Recently gave blood, but now I want it back...
You hear that Red Cross?!? I'm gunning for yah!
Not really, but I was wondering if anybody knows of any foodstuffs that are supposedly good for building up a person's blood supply. I just feel literally drained, and while this is just the first week since I've given a pint, I still wouldn't mind know if there's anything I can do to speed along my recovery. SWK |
Eat all types of food. Protein, fruits and veggies, some sugar right off the bat helps to give you instant energy. Basically all the food your body was meant to eat is good for you. Bananas especially, I believe, for some reason I can't remember.
|
anything with iron, calcium, protein and salts will be helpful as well.

Buy vitamins. I'm not talking Flintstones chewables, exactly. Just any generic brand daily vitamin. They'll give your immune system a boost while you're regaining white blood cells and they'll supply you with 100% RDA of all the minerals mentioned by adamark and Staizer.

usualy when you give blood they give you orange juice or a cookie afterwards, in order to up your blood sugar levels. those too might be a good idea.

Iron is a must.
Unfortunately, my blood is no good to anyone, or so my mother tells me. Although they may be able to seperate the cells if I do go and give blood and at least use SOMETHING from it. Stupid body. |

Just out of curiosity, which blood types are in the highest demand? I always thought it was AB+ and O-, but I could be wrong. |
Yeah, AB and O are in high demand because anyone can take O blood, and folks with AB blood can only take O and AB blood. I don't know about the demand based on + and -.
And I have no idea what you should eat to replenish blood. I guess what everyone else has said sounds good. EDIT: you're right, BMG, about AB blood. My bad, not thinking before I type :sweatdrop . |
*nods* O is usually in demand no matter if it's positive or negative. Like me, I continually get flyers to give blood because I'm an O-. I haven't heard the type AB being in demand though. From what I remember, type O is the universal donor and type AB is the universal reciever. *shrugs*

Eat lots and lots of sandwiches. They contain the four food groups, and depending on what you put in it you could have plenty of the vitamins and minerals you need to regain blood. Oh, and take alot of naps.
Too bad I can't give blood. I weight 120 lbs. (actually 117 now, I lost weight over the summer because unless I'm being told to eat lunch, I forget to eat) and have type O. I think. Either that or B. |
