 360. Or as shiney would look at it, 'the only moron here willing to spend LESS than a single paycheck for a console.'
