Dividing Sprite Sheets

I've tried everything and I still can't seperate a bloody sprite from a sprite sheet. Could someone please tell me, step by step, how to do it? I would really appreciate it.

In MS Paint? On the toolbar, click "Select," drag a box over the sprite you want, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. Is that what you're looking for?

What do you do with it once you do that?

You click inside the new box you get by hitting Ctrl+V and drag it where you want, away from the sprite sheet. I'm trying to follow your problem as best I can; would it help to post screenshots?

Is there a way to save the sprites once you cut them out?

Skyshot 10-20-2005 03:42 PM

Uh, people just pull them from the sprite sheet. That's where they're saved. Trust me, once you're accustomed to it, it's one of the easiest things in the world. Other than that, you can use Ctrl+V multiple times for each individual copy you make.

What I do personally is I make my own sprite sheets, have each pose as a layer in photoshop, and then I can just drag that layer to my other photoshop files.

But, uh, that's just me, cause I make my own. What you're talking about is a bit of work, but it's worth it, and it's not too bad eventually.

Okay here's one: how do you make a sprite's background transparent when it has another color?

Example:

It all depends on what art program you're using, as has been mentioned. Sometimes its a question of using something with layers & transparency. Sometimes its just a matter of something that can puts a cut & paste completely around the sprite you desire.
