Superhero games
I read somewhere that super hero games are harder to get right, I have found a perfect example
Batman: Vengence Baman Rise of Sin-Tsu Vengence was a good batman game, it struck right on the line between sthealth and actoin, and gadgets. Sin-Tsu- So-So fighting game, Reeeaaaly shitty batman game don't list spidey's games, because after activision, there was only one way to do it. Tell me your opinion on other superhero games. |
Batman no one has yet to find out what's good. Lackluster sales have been the way since the SNES.
Superman... Nevermind Spiderman is probably the only one lucky enough to break the mold. Yeah, his first games are going to be the best (innovative over the renovation that Activision did) but for the most part, a superhero game of any sort really has a hard time to be "translated." You have so many people that already have a preconceived notion of them. You stray too far from what's known about them and expect it to hurt your sales. You stick to the guidelines, and you get a hardcore audience but you gotta worry about not hitting the right market. All in all, I'd rather just start a new road and leave that bundle of problems to someone else. :) |
You play the new Hulk game yet? If you've ever wondered what it's like to go on a Hulk rampage, go check it out. It's good.
Superhero games have immense potential (cough, cough, City of Heroes) and they're becoming a more and more popular media device (Marvel busting out movies, The Incredibles, etc.) I'm in a Silver Age Sentinels game right now (formerly an old-school Marvel game) and having a blast. We've got just enough skill and ability to fight villans (our villans include a crazy freaky guy named Wraith, a midget with an army of zombies, a master ninja, someone with a cool gun we refer to as 'SWAT guy', and several others), but enough incompetence in our team to make it hilarious. |
Although I love city of Heroes, it doesnt count,it can't capture the experience of a favortie hero because you make the hero .
(wish I was'nt to poor to play CoH for real, right now the damn box sits in my room and taunts me with its awesomeness) edit:$30 in the mail |
Premonitions, all I read is "it doesn't count."
Please, clean up the sentences. I don't understand what you're trying to say. |
I second that. I don't understand what you were talking about either.
Spider Man was good, Spider Man 2 was great, I'm hearing Ultimate Spiderman is going to be kickass. Hulk 1 sucked, and Hulk Ultimate Destruction is badass. Superman......Batman... ...hm... Fantastic Four... Well, shit. |
"Although I love City of Heroes, it doesn't count. It can't capture the experience of a hero because you make the experience and the hero."
That's just switching around some letters, fixing missed keystrokes, and putting it into proper English syntax. Here's the same thing, in Convince-o-speak: "Although I love City of Heores, I don't think it counts as a 'Superhero Game.' It can't capture the experience of playing a pre-existing superhero like Batman or Kite-Man because part of that experience is taking on the guise of a character you know. In CoH, you make the character, so the 'I'm freakin' Batman' part of the experience is gone." You owe me $30. |
Kind of surprized that no one has mentioned X-Men Legends. this was a very excelent multiplayer game, as well as a surpizingly well done super hero-based game. i'm not a huge fan of X-men (or many other superheros) but i really enjoyed it. I havn't had a chance to look into X-Men Legends 2, but with any luck they've been able to replicate the original winning formula.

Personally, I'd take a game that was'nt good for its genre, if it properly captured that hero's experience
|
I love games that let me make my own superhero. Using a preexisting one can be cool, but I'd much rather have my own. I've made up heroes before and it's a totally fun time.
