Piano..mario...whaaa?

Ahem, now that I got your attention.

Things can get pretty heated in here. Not that I'm saying its a bad thing, 'cause its not. Such debates bring up nice points and counterpoints, which leads to an interesting read. Unless things get downright ugly and theres verbal strikes that cut to the core...but I digress.

Essentially, what I'm getting at is sometimes it is just nice to sit back and enjoy the classics. I found this during my usual late night internet romps, 'cause I'm on vacation and I'm not required to hold a sleep schedule, and throughout the entire ten minutes and thirty nine seconds my jaw was slackened in amazement.

I've never seen anybody play mario brothers music so masterfully in my entire life.

So, I give you...The Video Game Pianist.
The GPrime video of him playing (10:39minutes)

His website

Just doing my part and spreading the love.
[edit edit] I'm currently listening to his version of Kefka's theme..and I'm literally getting teary eyed. He is that good. The man captures the emotion of the original songs and plays them in ways I cannot even begin to explain. I'm just dumbfounded by his sheer talent. He brings the warmth of a loving home to the ears in his rendition of Kids run through the city corner. In his amazing play of Balamb Gardens you can just feel the laid back attitude of a small town school. If I close my eyes I can almost picture the light blue colors of Balamb Garden's walls in the afternoon. The man paints memories in sound, he causes great victories in these video games to crash forth. He gives weight to loss of beloved characters...I know it was a pathetic attempt at describing his ability. I'm just simply amazed by this man.

Grandmaster, thank you for bringing this to the public's attention. The guy is friggin' amazing! I downloaded the first set when you posted this and played it on loop while I did my homework. It's not only awesome piano work, but, like you said, it's nice background music too. I could almost imagine myself sitting in a diner with this playing.

I think everyone should check this out. He does capture emotion very well, and doesn't overdo anything. I didn't think playing Halo on the piano could sound so crisp. He takes every song and adds his own spice to it, which I like.

Ooh, I saw that video once. It was bloody awesome. ^_^

Now that I see he's done piano renditions of OTHER songs, too... I simply must see.

I was looking through his songs a few weeks ago...I think...Penny Arcade linked? Or something.

But anyway--yeah, he's amazing. I didn't see Kefka's theme, though. Off to check now!

Download the 70 meg zip file, it has all of his songs in it including Kefka's. The links and mirrors should be right in the center of the page.

He reminds me of one of my friends.

My friend learned how to play a Pokemon battle theme on his Sax. From Memory. :O_o:

I can play the Halo theme on my violin pretty well, but it doesn't touch this guy. :gonk:

Yeah yeah, had to use a new smilie. ^_^

I'm honestly surprised nobody heard of him already. I had seen the guy's first video on Ebaum's back before he did it blindfolded backwards, and the like. I downloaded his entire 'album' and I listen to it regularly.

He's great. Even when he's not doing game stuff.

Just spreadin the love ^_^

I saw him earlier, too. My friend had a firm belief that the guy wasn't really playing, but it seems he was after all.
