Star Wars: Battlefront 2

Looks cool, especially now that you can do boarding actions on space ships.

My main problem with the first one was that the little destroyer droid couldn't just run over people when it was rolled up into a ball.

I'm serious, that was it.

This one looks like it's going to be fairly awesome, especially with the ship to ship boardings and Space-Voip dogfights. (Voip is the sound of the lasers) The Jedi are going to be difficult to play-balance, though.

Man you guys suck. I made a topic 'bout this a few weeks ago and nobody mentioned a damn thing.

Anyway.

I played the Open Beta, and I still am. Lowdown: It's Battlefield, but better. It feels like both Star Wars and an epic battle. The bots that run around act just like players, it feels, and so no matter what you do, it's a real battle. Four opening units; assault, explosives, sniper, and shotgun/medic/sachel charge guy. Two additional unit, and one hero. Hero varies from era to map, and the heroes vary between eras.

There are two eras: Clone Wars (Droids vs Clones) and Galactic (Imps vs Rebs). The Clones get the Jet Commando (ala Republic Commando), and a Chaingun Commando. The Droids get Droidekas (destroyers) and Magna Guards, or Big Robot With Explosive Pistol. The Empire gets a Seargant, who has a rocket launcher and a Area of Effect buff for friendlies, and the Dark Trooper, a jetpacking soldier with a Lightning Bolt Gun. The Rebels get Bothan Spies, who can turn invisible, make an AOE regeneration for all nearby units, and have a nifty flamethrower, but can't get hit more than once. They also get Wookies, big, tough, grenade launcher and Bowcaster packin badasses who are as slow as sloths.

Hero units vary. The Empire on Utaupu gets Boba Fett, also called the "Wookie Killer." Seriously. His flamethrower annihlates, and he's got a triple-shot blaster that dominates. On Utaupu rebels get Han Solo, who's got a double-tap that kills anyone both shots connect with, but other than that he's got Sachel Charges and a repair gun. Leia is on Tantive, she's pretty lousy but her pistol's rockin'. Darth Vader...yeah. Force Choke. Throw Lightsabre. Force Ninja Dash.

The Clone Era heroes are my favorite. General Grevious, who so long as you are swingin lightsabres...you kill. Anyone. You've got an AOE with your sabre's - since there's four of them and all - and you kill anyone near you. Obi-Wan has force powers like push and pull, but is not nearly as powerful as Grevious. Then, Yoda. Yes. Yoda. The green little fucker is SO HARD To hit, has force pull and push, and stomps ass.

The big concern is that all heroes are selected on the skill of a player. Not always. In fact, not most of the time. But even if you do, the fact that you are a hero unit REALLY stands out, and you're almost always vulnerable to hell, like "Hey! Hit me!" Explosives kill most all hero units.

Despite all of the dying you do, the game is never short of fun. It's the opposite of Counterstrike; dying doesn't matter, just kill people. TKs don't matter almost the whole time. And best of all, it feels like Star Wars.

My only complaint is the fact that it's hard as hell to snipe. Leading with a sniper rifle is hard, especially when there's fifty or sixty people on a single server. The game is wonderful though. And Space Combat is outstanding, but there's not much more to say other than "It's alot like XWVTF and Galaxy's Jump to Lightspeed.

I love the FPS mode. I racked up 104 kills in one level with it. It's so good to know my doom 2 skills are still working.

I, for one, really like the campaign. Makes the clones seem human, and not biological machines trained to stomp ass. Plus there's no stormtrooper syndrome. Or, if there is, it's understandable, because it's damned hard to avoid getting killed in the opening corridors of the Tantive IV. A part that Mirai missed is the way the heroes move. sure, the other movements are nice, but the hero movements are NAILED. From the cocky strut of Vader to the way Boba Fett stalks, it's just perfect. However, in a small gripe about the starship levels...I wish there were more variety. more capital ships. More things to bomb. Also: the Imperial Shuttle is the most unbalanced anti-fighter ship there. those seeking missiles are deadly, and infinite. shame that the multiplayer rejects my CD key, though

This game is one of the few that really just makes it fun to be more powerfull then everyone else.
And yet its so balenced the enemy jedis owning us but ours isnt able to do anything.
Simply because the balence is there and you need to actually know how to use the jedi.
i wish there was some kind of duel system though,
like Darth vader vs Obi-wan on the deathstar!
although for that they'd need an older obi-wan. :(

Mirai Gen 11-07-2005 01:01 PM

I'm enjoying this game immensely. Nothing's greater than tearing ass through a section of the backlines of droids as Ki-Adi-Mundi or Aayla Secura, force throwing and tossing lightsabers in all directions. The only thing that's better is being on the recieving end, and actually kicking the shit out of a jedi.

Damn this game rocks.

Oh-ho, it is possible, my friend. Maybe not for the Obi-Wan/ Vader combo, but you can duke it out. You just gotta find a friend to play with in splitscreen. Here's what ya do:
Select split screen.
Select Instant Action
Select your levels
Go to OPTION
Go to the HERO OPTIONS. (don't remember exactly what it's called, but you'll find it.)
Change the time option at the bottom to a much smaller number, say 20 or less.
Hit OK, then hit LAUNCH.

So now you've got the option to be a jedi hero almost constantly. When you die, the game starts a countdown for however many seconds you put into the time option in the hero menu. After this time ends, you can play with the hero again. ANYWAYS. You play in splitscreen mode, and you and Player 2 choose opposite teams. Kill some things to earn enough points to unlock your hero, and then once you're both force-weilding maniacs, find each other and go at it. We recommend the kick-ass "Vader vs Luke on Hoth" battle, because there's the possibility of Jedi decapitation by idiot NPC snowspeeder pilots.

My only major gripe with this game is that they took out some of the maps from the first Battlefront (I'm playing the PS2 version, not sure about the PC version). Other than that, the game is just great. Playing Assault Mode in Mos Eisley with every hero and villain you could want, is just 'Wars-geek heaven. I was a bit surprised when it came to the difficulty level, though. BF2 is quite a bit harder than the first - I waded in expecting to dish out the good news to every and all enemy soldiers, and I was shot from about ten different directions. Shock! Space battles were surprising too; I remember playing the Bespin level of BF and shooting down enemy fighters left and right, and then once I got into the ARC-170 I was shot down quicker than you can say 'poodoo'.

But other than the absence of maps and the shock value, I love this game and want BF3 now. ;)

I bought it last week, and I am pleased. My friends and I really haven't even started on anything except the split-screen "C The G". Conquer the galaxy is a lot easier than I was expecting, though. It's not a war so much as a punch-them-repeatedly-in-the-stomach-until-they cry-athon. I've played it four times as every different side and I lost a total of two battles. The single player campaign is crazy, though. I'm on the Tantive IV right now and I'm going to punch Leia in her ovaries when I find her.

I don't really have any complaints about this game. It's awesome.
