Is This Game Any Good? Round 2
 

Ok, I need a report on Battlefront 2. I'm completely psyched about this game. When I saw the commercial on TV, I quite literally squeeled with joy. I need to know immediately, please, let me know if it's any good! What I'm concerned most with are the space battles. More specifically, X-Wings. Are the flight mechanics improved at all? Do ships have shields? Could I pwn a Star Destroyer by myself (seriously, I'm that awesome)? I needs to know! :whee:

Civilization IV? How about Call of Duty 2? Is it worth switching over from Call of Duty: United Offensive (aside from the player base increases)?

BATTLEFRONT II = TEH AWSOM!

Space battles are difficult at first, but fun. I'm not sure about X-Wings yet; we've only unlocked the Clone levels and we're usually the bad guys at our house. But yes, you could definately pwn a star destroyer if you're careful.

BFII is a little harder than the original, at least it is for me. The "lock on" function is a little difficult to get used to, and unless you turn on the "enemy sensors" in the options menu, it's often hard to tell your guys from their guys from far away. (My sister helped us lose a battle by force-choking about six of our own men once.) But in other respects, it is awesome. The AI is much better than in the original. The characters talk to each other like they do in "Republic Commando," which makes it fun. You can tell what's going on just by listening to the AIs chat with each other. They'll let you know if something nasty is standing right behind you, which in my case is a blessing.

My only complain is that some of the level maps look incredibly similar to those in BF I. Hoth, for example, is nearly identical in both games. The upside: Now you can play those levels as Jedi heroes for set periods of time. Me and my sister, for example, staged an epic Luke /Vader battle on Hoth. Different worlds have different heroes. They stay alive as long as you keep killing enemies. Once they die, they're gone. You can, however, set an option so that the heroes become available at all times when in Instant Action mode.

It takes a few tries to get used to the gameplay, but all in all, it's a fun game.

I've been wondering about BattleFront II myself, the demo in OPM was kind of hard, though mostly because the two missions were rigidly timed.Its not like that in the actual game, is it?

Also, Azisien, Call of Duty 2 is well worth getting. The upgraded A.I. (on both sides), more open levels, smoke grenades, and a more realistic health system (you have a small amount of health, no magical medkits, and no health bar. When your health gets low, the edge of the screen turns red and pulsates to show you're near dying. You regain health quickly if you go without being hurt for a few seconds.).

In response, HOLY SHIT it rocks. It's not exactly 'skill based', but oh dear GOD You feel like you're in a fucking battlezone. Yes. No, but pilots can repair their ships over time. Yes, if you were that good with an A-wing. or is it B wing?

A-Wings are the really fast ones that if you stood them on their engines, they'd look kind of like an A. B-Wings are the ones that look like a lower-case "t", but are called B-Wings because they resemble Blades.

WHY DO I KNOW THIS? My vast knowledge of Star Wars is beginning to depress me. :(

EDIT: So does that "no" mean that flight mechanics haven't been improved upon at all? What about other levels with ships in them? Are the ceilings still really low?

Basically, when you're doing the space fighting, you have a pretty nice-sized fight area. You do tend to get confused sometimes because up and down no longer hold meaning (you are in space after all!) but it is indeed very fun to do.

One new feature is that you can "level" up your character profile. By completing certain missions, you win medals. With every certain amount of medals, your rank goes up (alas, I'm still a mere sergant) and you earn goodies like faster energy regeneration and better blasters.

There are certain timed missions, but their numbers are few, and basically all they are is "protect this area for X minutes and then move on."

I've heard wonderful things baout Civ 4. My friend, the other day, could barely talk to me aftaer a five-hour run.

So, if you like Civ, fo' sho'. It intimidates me (>>hugs his little civ 2 multiplayer gold edition<<), but I still want to try it.

Anybody got Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance? Cuz I'm wondering if I should get it.
