50th Anniversary Celebration
Saturday (to the day) marks the 50th Anniversary of the Flux Capacitor's envisioning by Doc Brown, a truly momentus day in the history of time travel.
What are your plans? |
Bah! Who cares about Flux-Copaciday?! 'Tis a fool's holiday! It's all about the Guy Fawkes Day over here! Running around in the streets whilst burning effegies everywhere! Attempting to overthrow the local government by placing gunpowder in the basement of Town Hall! Running from the police (since Guy Fawkes Day is neither celebrated in that way nor celebrated in my town/district/state/country)!
Now THAT'S what I call a good time! ;) |
I'll spend it with myself from last year, then go back to my time and spend it with myself from next year.
I know I can out-drink myself from last year, and out-armwrestle myself next year. And my future self knows it. |
i raise my mug of Dr. Pepper to you, Doc Brown, on your accomplishments in this an any other timelines you may inhabit.

Flux capacitor? Guy Fawkes? Who gives a crap about that junk when you have the opportunity to celebrate the greatest day of all time (drum roll please):
Worldwide Dungeons and Dragons Game Day! |
50 years... keep on fluxing!
As some of you may have realized, Saturday, November 5th 2005, is the 50-year (fictional) anniversary of Doctor Emmit L. Brown's inventing of the Flux Capacitor, allowing for the first Time Machine to be built some 30 years later, and the first sucessful time-travel attempt shortly following that aproxamtley 30 years prior.
EDIT: My mistake - the first sucessful attempt was made in 1885 - 100 years prior to the creation of the Time Machine. Thanks to Ryan North of Dinosaur! comics for reminding me... Wiki link =============== "Damn. I'm late!" No, seriously... I posted this in 'general' too late, not realizing a subject exisisted in off-topic already. 'Great Scott' indeed. Can we merge the threads? EDIT: I, for one, was hoping to discuss the movies in a not-so-off-topic manner, so eh... 'General'? Please? |
Merged and done. The mind boggles at the concept of two threads for this. God you people are nerds. :p

DOC RUNNNNNNNN its THE LIBYIANS!
DOC? DOOOOOCCCCCCC??? michael j fox's finest hour the academy be damned |
I esspecially liked it when doc figured 'what the hell.' and put on a bullet-proof vest.
Also, Biff Tannen's lines were some of the best villain-bafoonary I've ever witnessed. "That's about as funny as a screen door on a battleship" or "So why don't you make like a tree, and get outta here." |
What is the gathered opinion on the jigawatt/gigawatt issue?
I am personally inclined to side with jigawatts, both because thats how it was script-written and because, to me, it just feels better for time travel to only be accomplished with units of energy we can only create with stolen plutonium, harnessed lightning, or futuristic garbage powered reactors. |
