Project Zero/Fatal Frame 3. Kill me now.

I love this series and the screenshots and videos from the newest installment don't look like they're about to dissappoint me. I'm a little tired of the whole 'ritual' side to the games, but I'm sure that they've updated them (or hope) from the ol' 'find a book and learn about a ritual' thing that they had with the first two games.

And to hear that the fourth is getting ready, I'm in heaven. (Or hell, whichever way you look at it.) This is the game I love to hate.

???

I remember you saying that you have someone else playing horror games while you watch. You're seriously up to torturing yourself?

In order to complete the first two Fatal Frame titles I had to play with another friend.

One person on FAQ duty and the other playing.

PyrosNine 09-21-2005 08:38 PM

I could only play it with 4 other friends, my mom, my dog, a few stuffed animals, my preacher, and a large tub of peanut butter. (maybe not the others, but I at least needed the peanut butter.) I might be brave enough to leap into fence filled with rabid dogs to save a small kitten, but not play a game that's screensaver is of a girl appearing from nowwhere to pound on my screen. And that loud buzzing noise of the Fatal frame hurts ma ears!

But I"m fairly sure this game is cool, and I've read a walkthrough already for the Japanese version that's already been released over there. It may very well be the last one, as it ties up the previous 2 quite nicely.

It still doesn't explain why the hell-portals are there, and if there is a permanent solution to close them besides giving it what it wants. (Damn! Ancient Feudal people were F***ing evil and stupid. "Hey! The portal to hell seems to feed off of dark, evil rituals of suffering! Let's keep causing the suffering to only stall the inevitable release of evil and feel all the suffering we've caused reciprocated ten fold! I'm a genius!")

I'm happy to see Miku again, and it's good to know that they're faithful to an old character by have Miku kick ass (better than the other characters) and taking names. Or at least books and shreds of paper that they're written on. Usually they just make new characters and all the old ones either die or have a lesser prescense in game, as well as make the old character "weaker."

(Okay, in Silent Hill 3, Harry Mason, our hero who defeated hordes of nightmarish creatures and the earthly incarnation of a dark god, is apparently killed with ease, sitting in a chair? What the crap?)

Yeah, I found that SH3 plot to be slightly strange. Harry Mason was kick ass, in my books and it seemed a very poor way to let the guy go. Oh well.

JC123, I put myself through this hell because I love this game. I love how you don't need gore to make something dramatic and scary. I love how they toy with you, sometimes just showing parts of ghosts or making you wait to be able to view them. The ghosts that fade in and out are real bastards, as are the ones that crawl on the ground. Real creepy stuff.

I love Sae from 2, by the way. Her laughter still sends chills down my spine.

I've been wanting to play the Fatal Frame series for quite a while. I've never checked around online, but these never seem to get traded in where i work. They're still quite expensive for being 2+ years old, I think the first goes for around $30 and the second $40 used.

Someday, I'll get my hands on 'em.

Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented is said to hit the shelves at my EB store on November 2 and is the only game I'm really looking forward to right now. I love 2 but it's not as scary as 1. Yes, the ghosts in 2 are definitely frightening, but the specters in 1 pose a hell of a greater threat. I'm an expert at 2 and the ghosts aren't hard in the game so it's pretty easy to dominate regardless of what attacks you. Even the boss in Survival Mode wasn't much once I figured out its pattern.

As for Silent Hill 3...well, it's been quite some time between when Harry defeated the Dark God and Heather came of age. He wasn't a particularly healthy guy to begin with, so I don't think he has a whole lot to stand on when Claudia's boys paid him a visit.

PyrosNine 09-22-2005 09:24 PM

But you'd expect the guy to have a rocket launcher under his chair or something, You don't metaphorically and realistically go to hell and back without being super precautious! Heck, in a news article it was already stated that he popped a cap into a cultist a few years prior.

Oh well. Any of you memorize the Mansion from the first game? I hear a section of the Dream Mansion is a carbon copy of it, down to beating down a Shrine maiden. Actually, many of the enemies and scenes have elements of the other two games, with crimson butterflies, Kusabi/kasabi/Whatever attacking you, and a deadly tatoo.

You'd also figure Miku'd learn about how to remove tatoo's after her game too...

Lazer surgery. Yeah, baby.

The twin ghosts in 2 scared me, the younger girl ones. (One was a puppet, if I remember correctly.) I really love the voices for some of the ghosts. The one thing that does annoy me to no end though was with the crystal radio in 2. What was up with them repeating the same word or sentence 3 times? Emphasis? To make a point?

It hurts...It hurts...It hurts!

Just made me want to snapshot them more and put them out of their damn misery. Gah!

Kima Azure 09-23-2005 09:06 PM

The Kusabi, AKA the Folklorist. I thought he was suicidal.

Anyway, I would play this... if I didn't have a heart to suffer from.

Makes me think about the game I' plotting.
