Morrowind Problems

If you didn't know already, I am a very big Morrowind fan (well so is half the world, but still). Recently I wanted a more up to date version of Morrowind so I decided to buy and extrememly nice copy at Wal-Mart for $6. During my first installation, the little screen with the orc and his nordic axe came up like normal and everything. About 2 months later, I decided to uninstall it to free up some space on my laptop. A week later, after getting the guide book off of a friend I desired to play it again, but guess what, its not working anymore.

To be exact when the 2004 edition CD is placed into my computer, a small pop-up comes on screen asking whether or not I wish to install Morrowind on my computer. The orc screen dosne't seem to exist anymore. Now theres this crappy default installer using installshield. I don't have a decision of where I want to place the file, it just automatically attempted to install it into the last folder where I placed it. I can't browse or anything, it just skips to the page with the "are you sure you wish to install to this location page". It dosen't give me any option otherwise. I guessed that it may be something that it had to do so I recreated the folder, but guess what as soon as I attempted to install it, about 10 minutes into the installation with the installation bar still at 0%, I get a nifty pop-up about how the computer couldn't copy into the temporary folder or what ever. I am the admin on my laptop and should at least be able to have everything working. There is no quota management in place, I have over 7 gbs of space left, so what in the world is wrong with it.

Most people on the net by this point must be having the idea that my disk must just be malfuctioning. My friend's Game of the Year edition also didn't want to install on my computer. All of the same errors are occuring and even the Construction Sets aren't working.

Please help with my problem. Arigato

Check inside your cd for a cleaning function that delets any data on your computer associted with that game. I remember it worked with the sims.

Anyways check the disk in the d drive and there may be a cleanup function or something close.

Hope that helps.

Curd, I checked mine and I couldn't find anything of the like. Try looking around your computer for folders that contain morrowwind. and manulaly delete them. They may be the reason. You did uninstall it right? Not manually delete it?

I made sure to use the uninstall file for the actual Morrowind file(s). However I later noticed that it hadn't manually deleted the TES Construction software so I stupidly manually deleted it.

As for the disk, its mostly free from scratches and my CD player will play my Age of Empires II disk perfectly fine as well as burn my music. So its not the drive.

Hmm I'm not much a comp expert, so my only other piece of advice is to give tech support a call. Or e-mail.

I suggest a cleaning of your registry. Get a program for cleaning it up, and clear it of all Morrowind related entries. My guess is that the registry is what is pushing the install to that point, and the fact that you manually deleted the Construction set means its still recorded in the registry. You will want to do a little researching about programs that are meant to clean the registry, because if you mess up the registry, you will be in trouble.

A lot of people had this problem. It has to do with the registry. Go over to i think the Elderscrolls Forum at thier site for help.

Clean the registry like others said, however instead of redirecting you I shall tell you.

Go to Start->Run and type in regedit
On the browser on the side go to my computer-> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software you should see a folder in here call Bethseda Softworks, delete it. Then try re-installing it. I've found deleting the regkeys of most un-installed software makes it able (or easier) to re-install it.

I finally got it to work, but I did something slightly different. I uninstalled Age of Empires 2 and oddly enough Morrowind decided to install. Both copies of it worked but I used the slightly more updated 2004 edition. Now I just have to decide what to do. The giant guide book isn't being nice and telling me anything so I'll just mention that some of the quest information isn't working out.
