Wanted to plug my comic, but the thread was closed...

hey,

for some reason the thread for this is closed, I've created a sprite comic based on castlevania, if anyone wants to check it out or is even midly curious go to www.crashtestpress.com.

wow i'm so bad at this... promoting your work always seems rude or something. I also have some other comics on the site I made with friends and my own work.

Thanks alot

Alex~

Well, first off, you really shouldn't be saving your comic as a JPEG. It's making your sprites look all lopsided and funky. You can get away with that format with drawn comics if the quality is good (although even then, I wouldn't recommend it), but with sprites, you are expecting to see uniformly sized boxes of color, and the JPEG tends to mess that all up.

As for the comic, it was okay. I didn't get the whole conversation in the fourth panel, but perhaps you're planning to explain it in a later comic. The punchline was alright though.

Thanks for the feedback and for checking the site out, much appreciated. I have a few strips done in png but the file size was so large i changed all the strips to jpg instead, maybe in later strips it won't be as obvious considering the first few don't look as good due to lack of experience with sprites.

Glad you thought the first strip was all right, the beginning of anything usually isn't too hot so if you think it's all right that's a pretty good start.

thanks again for the feed back man.

The thread wasn't meant for you to plug your comic. It was there to tell you that you had permission to plug your comic, as opposed to in other parts of the forum where signing up just to plug a website or something usually = ban.

But anyway...

JPEGs are in fact bad for spritecomics, but it's not causing the lopsidedness... That's just a fault of shoddy resizing. Make sure when you resize something, you select it, then go to "Image", "Stretch and Skew", then select to resize by a multiple of 100 (100%, 200%, etc). Trust me, it'll look a lot better that way.

Thanks for the info on the thread and for the info with the jpeg, I'll definitely go about it that way with future strips.

Thanks alot

Alex~

New updates across the site have been put up, going through some problems with updates though. Does anyone know how I'd go about setting up a database for the comics? I'm doing the pages on their own html's which is a hassle to say the least.

Thanks

Alex~

How did you get a website anyway?
Anyway, I might be able to help you. I've got a few browsing scripts for comics, depending on your comic viewing needs.

My friends helped me put it together but they've been a bit lazy lately...

That sounds great, do you think you can send them to me or tell me where I can go to check them out?

Thanks

Alex~

I want a site.
A url site, I want.
Anyway, you can find an example of the javascript version here:
http://donutpie.magicmissiles.com/sonicflare/index.html
Would that be good for you?

Crashtester 11-28-2005 05:54 PM

Yea, I like the way the comic is set up for the most part, unsure about the site but the navigation through the comic is something that would probably save me a huge headache. How would I go about setting something like that up?

Thanks,

Alex~
