#592: "Lies are all I have, really."

I had fun with this one. I had the concept for it last week, but all of Black Mage's lines came out of nowhere this morning when I was writing the script. I don't know if I hate him for that or not.

Truce 08-29-2005 11:02 PM

...dear lord, BM's puns are almost as bad as Fighter's. Which, of course, make them even funnier.

Edit: By the way, what in the world(s) did Fighter do while he was missing? There's always something new being added to his story...

Fenris 08-29-2005 11:03 PM

Red Mage becomes more and more like Thief every comic...
Black Mage: He's more passive than he used to be, it seems, at least to me.

I love your character development, Brian.

Red Dragon 50 08-29-2005 11:09 PM

Fighter: So after I attacked cobra commander, JESUS CHRIST SHOWED UP! and he said "Fighter. You are the one" Which eventually led to the decepticons invading earth, now after they showed up THE EMPIRE STRUCK! and they started sending out there storm troopers and I had my swords and they were all like "AHHH HIS SWORDS ARE THE SHINEYIST THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN" and they all died and then the president gave me a key to the EARTH and Collenal Sanders was there. Whichs leads to my point. I'll have ham.

edale 08-29-2005 11:24 PM

this thread should have been titled "How's THAT for a PUN-chline?"

SnoopyG 08-30-2005 12:28 AM

I love the effects u did to Ranger on the second row of the comic

BigGator5 08-30-2005 01:13 AM

*Turns off lurker mode.*

I am rarly moved to post here, but this was one of the funniest comics you have done in a bit Brain. The exchange between Fighter and Thief had me LMAO.

edale, I would have name this thread "Lies and Vaudeville".

That whole second row was great. It was like 3-D... in 2-D...

BM and his terrible puns of doom. I swear, everytime I hear one, I bet a puppy dies.

Staizer 08-30-2005 02:19 AM

I guess I really like killing puppies then . . .

I wonder what Crodevillian Team thinks of this, being connected to Red Mage and all.

Desmant 08-30-2005 04:27 AM

I have never known somebody who enjoyed being stuck to a tree with arrows so much. That Inuyasha bastard is a damn whiner and should learn a thing or two from BM.

Trixbeat 08-30-2005 04:40 AM

The arrows must have had a secondary effect of causing the victim to make bad puns :P. Realised how quite a few characters have changed over the last few comics?
BM starts using puns, RM becomes thiefy, Ranger suddenly became smarter. Sarda must have been bored.

EDIT: I also liked ranger's "3-D" sprite. It's cool how some pixels are larger than others.

Chaos Sepher 08-30-2005 05:23 AM

Advice to Black Mage:Please, Leave the bad puns to Dominic Deegan.

Skyshot 08-30-2005 06:22 AM

Ranger's arm's bound to start getting tired.

Also -- good grief, those puns. They make me weep.

ElfLad 08-30-2005 11:13 AM

Despite being more Theify, RM's CHA appears to be as low as always.

ZAKtheGeek 08-30-2005 12:20 PM

So, what'll be ranger's beef with the map? Perhaps he's already been to the endless sea of eternal nightmares (or whatever) and knows there's nothing there, other than eternal nightmares?

kam_islash 08-30-2005 12:32 PM

Prolly something Inane....

"A zillion is not a number., perhaps you meant billion?"
"Yes"
"Fair enough, good day to you"

Admiral_Kelly 08-30-2005 02:24 PM

That would make sence.

Oh, and I'm loveing the Red Theif Mage Phenomenon. Do more!

Not to mention that St. Sebastian.

I don't even want to know what BMG thought of all the puns. The mere thought makes me quiver.

Red Dragon 50 08-30-2005 05:51 PM

Well Black Mage kinda arrowed me right there along with havein a little bit of a wooden proformance.

talse 08-30-2005 06:52 PM

i really don't see the redmage=theif vibe that people are trying to sell here. true, redmage is doing more trickery, but he's been lieing for a long time now, remember elfland? dwarfland? earth in general? the guy sells more dead horses then the ominous rigor-horsis selltron 5000. true, they have a much higher probability to work when theif works with him, but lies have always been what redmage has got.

Uselessinformation 08-30-2005 09:27 PM

what was the line a few comics back? "Red Mage will convince everybody he knows what he is doing just long enough to get away with it" ... something along those lines?

PyrosNine 08-30-2005 10:40 PM

And the fact Red Mage doesn't let others see his Dice rolls? Or the fact that he cheats to make it so he has whatever stats to do his required job? Or that RM's big on getting god powers without much effort?

shiney 08-31-2005 04:31 AM

The rigor-horsis selltron 5000?

Madness! They told me they weren't marketing it!

I always thought another pun that wasn't bolded was the bit in BM's last speech bubble, could have said "hold that against" you guys.

MetalPsycho 08-31-2005 06:24 AM

The puns. The PUNS! They burns us!

Anyway, Red Mage has been a liar and a desciever since day one, dispite his low charisma score. He's gotten away with so many lies that I'm sure the laws of physics have either put a hit out on him or just stopped listening to what he says. One day, RM will just float away.

Red Dragon 50 08-31-2005 10:27 AM

Oh... you mean like THIS

MetalPsycho 08-31-2005 05:29 PM

Yea, something like that.

Dark Assassin 08-31-2005 06:25 PM

In the name of all that is sane, Black Mage really needs to cool it with the puns. I think the comic was rather well done. But the only thing that confused me was why did RM suddenly wonder where Thief was? Was it so he could help RM talk his way out of it, or was it Thief who gave them the map or.....?

Kurosen 08-31-2005 06:30 PM

I'm guessing with Fighter and Thief, Red Mage would have Ranger out numbered since Black Mage has been taken out.

Dark Assassin 08-31-2005 06:42 PM

Maybe. But if Berserker found out what was going on and went insane again, then I think it would be game over for them.

Truce 08-31-2005 08:02 PM

Ehh...Fighter's the most badass fighter of them all. He never dies (or stays dead, anyway).

I would put Beserker on the same level as Black Belt. More powerful than Fighter initially was shown to be. However, Fighter's swordchucks and fire armor put him on the same kenshido level as Kari, a six armed half-snake demoness of fire. Plus, I don't believe Beserker's rage could match up to Fighter's loyalty to Black Mage.

Besides, the Light Warriors team work comes through when it matters.

SageOfShadow 08-31-2005 08:35 PM

The ingenius stupidity

no doubt Red Mage would redirect his stats to creating some sort of plan of unknown power... but really it wouldnt work too well fighter would probably need white mage to heal his arms as he uses his sword-chucks against berserker, no doubt theif would trick rogue and ranger against each other(cause hes like that) and blackmage would complain about cleric smaking him with either the healing shiv or a staff(while pinned to the tree).

Just one thing, Fighter's already proven that he can wield sword-chucks without hurting himself.

SageOfShadow 08-31-2005 08:49 PM

ok then ixnay the white mage part, fighter could take on berserker with sword chucks, because they are awsome!
