Closing time for Squidi

I was cruising around the "Sword Waltzer" website, and I got to the links page. Well, some morbid curiousity took hold of me and I clicked on Squidi's link and found out that his site was closing.
I felt relieved when I found this. I never looked into Squidi too much, due to the horror stories I'd been told, but his (as far as I know) sudden abandonment of his fans just shows how little business he had being an entertainer. At least he went out with one last insult to every one who looks at his page.
Squidi was a subject of much emotion on this board, so I'd like to know how folks feel about this. Don't be too cruel now.
EDIT:I reviewed my post, so I'm gonna try to nip a possible misunderstanding in the bud. The last sentence of the second paragraph isn't ment as an insult to Squidi's readers; I just thought that his last news post was a fitting set of last words for a man so into insulting his readership.

Loved the comic, was more or less indifferent to Sean himself. He had a lot to say, politics-wise, and was always good for a thought-provoking rant. I'm sad to see it go.

It sounded (and was) like people were being asses to him. I'd get fed up with it too.

He can go bury his head in the sand for eternity for all I care. He was an idiot who thought he held the keys to the internet with his little comic. He could be talented, but far, far more often he proved he was just a complete douchebag with no civility and an ego trip the size of the moon.

My thoughts: go to hell, Sean.

I never read his comic nor wanted to do so.
I only know about Squidi via the various little debacles he helped create and inflate, such as getting himself banned from here.

I wish him luck if he comes back to the Internet, even as a different persona, and also think it is a shame that people posted personal information about him/family. But I won't miss him or his melodrama.

Squidi's comics where sometimes funny and his political comments where often good but he seemed to think that the Internet and other comics owed him a favor and needed to respect him instantly.
he almost asked the other comic artists to hate him and often
took things way to far.

i don't mean to go picking at old scars, but when was he a member here? i'm guessing back in the TWC days?

Krylo 09-03-2005 08:06 PM

No. He made a membership during the thing with Penny Arcade to get involved in a discussion about it. He acted like an ass and Brian banned him before things got worse than they were.

What exactly was the issue between him and Penny Arcade, again?

I read the comic, liked the first series, but thought the second one was grim and rather boring after they skipped forward in time, had undead ruling everything, etc.

My thoughts? Talent with comics doesn't necessarily make you infallible, nor does it make your opinions any better than anyone else's.

In a nutshell? Someone used modified versions of sprites Squidi created. He decided to tell them to stop illigitimately stealing his artwork, when it wasn't for anything profit-based so he was stupid anyway. They were being used for avatars on the PA Forums. Then, when nothing happened, he contacted Gabe at PA in an attempt to stop the users. Gabe said, "Uh...what's the problem?" and it turned into a huge debate. Overall it became a Penny Arcade Fans Vs Squidi Fans. It looked alot like Germany Vs Poland.

I think Gabe and Squidi both were being stupid during the whole thing. Squidi insisted Gabe owed Squidi a favor for being a 'fellow webcomic' or somesuch, and Gabe kept making newsposts - on the public website, to everyone - about what Squidi was doing.

Naturally, PA fans started insulting, flaming, bashing, etc-ing squidi, and he's had a buttsore about it since. Just read his blogs.

Moving on, I stopped reading squidi a while ago. He used to be funny, often times on sincere accident. It was a great comic, really, but after the first season and that whole thing with Fluffy the Vampire, everything went downhill. He started losing readers because he was turning everyone's enjoyable humorous webcomic into a partially-hand drawn, barely funny, and overall lousy webcomic. He tried to turn his sprite based comic into a drama.

A DRAMA.

I'm not sorry to see him go. He already was gone.

EDIT: After reading his website, I'm really shocked. I can't believe suqidi would be SO immature as to basically go "I'm closing down squidi. I don't want to do webcomic buisness anymore. FUCK YOU ALL! YOU'RE ALL FAGGOTS!!! I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT MY READERS ANYMORE........NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Doesn't deserve any further attention. Closing.
