cartoon theater
Am I the only person a little concerned that cartoon network is starting to play non animated movies? I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way.

Yeah, it's a slippery slope all right. "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" was fine, as it's a classic and it revitalized cell-animation for a short time after it was released. "Small Soldiers?" Yeah, uh, the action figures are computer generated. So was the T-Rex in "Jurassic Park." I mean, I was a little peeved for a while when they added live hosts to Fridays (but I got over it quickly after realizing that I don't watch Fridays), but this is going against the concept of the network. It's supposed to be all cartoons, all the time. Why change it, Ted Turner?

You know, its not just Cartoon Theater, it's CN in general. CN used to be awesome, it had Bugs and Daffy, Thundercats, 24-hour Scooby-Doo marathons on Halloween, and other classic shows. Then they started making their own, which was cool, I personally love Dexter's Laboratory. But now all they have is original shows and most of them suck, although Foster's is not that bad (didn't it win an emmy?). The magic is pretty much gone from CN. The only thing that saves them is their Anime on saturday (InuYasha and FMA respectively).

i used to watch toonami alot, but its pretty gone in place of miguzi. besides, it doesnt really have the shows it used to. though, i gotta say mucha lucha isnt that bad, though i hate how they HAVE to stick in all of these forced obvious themes into every episode. though really, all of the older shows WERE much better.. |
I would have liked the concept of showing Cartoon based shows, such as Batman and Who Framed..., if they didn't have to be butchered to fit the 2 hour time limit. I was watching WFRR and kept going "Hey...they just skipped over the part where Doom questions the bar!" and stuff like that.
Also, Small Soldiers makes no damn sense, but anything is better than Scooby Doo movies and that shit. |
to get this out of the way, they haven't had a decent movie on cartoon theater in months (maybe years). That said I accepted Roger Rabbit, I let small soldiers slide, but Batman crosses the line. This wasn't a slip, or stretching it, this is blatently going against the fabric of the network.
Lets face it, they cracked for one reason or another. Once you start down this path its unlikely they will get off it. Soon we will be seeing live-action shows and before you know it Adult Swim and Toonami will be the times we see anything decent. |
I was actually pleasantly surprised to see Roger Rabbit on CN, but was confused and dismayed when I saw that they would be showing Batman. I agree, CN seems to be on a steady descent into conformity. Most of the shows that helped launch the channel have been placed on the special order CN channel, Boomerang. I remember when Boomerang was a crappy Sunday morning block that showed Scooby Doo rip offs like Jabberjaw and that one with the talking dune buggy. Gone are the glorious days the Power Zone, with the Centurions and Swat Kats. Moltar's position as Toonami's host has long since been ceeded to some crappy Bomberman-like robot with a wannabe Halo computer counterpart. And what the hell is this Miguzi crap? Tom and Jerry is the only show that has remained untouched since the CN's humble beginnings. The events of recent years in regards to our beloved Cartoon Network can only be described as a travesty.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who took a double take when Batman got put up. I have to agree the old days of CN are gone now. I fear Cartoon Network will become the next Mtv and eventually create a "Cartoon Network 2" which will play only cartoons... and eventually start playing normal shows and movies anyway...

Foster's is utterly charming, almost without exception, and Kids Next Door is basically what everyone imagines their childhood was actually like. Some of their other stuff is fairly godawful though.
Any show featuring the original Looney Tunes characters that is not the original Looney Tunes needs to be cancelled, the tapes burned, and the creators executed by firing squad. Hey Cartoon Network, instead of paying actual money to make Baby Looney Tunes - which is godawful and stupid - why not just rerun Muppet Babies, which was charming and made sense? |
MTV should be called Angsty Teen TV
and soon CN will be called Flavor of the Month TV PS yea muppet babies rocked, I don't care what anyone says |
