Your Cheapest Victory
You know that time the game glitched and the final boss took a header off a cliff, or that time you somehow managed to pull off an insane final move in a fighting game even though you were just smashing buttons. I'm talking about wins that are pure luck that we usually try to pass off as skill.
I had on such event just happen in SSBM. I was fighting the last guy of the 49th event match. I was down to one life had had about 80% damage to Ganondorf's 10% and what should drop but one of those damn barrels that spin and shoot you out when you press A. Wanting to get the thing out of the way a pick it up and chuck in just has Ganondorf charges his mega punch (which would have been certain death). We were very near the edge so as his punch releases he gets trapped in the barrel which tumbles about one and a half times before going off the edge of the stage. At this point its pointing diagonally down. Apparantly, something about the AI forced it to choose this exact moment and he shot himself off the level and downward at tremendous speed. Giving me one of the luckiest and most unintentional victories ever, and pulling my from the jaws of defeat to boot. |
How many of you have done this: Street Fighter 1, in that one werehouse in level one with convayer belt? Just led the boss to the edge and sent him falling off of the edge.
Also, in FF6, agenst KatanaSoul, just confuse him and he'll commit seppiku. Though the one that takes the cake was when I was playing Quake 2 with some friends back in school. I jumped on top of one guy and just kept blasting him with the blaster, and he couldn't shoot back. Gotta love that. ^_^ |
Pure luck?
It had to have been ween I was going for S victory in Contra: Shattered Soldier. The last boss (cell evolution) had me cornered, and was practically on top of me. I was completely surrounded, but I still managed to kill it before it crushed me. I spent way too much time getting perfect at that game, but the special movie was worth it. Those a capella sound effects are to die for. |
Cheap victories:
FFX: Underwater boss in Bevelle. It has Zombie status. Phoenix Down, anyone? Starcraft: "There is no cow level"--nuff said. Pure luck: Soul Calibur III: Beating AI version of Setsuka or Night Terror. FF7: Fighting Safer Sephiroth. He just finishes casting supernova on my below-level-60 party. All status effects inflicted. Health levels below 50 on each character. Fingernails being chewed to the nub. Please, oh please let me make the next move. YES! Uses megalixer. Next character casts Wall. Last character summons BahamutZero...Sephiroth OWNED! |
The more I think about, the more I believe that my defeating the final boss in Final Fantasy II(IV, SNES) must of been pure, dumb luck.
I didn't quite get the concept of "leveling up". I thought all the battles in the final dungeon were pretty hard, so I ran from most of them. >_>;; It took me a few tries, but I beat the boss. I still don't know how, seeming as I didn't power level in that last dungeon. |
My cheapest victory would be against my ward and student. He's basically learned how to play smash brothers by fighting me. so he fights almost exactly as i do with fox. the problem is, he's kind of stupid at times. so this one time on kongo jungle, the level with the wooden platforms and stuff and the aligators, well, i was down 2 lives out of a 3 life match and then he all of sudden fire foxes at me, but instead of hitting me, he hits the floor, bounces off and falls down the waterfall.
he still had a life left after that, so he charges after me, but i'm on the rock and while he's in midair, and an aligator takes a bite out of his butt and skyward he goes. |
in almost any game like street fighter or tekken or something like that, i always just press buttons. that's how i always get these uber techniques. it actually works too!

I was playing Halflife. I was on the top of one of the maps with all the geometric shapes and had fallen. There was a guy in the corner hitting me with a crossbow. I hit him once and decided on a kamikaze attack...
I jump off, take aime with the crossbow, go to sniper mode and fire. Now... I should have died from the fall. The guy should have killed me with the crossbow. Somehow I hit a ledge with a red 1 and snipe the guy with a headshot. Sheer dumb luck... |
FFX- Fighting Seymour on Gagazet- That jerkface kept taking about six turns in a row, casting Zombie and FullLife on all my characters before I had a chance to even POKE the guy. (Lotsa cursing on my end of the controller, let me tell you.) So eventually I spent several hours leveling up my characters and filling up all of my aeons' OVERDRIVE bars and then dismissing them. Once every character and every aeon I had was fully charged, I went to talk to Seymour. Tidus cast HASTEGA on Yuna and she went on a mad summoning spree, each summon taking off 99999 hit points with their overdrives before Seymour dismissed them. Then I just let everyone use their overdrives on him, and luckily (through some amazing fluke) Seymour didn't kill us. He only cast ZOMBIE on Auron once and then for some incredibly stupid reason cast FULL LIFE on Tidus, who was at full health.
In Bevelle- the water zombie- X Potion!! (Stupid Mauve didn't think to use a Phoenix Down...) The Guardian thingie outside of the Gagazet caves- I cast REFLECT on the monster right before he cast Curaga on himself. Usually he then casts REFLECT on me so he can bounce the spell back onto himself, but through whatever fluke he didn't this time. Result- Lulu ended up with full health and Auron beat the sheet out of the monster. TEKKEN TAG TOURNEY- Jun has a move where she'll hit her opponent's ankles. If the opponent kicks at the same time, she'll perform a throw. Sometimes, her opponents will kick as soon as they hit the ground after being thrown. The result- They'll fall for the same stupid trick eight times in friggin row. Not even enough time for them to stand up in between throws. |
Unreal Tournament: I cant remember what the level was called but for some reason i spawned at the beginning of the game right on top of the redeemer(which shouldn't have happened because its not a spawn point). There were 16 people playing(me included) and the frag objective was 15. I ran into the middle where everyone was and fired away. BAM! 15 kills and one suicide later, i win. ll in under 30 seconds too.
