I wonder if he realizes that...

I was just re-familiarizing myself with the archives, and I noticed something interesting. Blackmage only made one significant change to the world while he had supreme power: he made it so he was no longer effected by mortal laws. He may have lost the power, but wouldn't he still have that exemption? Does this mean he doesn't have to listen to thief but hasn't realized it yet?

What Black Mage did was that he made the Hell Ruler immune to all mortal laws. Since he no longer has that position, he is back under Theif's contract.

Nope. Click or read, it's the same either way --

EDIT: :ninja:'d, but at least I have the link.

Maybe he just stoped all current contracts, and Theif put an "Not exempt for Demi-gods" clause in? It would come in handy with all the demi-gods they are mucking around with all of a sudden.

ah. Thanks for clearing that up.

If that is so, then why didn't BM teleport with the rest of the party when they escaped from that zombie in Episode 408: Mental Reboot? As RM stated "it was a GROUP teleport. The dynamics of the spell don't care if there is 3 or 300 so long as we are, conceptually, a group."

BM's inability to teleport with them is a mystery who's most obvious answer is that he is NOT, in fact, under Thief's contract anymore. I had always considered this issue foreshadowing to BM's eventual realization that he is not Thief's slave. If this is not the case, I can only regard this comic as a plot hole.

Does anyone have any ideas why BM did not teleport with the rest of the group? Brian?

Kurosen 10-14-2005 10:58 PM

Thief had temporarily written him out of the contracts just to be a jerk. Hence why Black Mage's name is crossed out in that insert panel.

The Fifth Power 10-14-2005 11:19 PM

And also, BM travels with them to cause more pain, not because of contracts. Even though he still gets messed with by them.

Oh... I had assumed that Thief had crossed BM off the contract AFTER he failed to teleport with the group.

How disappointing, I had rather liked my my interpretation. Even the second one. There are over 600 comics here you'd think there would be a plot hole SOMEWHERE!

Darn you Brian. Darn you to heck! Someday I will prove that you're not perfect :p

Sesshoumaru 10-17-2005 11:35 PM

All Theif did was cross him out of the "Active Members of the Lightwarriors" section. So he would still be covered under the contractual slave chains, he just doesn't get paid (not that he does anyway =p).
