Good RPGs

I'm just curious, what do you people think are some good rpgs? I would assume that we all like the final fantasy series, but what else out there is good? I actually like playing Champions of Norrath for my ps2.

Ys: Ark of Napishtim was pretty good, the story line it decent, but the voice acting seemed a little forced, but that is easily overlooked.

Summoner and Summoner 2 are pretty good as well.

Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger are some of my favorites besides the FF series, as is Star Ocean: The Second Story, and Breath of Fire III , which is one of my all-time favorite games, period. BoF III, though, is harder than all get out to find nowadays. >_<

Skies of Arcadia and Grandia II, duh.

Toastburner B 08-31-2005 12:46 PM

Shadow Hearts, and Shadow Hearts: Covenant.

And...hopefully...someday...Shadow Hearts: From the New World.

Before it's forgotten, Lufia and Lufia II. Even though II is a lot like Pokemon with the monsters, that Ancient Cave was evil...

I gotta get back into Fallout though. It's good but damn... So many little things that are different when you're used to consoles.

PyrosNine 08-31-2005 03:15 PM

Lufia is good, but so far my favorite has been Tales of Phantasia.

What was even more pokemon was Lufia 4 for GBA. You could capture enemy monsters and have them fight for you, and guess what? You had to buy special "balls" to do it. Oh well, at least Dekar was in it. Dekar be da man! (I missed not having him for the ending of Lufia 2. BTw, wonder if he ever got funky with Tia, the girl who leaves halfway through the game and is never seen again, and on a sad note.)

Also I loved the Golden Sun Series. Wish you could take game saves from one final fantasy game and use them in another for extra goodies!

Edit: Upon reading my already sent post, I've become aware I've had too much sugar. My bad.

Tales of Phantasia and Lufia II were indeed great. The first Lufia was, to me, kinda mediocre.

Dragon Quest V was surprisingly good, although they should have adapted more to the SNES than a simple multi-function button. Then again, I suppose it wouldn't be Dragon Quest without that menu box.

Seiken Densetsu (3) was fun and had a really high replay value.

And of course, Final Fantasy V was my favorite on the SNES, followed by Breath of Fire II. Gotta have those two in there.

Where to start...

SNES
Earthbound: truly a gem, one of those rare RPGs that you just have to take your time and talk to everyone.
Breath of Fire: Way oldschool, but still worth it you can play it.
Breath of Fire 2: I love this game's story. St. Evans so looks like Jesus.
Soulblazer Series: If you have not played this series, smack yourself. Now. Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. Terranigma is one of the best games you will ever play.
Romacing Saga 3: Have you ever played Saga Frontier? Like that only with SNES sprites.
Super Mario RPG: Only game wher Bowser is a good guy. Nuff' said, plus don't forget Geno.

PSX
Xenogears: Great game, awesome story. 2nd disk is a little rushed and incoherant at times, but it really is a good game.
Final Fantasy Tactics: I have a file on this game with 230 hours. That is all I am gonna say.
The Legend of Dragoon: Decent game, a little tedious at times though.
Arc the Lad Series: Arc the lad is a tactical RPG series that is famous for story. Good games, hard to find though. However if you find them, they will all be packed together.
Breath of Fire 3: My favorite PSX game. Really ties together the first 2 games.
Breath of Fire 4: Has almost nothing to do with the first games, minus some innuendo at the end, but still a 4 and a half star game.
Chocobo's Dungeon: Am I the only one to have played this?
Dragon Warrior 7: If you like DW games, then this is for you. Can be tedious, but if you beat it you feel accomplished.
Grandia: Where to start on Grandia. Good rpg, but the sequel trounces it on all aspects.
Suidoken: This is a game that will keep you busy for a while. Great story and characters. Neclord is a bitch, btw.
Suikoden 2: Even better than the first, but so hard to find it is one of the 3 mythical grails of the PSX.
Legend of Legaia: A unique rpg, but kinda hard.
Lunar and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue: I clumped these together because well it is easier that way. The games play identical, and both have great plots. They aren't very long, but you should play them anyway. Lots of tasty anime cutsecenes.

More to come later

I can't believe no one's mentioned Wild Arms yet. WA1 (PSX) and WA3 (PS2) are two of the best games I've ever played.

Seconded. A must-have for every GBA owner. Just be sure to play the two games in order (Golden Sun before The Lost Age); the two are one complete story.

I've never played any of the Lufia or Breath of Fire games, though. I probably should.
