Cyber Wars: Deceptions of the Past sign up thread
It's back and better than ever. NPF's longest running roleplay has made a dramatic return to the boards with a heart pounding sequel guaranteed (but not really) to knock your socks (or other foot apparel) off.
((If anyone wants to read up on the first Cyber Wars, feel free to search for the earlier chapters in the Closed RP Topics section)) First, a little background: In the future, technological advances had gone to such a great extent that there now exists a Cyber World, an exact duplicate of the Real World, only in CyberSpace. People can access the Cyber World via a USB port in their neck, once they are plugged in, their bodies are transformed into data and placed in the Cyber World. While in the Cyber World, they are the same as they are in the real world, with various levels of clearance being given to individuals to download certain ammenities (example: soldiers can download guns and ammo, while civilians can download money from their bank accounts directly to their pocket). There are also computer AI entities who live in the Cyber World, such as worker robots and security AI. One day, a security AI codenamed Mastermind decided to break free from his programming and become a rogue virus bent on either taking over Cyber World, or destroying it if he could not. That's when the UN decided to form the Cyber Force, a division of the army whose sole purpose was to take out Mastermind. They fought with all they had and eventually defeated him. It has been three years since Cyber Forfce Alpha, along with some help from some of Mastermind's own brainwashed First Order Assassins and Mastermind's viral brother Raven, defeated the viral entity. All of the members of the Cyber Force were given medals of honor and were recognized as national heroes. As a result of his help with fighting Mastermind, Raven was given a country in Cyber World that he now calls Cyber Eden, which is recognized as a small country. After the events that unfolded, they all went their separate ways and thought that they were rid of the threats that they had fought. But now, a new danger looms on the horizon. Somebody is striking at the Cyber World under Mastermind's identity. Nobody can confirm if it is really him, or just somebody playing the role of puppet master. So here's how it works: After the defeat of Mastermind, the Cyber Force was split up into multiple agencies across the globe, each under the jurisdiction of its' countries' leader. You are a member of any Cyber Force team that you chose from the list below: Cyber Force North America (Bases: Annapolis, MD and Los Angeles, CA) Cyber Force Europe has bases in London and Berlin Cyber Force Asia has bases in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Moscow Cyber Force Australia has one base in Sydney Cyber Force Africa has bases in Johanesburg and Cairo (one for the southern part of the continent and one for the northern part) Lastly, Cyber Force South America has bases in Rio and Santiago (Chile) There are a lot of bases to choose from, so no two people should be from the same base. And now for the character sheet: Name: Codename (if you have one): Age: Appearance: (height, weight, hair, eyes etc…) Rank: You can have any rank below that of Captain (older CF members will move up in rank, but write your old rank for now) Bio: A bit about your character, why they went into the CF, any talents they may have…try to keep your character as different as you can from others. Phew! A lot to read and digest right? The sign up thread will be open for about a week or so until I get up to school. Once I’m up there I’ll start up the rp. My bio will be up tomorrow, and if you have any questions feel free to PM myself or Wolf99x, my co-gm. |
Name: Major James "Wraith" Corus
Age: 41 Sex: Male Talent: Has an ethereal form, similar to the Twins from Matrix Reloaded. However, he can't heal while in this form, merely pass through solid objects. Weapons: Depends on the mission, but he rarely leaves the house without a good pistol and a set of knives on him. Preferred equipment is a Glock or Colt, and a finely sharpened set of steel. Bio: Wraith's history is fuzzy until the age of 17, when he became a Cybersurfer and eventually found a military agency that he signed in to. In time he became a proven assassin and infiltrator, one of the best in his line of work. It was during his military tenure that he gained his ghosting ability and the codename "Wraith", at the age of 31, and a reputation within certain circles for being dependable and trustworthy. That was how he gained assignment to the Cyber Force, when he became something of a minor legend in the war to defeat Mastermind. Following Mastermind's demise, however, his reputation failed to serve him well. He was dismissed from Cyber Force America and dispatched to lead the small, relatively insignificant Russian team, based in Moscow in what used to be KGB headquarters. In relative obscurity, he's since worked to hone his craft and his leadership abilities, eventually turning his small, neglected task force into something resembling an elite ragtag team. He was given the option to be promoted to Colonel, but turned down the offer to keep his rank of Major. *** Name: Scrya Age: 30 Sex: yes plz. I mean, Female Talent: Fighting skill beyond elite; talented with weapons or without weapons. Advanced augmentations grant her speed and strength beyond the upper limit for other nanoaugmentation systems, but her true strength is in her cunning. During the battle with Mastermind she demonstrated an ability to compress time and space with a powerful enough attack, thus creating a compressed shockwave adding to the attack. Has also demonstrated the ability to control time without the Cyber World, and dodge and manuever at "speeds" much faster than anyone else can move at. Her sister shares this power both in the Cyber World and the real world. She has a very mild empathic ability as well, but it relies on her use of her own augmentations to use it. Apparently she has Tia's powers, but in a very much weaker form. Military scientists continue to study the telekinesis phenomenon in her and her sister. Bio: Scrya once lived with her sister Tia and friend Shahdee in Chicago, orphans at youth. Together they all three lived a life of crime, typical for street urchins like themselves, until an encounter with Mastermind during a bank robbery changed them forever. Joining a cult dedicated to him called the First Order, they were eventually transformed into the Exalted, an elite group of followers bestowed with powers from nano-augmentations developed by Mastermind himself. Never trusting his own creations however, he built a virus into the augmentations with the intent to use it against them if they ever turned, but Shahdee discovered the virus and disabled it, foiling his plot once he tried to use it against him during his last battle. Two years after being brought into the First Order and gaining her powers, Scrya was captured and imprisoned in Riker's Prison in New York; the details of her capture and conviction of which are still unknown, but assumed to be linked to tasks she was carrying out for Mastermind. While imprisoned she was belligerent and refused to bend to her prison masters, and eventually killed a warden and several deputies in cases of self-defense. Unable to break her, they instead put her into solitary confinement, and conventiently forgot all about her. Not even the guards remembered who it was they were feeding after seven years of imprisonment. During the breakout of Colonel Jade LaFleur from Riker's, the power was knocked out and Scrya finally had her chance. She escaped confinement -- killing two guards and mulitple Death Squad in the process -- and managed to stow away aboard the Cyber Force jet as they fled from her. While onboard an arrangement was struck: in exchange for her freedom, she would help them against Mastermind. Nobody trusted her completely. Wraith was the first to befriend her however, and soon even Monk gained a certain respect for her, and she proved to be a key element in Mastermind's defeat. Following the war's end, she slipped into a sort of depression, because her lover, Eric, had been killed by her own hand... a few other things may have compounded the issue however, and added to the weight she carried. She left the Cyber Force and moved in with Tia, who still lives in Los Angeles, and was unable and unwilling to find a job and start a new life. She lives in obscurity now, going out only every once in a while to go grocery shopping or play basketball or football with neighborhood kids. *** Name: Tia Age: 29 Sex: Female Talent: Possesses an immense telepathic and telekinetic ability, and can manipulate matter and energy in its purest forms, or can manipulate objects where they stand. In the real world, she can even manipulate time about herself. Of all humans, she may be the most advanced. Is also augmented like her sister and friend, Shahdee, but her fighting skills and powers pale in comparison with Monk and Scrya. Her telekinesis is not linked to her augmentations, though it was awakened by them. Bio: Until she was inducted into the First Order, she, her sister Scrya, and friend Shahdee were just three homeless orphans living in Chicago, making their way. Once inducted into the Order, however, Mastermind eventually took them under his charge and granted them augmentations which gave them immense powers. Of this group of Exalted, Tia, Scrya, and Eric became the most powerful, and it was the augmentations that made Tia realize she had telekinetic abilities. She quickly learned that her abilities weren't linked to her augmentations though, which gave Mastermind something else to worry about. In all his time as her master however, he never devised a way to block telekinetic and telepathic abilities. She remained on Mastermind's side of the war until the end, when her sister spared her life in battle in Mastermind's base. Mastermind attempted to turn Tia against the Cyber Force during the final battle, but was unsuccessful. In the end, it was Tia who turned on him, and helped the Cyber Force achieve victory. Following the war, Tia moved into a home in suburban L.A. with her sister, and got a job working for the military in a research capacity. With her salary the two of them live fairly comfortably, while scientists -- and herself -- continue to try and unravel the mystery of Tia's powers. Much of her time, however, is spent consoling her sister, trying to help her adjust to life after the war's end. *** Name: Shahdee Banks * Age: 29 Sex: More times than she can count... I mean, Female. Talent: Espionage and stealth. Bio: Shahdee was the least powerful of all the Exalted, but she had a very unique talent: she was an excellent slicer, and had a wonderfully inventive mind. She developed the stealth suits that she and Tia wore, special equipment that allowed them to infiltrate restricted areas unseen, and was the one who developed Mastermind's cloaking technology, independent of the U.S. military's version. Her skills allowed her to be the first choice for any delicated spy missions, and she was never once caught or discovered. Such skill is matched only by Wraith's... except she's not half the fighter he is. Like Tia, she too remained at Mastermind's side, and has once actually died. During the great battle of Cyber L.A., Devin decapitated her with her own weapon, but Tia was able to revive her in time. The morbid irony of it all is that following the war, she and Devin became romatically involved... It was during their second encounter (Devin and Shahdee), that she changed sides. Devin finally convinced her to turn against Mastermind and help him gain entry to Mastermind's inner sanctum, but it was Mastermind's final betrayal that turned her completely against him. When he tried to use a special virus against them, she revealed that she had discovered the virus long ago and disabled it, allowing herself and Tia to remain untouched by Mastermind's deception. She wasn't a factor in Mastermind's defeat, however. After the war she decided that she wanted to be with Devin, wherever he went. Feeling as close to Tia and Scrya as if they were family though, she kept in touch, and it's through them that Wraith and the rest of the team stay aware of their well being. Quote:
*** Now, to jabber. I know some people said I went a little overboard last time with the augmentations and all, but that won't be happening this time. Wraith is still plain ol' Wraith, and Scrya turned off her augs and never turned them back on. Tia doesn't necessarily need or use them, and Shahdee is already underpowered. So that's that. Also, in case anyone wonders, Scrya and Tia don't have last names. ...Or they don't know them. Either way, they're just plain Scrya and Tia. :) Shahdee didn't have one either until she got married. |
Just one more thing, for a point of reference, the year is 2028 AD. This may not seem important now, but it will eventually.
Anyways, my 3 characters are all making return appearances. Name: Jason MacKenzie Codename: Wolf Gender: Male Age: 26 Appearance: 5ft 10in tall, 148 lbs, spiky mop of blond hair, blue eyes, medium build Rank: Colonel (Retired) Bio: Orphaned by a terrorist bomb just before graduating High School, Jason managed to get into West Point. There he met Kaitlin Vong, and a strong relationship began to develop between them. That relationship was shattered in early 2020 when the government in China collapsed under years of corruption. Jason and Kaitlin were part of a West Point training cadre sent along with UN Peacekeepers to the war torn country. the cadre was ambushed by Mastermind's then-fledging army, Kaitlin was turned by the AI, and Jason was left wounded and the sole survivor of the attack. Forced to outrun Mastermind's "recruiters", Jason adopted a new name, Wolf, and eventually resurfaced in Australia, as a mercenary working for Captain Andrew Barton of the Australian Special Forces. There he honed his marksmanship skills and applied that skill to killing as many of Mastermind's cronies as possible in his quest to find and save Kaitiln. His quest took him across the globe and landed him in the employ of many agencies, such as MI6, the RCMP, Japan's ISDF (Information Self-Defense Force) and Kinght Industries. He fought Mastermind's army on both Real and Cyber fronts and destroyed them wherever he could find them. He also managed to free an AI, Beowulf, and a mysterious fighter, Monk, from Mastermind's grip. His actions grabbed the attention of Colonel Jade LaFleur, who recruited him into Cyber Force Team Alpha. Eventually he was made Executive Officer, and was promoted to Major. It was during this time that he finally managed to find and rescue Kaitlin, who joined Cyber Force as well. Wolf was promoted to Colonel after Jade was sent to prison by General Kreish (deceased), and it fell to him to lead the team for 3 months. Eventually, he freed Jade from prison and got her name cleared. From then on, they shared command of the unit until Mastermind was defeated. After retiring, Jason and Kaitlin got married, and now they live in upstate Massachusetts. Supplemental: Jason has been augmented with experimental nanites, that enhance his strength and agility. His marksmanship is nearly unparallelled, and he also has a bit of hacking experience, as well as piloting. He also has above average HTH fighting skills, mostly due to a unique fighting style that mixes many disciplines including Kendo, ninjitsu, and karate. Although he prefers using guns, he also has great skill with a katana. *** Name: Kaitlin MacKenzie (maiden name Kaitlin Vong) Codename: Phoenix (I never got a chance to use it, but this is what it is) Age: 26 Appearance: 5'7", 110 lbs, long black hair, green eyes. Rank: Commander (retired) Kaitlin is the daughter of Chun Vong, president of System Defense Incorporated, a company that makes numerous defense and anti-virus algorithms for the Cyber World. Kaitlin had decided to join the army rather than immediately get wrapped up in the family business. She met Jason at West Point, but in 2020 was captured and brainwashed by Mastermind. She spent 5 years a prisoner of her own mind until Jason freed her. She joined Cyber Force after being freed, and was given the rank of Commander. After Mastermind was destroyed, Kaitlin left Cyber Force with Jason and they got married. Seems oddly sudden, considering the giant gap in their relationship, but she is enamored by his devotion to her, plus the fact that he refused to accept her as lost for 5 years, never giving up the search. She and Jason have both had a couple brushes with death, but each time the other has been there to bring them out of it. Supplemental: Kaitlin also has been augmented with nanites. She is very adept at throwing ninja stars and knives. She also has above average martial arts skills, mostly in shotokan karate, but also a couple sword styles as well. *** Name: BWF-978 Beowulf (more commonly, Beowulf) [Former Designation was RAC-005] Age: 10 years Real Time, 30 Simulated AI years Appearance: 6'4", simluated 160 lbs, Gray and black fur, gold eyes. Beowulf used to be an AI for the Royal Army in Britain, until Mastermind got to him and reprogrammed him for evil. Fortunately, Jason MacKenzie managed to reprogram him after a fierce battle. Now Beowulf serves his friend in whatever capacity. In one instance, he even sacrificed himself to save Jason's life during the battle at Mastermind's fortress. Fortunately he downloaded himself into a backup shell and survived. Although about 80% of AIs take on a human appearance, Beowulf is a little different. Instead, he is an anthropomorphic Timber Wolf. Supplemental: Beowulf is a little more free-willed than most AIs, mostly due to Jason's reprogramming skills. Unique Abilities: Berzerker Claw: Since his new shell is based off of the Berzerker variant that Mastermind had stored, Beowulf is capable of using the powerful claws built into that mode to rip through things. Very similar to Wolverine from X-Men. Only downside is that using too much can corrupt his programming, and he has to go offline to repair it. Pack Leader: Beowulf was initially programmed as a tactical AI. This is very useful as leser AI soldiers will follow his command and take orders from him should they become separated from Central Command. "Rollin Hand" Mode: Beowulf can alter his appearance to a degree. One time he was able to disguise himself as a Coyote clone, and another time he was able to assimilate one of Mastermind's agents in order to infiltrate the AI's base. This mode is named after Rollin Hand, the IMF's Master of Disguise from Mission Impossible (the TV series). |
Name: Devin
Codename: Wrath (just changed) Age: 36 Appearance: A tall, rugged man with short black hair and a neatly trimmed mustache, Devin is not overtly muscular like many special forces troopers, but he is wiry and tanned. He walks with a spring in his step, and his face, although carved in stone, usually has a faint smile on it. Rank: Captain (retired) Bio: A former Navy SEAL whom transferred into Cyber Force after his unit, Red Cell, was subverted by Mastermind, Devin was part of the team who took the malicious AI down. After that, he retired to a small town to take up teaching. Upon hearing of the Mastermind impostor's activities, he was recalled to active duty, and he brought one of Mastermind's First Order assassins, Shahdee, back with him. (This is crappy. I need to get familiar with the world again. I'll go talk to Zephie about it then post an updated version later) |
Name: Jade LaFleur
Code Name: None (Hey if you're a famous cyber-hacker who gets caught and thrown into th emilitary, everyone's gonna know you) Age: 26 Appearance: 5ft 9in tall, 125 lbs, Green eyes, Silver waist length hair. Rank: Colonel (Retired) Bio: Jade is the daughter of a military family and an only child, her father working for the Real World goverment. Jade grew up mostly alone due to moving around so much. As she reached her teens, Jade turned to hacking and began a life of cat and mouse wth the authorities which eventually ended after her own parents turned her in. She spent most of her subsequent adolescence in Juvie and would have been sent to prison at the age of 18, if not for a deal struck with General Kriesh, binding her to serve in the army instead. She quickly became the leader of Cyber Force Alpha after her hacking abilities had been discovered to be on par and on good days superior to that of Mastermind. During her enlistement, she was deemed unsuitable to lead and thrown into Riker's Island prison unjustly. Wolf broke her out and she shared her command with him evre since. She also developped a romantic relationship with Monk, spurred by her desire to help him regain his past memories and not let him seep into a bout of eternal depression. After defeating Mastermind, Jade's contract with the amry was lifted and she was freed. She married Monk and is now living in Montreal, Quebec. Supplimental: Jade has also been augmented with nanites, so her strength and agility is enhanced. She is an unmatched hacker with a strong hand-to-hand background (stronger now that she and Monk are married) as well as a pretty strong ability with guns, usually preferring something that has a wide spray of fire so she can hack while she shoots. She can also use a sword with skill. She carries with her a custom PDAP that she built herself that she can plug into her neck and mentally hack with. |
Im going to post later, but for some reasons I can't right now, I wish to take the base in tokyo.

Name: Devin Banks
Code Name: Wrath (Recently changed) Age: 36 (I forgot his previous age and I don't have his bio on file, so he's 36. Nyah.) Appearance: 6ft 3 in tall, 195 lbs, brown eyes, neatly combed black hair with a trimmed moustache. Rank: Captain (retired) Bio: Devin occupies an interesting position in Cyber Force, being the newest member of the original team that took out Mastermind. Prior to his enlistment in Cyber Force, Devin was a Navy SEAL, whose disregard for authority and direction caughe the eye of the then-CO of Seal Six. As a result, he was channelled into the National Security Co-ordination Team, AKA "Red Cell". Their purpose wwas to break into Navy installations, steal their valuable data and equipment, and generally raise hell, in order to both test the security of said installations and to devise countermeasures against possible terrorist incursions. Unfortunately, after Red Cell fitted its members with direct neural implants, they were subjected to hacker attacks by Mastermind, who nearly subverted all of them. Devin was the only one who proved resistant to mental control, and Mastermind, wanting to test out his new toys, sicked the rest of Red Cell on him. Devin was forced to kill these people, who had sweated and bled and fought alongside him, in order to survive. Naval Intelligence Services wanted to lock him up and throw away the key, but thanks to his contacts in the system, he evaded their dragnet and went underground, surviving on caches of resources Red Cell had salted away in order to operate internationally. During his search for the identity of the one who ahd driven Red Cell mad, he caught wind of a unit whow as working to take Mastermind down, and without a second thought, he volunteered for it. The rest, as they say, is history. Devin was part of the team who took Mastermind down. Following the AI's destruction, he took Shahdee away with him to a rural part of the United States to settle down as a married couple. Thus far, Devin's a teacher at an elementary school, while Shahdee's learning her best to be a dutiful housewife. Now that news of Mastermind's revival has begun spreading, it seems they may be driven back to the anvil of war on which they were forged... Supplemental: As a former Navy SEAL, Devin is fully proficient in armed and unarmed combat, and while he specializes in no weapon in particular, he makes the maximum use of every tactical advantage he is offered. He's recently taken up escrima, or, as he calls it, 'the Filipino art of beating people to death with sticks'. It strikes him as interesting that escrima techniques are that much more deadly when used with paired cavalry sabers, which he's become fond of recently. Devin volunteered for experimental nano-augmentation during his stint in Red Cell, and he's continued the program even after leaving the military. He's recently volunteered to test a series of sensory implants and speed enhancers, with satisfying results. |
