Goblet of Fire

y'know.. the movie.. anyway, i just saw it with my cousins and family. i gotta say that it was actually pretty good. the special effects were really truly amazing. especially during the Black Lake scene where even Harry Potter was basically special effects. it really helped me picture what happened during the events better than some stuff in the book. for example, i pretty much couldnt picture anything that happened during the Black Lake chapter in the book.

i thought it was a lot better than last year's Prisoner of Azkaban. i had thought that the director really took away a lot of the comedy and made the movie more dark than the previous director would have done. i was actually surprised to see a lot of funny parts in the movie.

all in all, i thought this movie was great. what did you think of it?

God, I HATED Goblet of Fire!

They left so much out. They totally teased us with the Quidditch World Cup. Rita Skeeter wasn't busted, Bill didn't meet Fleur, no Sirius in the mountains ( :stressed: ), no allusion to the Order, and Harry didn't give Fred and George his gold so they could start their joke shop! They're going to do so much exposition for Order Of The Pheonix...There was a rumor that GOF was going to be 4 hours long and you know what? If they had done it, I would have seen it.

Prisoner Of Azkaban was way better than this CHEAP...STUDIO...CASH-IN.

thats true, it really didnt show that much at all with the world cup.

i remember hearing my brother say that they left some stuff out, too actually.. besides that, i havent read the book in a LONG time, so i guess i didnt remember a lot of what happened in the book..

I smell a DVD with lots of extras!

first of all...Bill didn' meet fleur in this book. Charlie would have met her being the dragon guy and being at hogwarts while she was there. Bill met her over the summer while both were working at gringotts so that Fleur could learn English. And thats pretty much it really that I can think of till I see the movie.

Yeah, but they saw each other at the Triwizard when the champions and their families met.

I for one loved how they handled the Quidditch Cup:
"And now let's play Quidditch!"
"Wow, what a game!"

Seriously, if you're going to cut something out, do it with in your face style.

I liked the movie, although at some points it did feel sort of rushed, like they had to include these specific moments to glue everything together but you could tell they just wanted to gloss over it, like the whole egg and gillyweed thing.

Favorite part of the movie: The dance. (A) Radiohead was the band, and (B) Everyone dressed from their country of origin.

Wait, my favorite moment was Cho speaking, not for the dialogue but because she had an Irish accent, which I know shouldn't be THAT suprising because Hogwarts is an English school and all, but it still earned an eye glance between me and my girlfriend where we both just went "ZOMG wtf, K?"

Thing is, a movie doesn't work with Goblet of Fire.
The Trials are a necesary part of the book, and therefore a necesary part of the movie. However, the Trials lack meaning without the filler in between. So really, there was no way this could have worked, without making the mvie extremely long, and it might not have worked anyway. They just cut the time short and made an admiral effort.

Also, to all the people that say it was nothing like the book, quiet. If you were paying attention to the Third Movie, the finally found out that they can't make a good carbon-copy of the book in movie form. Therefore, they decided to take the events and themes that they deem important and put them into the movie, with a few additions of their own. As I said , they made an admiral effort. It will probably be easier with the Fifth movie, without Trials eating up time and most of it not being too episodic (from my memory) the next movie will be better.

Actually looking at the movie, I have some complaints nad some compliments. First of all, they found out how to use the Weasley twins. They took advantage of the fact that they are comedians and brothers for comedy relief. They also made the dragin trila a whole lot more dangerous, and got the reason why Ron was Harry's friend again across better trhan the book. I was disappointed that they didn't put monsters in the maze, but what are you going to do, they didn't want to remake the book. Also, I hate Dumbledore's line about "losing yourself in the maze." To cap it off, that I can remember right now, I hate what they did with Voldemort. I always imagened him calm and cold and calculating, but they made him impatient and practically crazy. Which he is, but that's beyond the point. On the flipside, I like how they had Voldemort reflecting spells while talking to Harry. At least, that is how I remember it happened.

I only saw it once, I've just already happened to talk to two Potterphiles. So yeah. I'm done.

I will watch it tonight, and as I have pretty much hated the other movies (dudley with dark hair? WTF??), I don't expect much from this one. You can't actually enjoy a movie that gives you a certain view of something that differs with the view you got through reading the book. Unless those two views are congruent, which is pretty unlikely.

My favorite part was when Snape kept hitting Ron and Harry in the back of the head. When he started to pull down his shirt sleeves, everyone in the theater laughed. :p
