Shadowrun RP: Data Chips and Dinks...

OOC: Alrighty, finally getting my stuff back together. Like I said, I may not be posting as much as usual, but I'll try to keep up with the rest of you. And now our multiple groups converge again, woohoo! Also note that I don't know how all this gear works, so Mendel is going to jack in to use it, k?

The Street Sleeper - Hotel

Today was the big day. According to the Johnson, the Triad gangers would most likely be getting out of their Safehouse today, and the runners would be ready. The equipment had been gathered and put together, and Mendel was setting up his receving gear and preparing to jack in to keep a watch on everything, since over the past few hours all the surveillance gear had been set up in the sewers and surrounding area. The other runners were preparing in their own ways since they would be doing the footwork. They were reviewing the plan one last time, and double checking all their gear before going on the big mission.

Mendel plugged himself in and said, "Hear goes nothing." After a second was the familiar WHOOSH of entering the Matrix, and soon he was sitting in his own little room in the cyberworld, a somewhat clean looking apartment. The walls were lined with shelves and filing cabinets, and in the middle was a bank of moniters and senser readings, all displayed like he wanted. He looked over his bank of moniters, seeing the sewer and outside through multiple viewpoints, then checked the motion sensors, set to go off if they are agitated beyond an accepted level. Mendel leaned back in his comfortable chair and used the last device now attached to his cyberdeck and being manipulated by him, the Ear Codecs. "Hey, am I coming in loud and clear you guys?" Mendel said, confident now that he was in the cyberworld, and specifically his own little domain in the cyberworld, his retreat from reality.

(OOC: This is going to be FUN! I'll still be here, posting like I usually do at the times I usually do. Nothing's changing on my end of it, and I intend to keep it that way. Perhaps we should do a head count to see who is still with us. Haven't heard from Atronflame[sp?],IHMN, and Minkus in a while.)

Conrad stood next to the grating. Angela and he would go into the sewers while everyone else stayed at their appointed locations waiting for a alert from Mendel if any of the motion sensors were set off. A couple of Lonestar were waiting to trap the Gangers if they left the nest.

Checking his tranq gun and securing the gas grenades to his belt, he signaled Angela to get ready.

"Copy that, White King." Everyone was given 'Chess Pieces' codenames for use when communicating. He and Angela were the White Knights, the Lonestar teams were the White Rooks, everyone else were the White Bishops. The Gangers were the Black Pawns. "White Knight 1 and 2 moving into position. Checkmate in ten."

"Any traps in place on the grating?" He asked Angela. His mind focused, senses alert, adrenaline pumping, he was more than ready. In the next few minutes two days of legwork would come to an, undoubtedly, successful conclusion.

Keep her safe, man. Keep her safe.

Oppurtunity was knocking and Lady Luck had Triple Ds ...

"Hey, am I coming in loud and clear you guys?"

The feeling of a disembodied voice in her head was at once familiar... and disturbing. The last time she'd heard it...

Enough about last time, Imiri. There's time enough to moan about the past once the mission's over.

Missions. It was just like the training days all over again, when she'd actually been naive enough to think she could make a difference. And like those training days, she replied softly, swiftly, sharply.

"White King to White Knight, I copy. White Knights commencing insertion. Out."

"Any traps in place on the grating?" she heard Conrad ask.

"Wait."

Angela dropped to one knee and connected her endoscope to the cyberjack behind her ear. She lowered her head to the manhole and extended the flexible viewpiece into the grating, controlling it mentally and seeing the view from the motorized mini-camera superimposed over her normal field of vision.

It certainly looked safe enough. No telltale wires, no reed switches, or pressure plates...

Which is why this entrance is so dangerous to insert by, she mused.

She let her astral senses roam, retracting the endoscope probe as she did, and closed her eyes, casting her mind out tot he weave of the world.

There.

It was a tiny astral thread, invisible to the mundane eye, and almost equally invisible even to a sensitive mage observer. She followed it back, and it led to... her feet?

No, not her feet. Below her feet. She intensified the magical scanning, and suddenly the intricate pattern came into focus. It was a cunningly crafted web, blending with the magical swirls and eddies of the neighbourhood, which would have triggered had anyone carelessly opened the grating. She followed the thread up, up up... until she saw its source and gasped involuntarily.

It was a massive spider-spirit, dangling impossibly from a lamp-post. by a single gossamer strand. She noticed that other manholes were similarly webbed, and logic suggested that it fed as its prey were squeezing down the narrow tunnels, too preoccupied to notice it feeding on their souls.

"There is a problem, Con- Knight 2. Very nasty magical trap detected. Insertion may have to be delayed somewhat."

Demon with a Glass Hand 01-08-2004 02:13 PM

Conrad checked over his shoulder. There was no one about. It was very quiet.

Kneeling next to Angela he looked at the grating, the walls, all over above them, and nodded. "White Knight to White King, we have found our first obstacle. Shouldn't be anything to worry about. We'll check back with status in two. Over."

"How long to circumvent?" He asked her.

OOC: Why are you wondering if I'm still in this, when I've posted more recently then Ecurt and SS? And it's because we've been given nothing to do, while you three keep making your over lenghted post...

Forever Zero 01-08-2004 04:15 PM

OOC: I commented on this in the other thread, I figured you were still in it, but that the whole RP had slowed down, thus the new chapter. I also figure Ecurt and SS are still in it.

Mendel said, "What's the problem guys, we didn't notice anything going in the first time."

Dante 01-08-2004 04:22 PM

"Not too long. Just stay still - there's a spider spirit watching over the manholes in the vicinity. I'm going to distract it by blasting part of its web elsewhere, then get in during the confusion."

Saying so, she reached down and took hold of the grating, then turned to look down the street. Yes, that other manhole would do. She gathered the mana to her fingertips, took careful aim, and released it.

Above them, the spider spirit scrabbled into activity as it detected damage to part of its web. It didn't notice Angela and Conrad, shrouded from astral detection by the former, as she sliced the strand of astral webbing and slipped into the sewers. It skittered here and there, looking for prey, but finding none. After a while, it got tired of searching and retired to its overhead roost.

"White Knight to White King. Obstacle bypassed. Proceeding with mission."

Demon with a Glass Hand 01-08-2004 06:11 PM

(OOC: IHMN, I sense a little frustration, maybe? Well, *sticks out his tongue* phhhbbt! :p )

"Copy that, White King. White Knight 2 noticed a little surprise that the Gangers left us. Some sort of Astral Spider, if you can believe that. Proceeding to checkmate. Over."

Giving her a thumbs up, Conrad gave Angela another of his winning smiles. "My, now, Ms. White Knight. You are more uselful than you give yourself credit. Good job!"

Letting his eyes adjust to the gloom was easy, it was adjusting his sense of smell that would be difficult. Taking a minute to grow accustomed to the stench, he was able, with great effort, to tune it out. There was a smell that still lingered afterwards, though. A familiar smell. Sweat. Human sweat. It wasn't far away.

Pressing his back to the sewer walls, he moved forward ever so slowly. The sound of rushing water in the bowels of the sewer would mask their approach, but only so much.

Keeping his voice low, he nodded his head in the direction the smell was coming from. "We have some sentries that way. I could smell them a mile away. Keep a sharp lookout for more astral traps. I'll keep a watch out for any tripwires and other such physical traps, okay?"

"White Knight to White King." He spoke into the codec. "The pawns have entered the playing field. Alert the Bishops. This will be over very quickly. Out."

Forever Zero 01-08-2004 07:17 PM

"Gah, spider spirits?! They aren't related to the bugs are they?" Mendel panicked. However, he switched his talking line to the other group and said, "Umm, white bishop guys, the first team is about to flush out the gangers, so get ready, the're not going to be happy and they'll probably come your way."

The Street - Lone Star "Blockade"

The four Lone Star troopers stood by their vehicles, enough to block any pedestrian from trying to go down that road. They stood there, chuckling about what they could do with their nuyen, when suddenly four balck cars pulled up, and one man got out of the first car.

"Can I ask what is going on here?" The chinese man in a neat balck suit and dark sunglasses asked.

A Lone Star Troll looked him down and said, "This is a police blockade, heard about some illegal drug running going through here, so where set up to limit their paths in a chase."

The chinese man glared from behind his sunglasses and said, "Perhaps you could move for a bit so we could get to our destination sooner? It is very important that all haste is used, and I'm sure it would be worthwhile, perhaps ten-thousand nuyen worthwhile..." Four credsticks appeared in his hand.

The troll gasped, surprised at the high amount and glad to be payed off twice as much as that other guy who payed up front, sucker! He took the credsticks, walked back and spoke to the other Lone Star, and in seconds the four Lone Star vehicles were gone. The man got back in his vehicle, and soon the cars were advancing again. The chinese man spoke into his own ear codec, listened to the response, and nodded to the other man in the car, saying, "It has been confirmed, the data chips going to be sold off for a large sum of nuyen and were lost by someone in the fight. This will be an excellent find for us."

OOC: I couldn't let the whole thing go off flawlessly now could I... ;)
Also, since you are shadowrunners and mercenaries, unless either 1) someone survives to see you closely and flee or 2) you go blabbing who you are and what you've done across the city, you can probably kill some Triads and get away okay, but remember, every action has a reaction...

Covenant was leaning against a wall. He was bored. Bored to extremes.

He semi-wanted to hurt something, but it wasn't neccesary. After stretching his shoulders a bit he realized something.

He was REALLY bored.
