Adult Beverages

Now, I don't nessecerily want this thread to become about 'how hammered I got this one time...' Or 'I totally gave this chick like 4 shots and felt her up at this drunken party...'

Seeing as I'm turning 21 in aprox. 10 days (no 'happy birthdays' required, thank you), I'm really just curious about your current drink of choice, what adult beverage you first sampled, what's gross, and just for kicks; odd drink names you've heard of, and what they are comprised of.

I work in a Restaruant & Bar, and as I was chatting with the Bar-Tender the other day, he mentions something called a "Peanut Butter & Jelly Martini". Since my palet hasn't matured since I was 12, this appealed to me immediatly, and I think it will be the first thing I try. Ever heard of it?

current drink(s) of choice: Guiness for light drinking/meals, Jameson Whiskey and coke for "Heavy Duty" jobs.

a few interesting drinks to check out:
Statue of Liberty (shot of some licorice-tasting vodka, while lighting your thumb on fire)
Irish Car Bomb (guiness, bailey's irish cream and jameson whiskey)
Whiskey Sour (not sure the exact contents, but its got whiskey in it and its sour)

Also: if you can find a place that has rootbeer schnapps, ask them to make you a rootbeer float, its quite enjoyable, but hard to find.

I, for one, have never heard of a Peanut Butter & Jelly Martini. I don't frequent bars, so that's no surprise. And I don't drink a lot, so I don't know what's out there, really.

Alls I know is what I like, and I'd like other people to like, too. When people like the things you like, it makes you feel, like, good.

Before I get into that, however, I would like to give this piece of advice. If ever you find yourself in a situation where you want to experiment with adult drinks, make sure that there is someone close around you that knows what they're doing when it comes to drinking. Someone who has been there, and likes you enough to walk you through the Do's and Don'ts. Someone who is trustworthy enough not to set you up for a really big fall.

When it comes to drinking, big falls can be BIG falls.

Most of my experience comes from coolers. Stuff like Shmirnoff Ice, or some sort of Sparkling Green Apple alcoholic beverage. If you order these in a bar, or drink them around dickwads, they will refer to them as 'Fag Pops.' That is because studies show they are insecure in their masculinity and lash out to hide their attraction to, well, monkeys. Anyways, Coolers are a safe bet as they don't have a lot of alcohol in them and, if you find that you hate the taste beer, they come in a wide variety of delicious flavors.

As for the hard stuff, well, I'm from Canada. Everything here is 'the hard stuff.' If you feel like getting the 'real' bar experience, cross the border for an evening with your buddies and try out one of our watering holes. Order omething specifically Canadian. This has two benifits to drinking in America. One, you'll get pissed faster (if that's your sort of thing) and, two, for every one American dollar you give us we give you, like, 3 Canadian dollars.

Please help rebuild our failing enconomy ...

And, as far as personal reccomendations, I cut my teeth on Fireball Whiskey (well, it was the first drink I tried when I was of age, so I guess it's my 'first' drink as a man ...). Go easy on this stuff. It tastes like liquid cinnamon hearts, and warms you up as it goes down. However, this is not a beverage to drink in gulps. It will kill you if you drink it in gulps. Get a shot glass, or a small bar glass and fill them up 1/4 full. Then sip it.

You'll be in less pain that way.

Hope I have helped you in your journey towards manhood. Or drunken, violent spousal abuse. Whichever.

Juicy Pussy.

I swear to God that is a real shot. Have one.

When I'm of age, I will be drinking what I've heard called "Rocky Mountain Motherfuckers". As you can be assured, I've NEVER had one, since I'm not of age, I can't be sure, but I THINK I'll like it. It's Southern Comfort Whiskey (which I'm sure WILL be my favorite) mixed with equal part Amaretto in a double shot glass with a splash of lemon juice.

Remember, kids. Underage drinking is bad.

CT, I was wondering why I saw your name in this post ;)

Nique, you must try an amaretto sour. It is delicious. Red Death is pretty good, too.

And yeah, never drink alone. You never know what might happen.

Well, so far the first TRUE drink ive ever had was a Steel Mill beer. Anyway, I suggest not buying 39 cent 50 oz beers cause they ain't good. Right after that my sister gave me a cherry daquery which I thoroughly enjoyed because of the taste. I also think they have a higher alcohol percentage than beer. Then my sister hit me up with 10 shots of Banana Rum, which is incredibly smooth, and gives you a nice little warm up in the throat.

Now for mixed drinks. Don't know its name but I know the composition.
Put in about 1/4 of your glass with potato vodka (40% alcohol), 1/2 your glass of blueberry flavored rum (20% alcohol), and the last 1/4 of the cup youre drinking out of should be Minute Maid Berry Punch or some other juice (0% alcohol). I drank about 3 of these on New Years. They're fairly smooth.

The first thing I ever tasted was Salmiak booze, I think. Salmiak is a finnish candy like thingy. Tastes rather good actually.

Now my current drink of choice is beer. And the occasional random booze.

But what I would highly recomendm is the following: You get mint booze, coco liqour and milk. You mix them together so that the total of alcohol is clearly more than the milk and so that there is a bit more coco liqour than mint booze. That's how I do it, but each to his own. Anyway, it taskes like a particular candy called 'Marianne' which is also the name of the drink.

As I am decidedly underage, I would certainly not suggest that you try a baby Guiness, which is a shot of Kahlua with a bit of Irish cream on top, that looks like, well, a Baby Guiness, and is all kinds of tasty.

And I would DEFINITELY not suggest that you try an apple-tini, which is apple flavored vodka, another apple-specific drink (darn if I can't remember what it is...it's like 90-proof) and then an apple mix that you can buy at most liquor stores. It's really tasty. Not that I would know.

As for interesting drinks, my friend, err, someone elses friend once made him a multiple orgasm. I'll be damned if I can't remember what was in it, but it was frothy and tasty, and aptly named. Very girly. It insulted my, um, my friends manlihood.

If you're a new drinker stick to beer or lighter/diluted beverages at first. You don't want to be hitting bottles of vodka at the start :x

I myself am fond of the royal three--vodka, tequila, and whiskey, in any order and in any form, although I do like Daiquiris. Also--if you want to experiment with *holy shit this is also a hallucinogen*, try Absinthe (the real kind. imported from europe).

But anyway--for friendly bar drinking, I highly suggest you don't feel any 'brand loyalty.' Often smokers or drinkers go into the whole deal nervously and order what everyone else is getting. Soon, when they become 'veterans,' this becomes their 'long-standing brand of choice,' through a freak accident. I'd do what Kevin and Alex do on Diggnation and keep experimenting different brews and mixes. The web has *tons* of mixing sites as well.

Anyway--perhaps some of the basic martinis, bloody marys, things like that, are what you should start out with. Then hop all over the map. Drunkenly.

I, like, Illuminatus am certainly not implying any sort of advocacy for underage drinking.
